Born Khyran Shank in the month of September in Indianapolis, Indiana, this Libra began showing his skills as an emcee on the mic about two years ago. He wrote his first song in 2013 called “Welcome To The Intro”.
Knowing that branding is important, he chose to simply use his last name as his stage name.
Based on a conversation and personal request by his paternal Grandmother, in the Spring of of 2014 he came under the tutelage of his ‘uncle’ Sid “Uncle Jamz” Johnson, an award winning music industry veteran. Uncle Jamz contacted his production partner D. Hittz to produce a track for Shank and the end result is his first-ever single “Small Talk”. The song features vocals by Nafisah on the hooks.
A college graduate at the University of North Carolina in Charlotte December 2015 Shank is a was member of their award winning NCAA track team. His major in college is economics.
He rates his influences as Jay-Z, The Notorious B.I.G., Wu Tang Clan, J. Cole and Kendrick Lamar. He has a special fondness for East coast flavored hip-hop.
Shank’s favorite artists are: Jay-Z, Nas, Eminem, Ludacris, 2 Pac, Marvin Gaye, Aretha Franklin, Tara Moore, Mobb Deep, De La Soul and Babyface (whom by the way graduated from his high school alma matter in Indianapolis).
When he is not studying, running track or spitting lyrics, he enjoys reading and playing video games.
An ideal meal would be one of pasta with cornbread.
