Introducing Treymani

The music industry has seen a variety of rap chicks. Some sexy with explicit lyrics, some provocative, some even hardcore; but always portrayed as eyecandy in a man’s world and the girlie girl in a woman’s’.

Ask yourself, has the “Major” music industry ever had an All – Out Lesbian Rapper or Artist period???? Not the “I kissed a girl and I liked it,” but a true “I love music and this is who I am. Not your “Pitbull in a skirt,” but my swag on max lesbian stud.

Treymani has always had the passion for music, but never looked at herself as an artist due to the rules of society. In the music industry, society has it that gay’s do not belong in front of the camera or album cover, but can work behind the scenes as a stylist or assistant.

Why is it we say the world isn’t ready for a gay artist, yet its okay if women are in videos kissing and feeling on one another?

Becoming a rapper came as a surprise. Originally Treymani was on the board for critiquing songs for her brothers and cousins rap group. She was hoping one day to fulfill her dream of being a celebrity personal assistant to the families’ rap group. However, other plans were destined. Playing around in the studio, Trey stepped into the booth and created magic. Words just came like flames from a fire. The group knew she needed to not be an assistant but an artist. From that point on, it was Treymani in the booth and Trey outside of it.

Treymani is that artist who is ready to break the cycle of exploitation of the GLBT lifestyle. With lyrics that punch like boxers and style to surely captivate an audience, Treymani is ready.

As any other upcoming artist, Treymani has had her share of disappointments and false promises; but the most devastating was with the incredible managing work by the late Sean Lasley, the former music editor of Memphis’ own StreetMasters Magazine. This artist was so close but yet so far. With the unexpected death of Sean, the mixed emotion of how the family friend/business colleague was murdered was a little discouraging. Yet in still a great soul never takes it spirits from the ones it loves. The death of Sean caused Treymani to go into OVERDRIVE!!!!

Life takes us all on journeys. It does not matter where we’ve been but where we are trying to go. Treymani’s mission is not only to make good music for all, but most importantly, to encourage society to judge by talent and determination and not by ones’ sexual orientation or preference.
