LUMIX DMC-GF1

THIS COULD BE MY NEW PARTY CAMERA LITTLE AND LITE VIA (ENGAGDET)
Much ado has been made of the year-old agreement between Panasonic and Olympus to manufacture interchangeable lenses, and for good reason: The lighter-and-smaller optics, dubbed Micro Four Thirds, have set off a virtual arms race to see who can outfit the high-quality lenses best. The latest shot fired: Panny’s new Lumix DMC-GF1, which combines DSLR quality and rangefinder20functionality, with interchangeable lenses as the final masterstroke. Of course, there are the usual solid Lumix specs—12.1 MP, 3200 ISO, 720p video, and HDMI out—but if you’re sold on Olympus aesthetics, you’ll be glad to know they’ve got virtually the same camera in a smart fifties-inspired styling. How to decide? That’s the beauty of the Micro Four Thirds system: You don’t have to. Keep the lenses, interchange the cameras.
Available early October, $899.95, including one of two lens kits, panasonic.com
