MixMajor was born on January 4th 1985 in the Philadelphia area of Pennsylvania under the name William T. O’Brien III. He grew up in the suburbs right outside of Philadelphia in an Irish/American family. MixMajor is the youngest of four children. As a child his two older sisters and older brother always had a variety of music playing. This is where MixMajor’s love for music began. ” As long as I can remember I’ve always had a fasination with music, but not one particular genre, I loved it all ,” MixMajor said. It wasn’t untill the third grade of elementary school that he started playing an instrument. MixMajor went on to play the trombone and drums in his school band, district band, and Jazz band through middle school. At the age of twelve MixMajor started to delve into the world of Dj’ing. ” Being a Dj was very fun for me, I got to learn alot about music in this period of my life.” This opened alot of doors for MixMajor as well as curiosity for who creates this music and how. As the years went on he started becoming more and more interested in music production. It wasn’t untill 2008 that MixMajor became serious about making music professionally.” During one of the many talks with my father he said to me, ” Willy find something you absolutly love to do and you will never work a day in your life.” that made alot of sense, so I sat down and pondered what is it that I absolutly love? Music!!” From that day on MixMajor started saving all he could to get the equiptment he needed. ” My first studio setup was a computer, Roland MV-8800, Roland Fantom X8, M-Audio Projectmix, and a pair of active studio monitors.” ” I went out and bought all of that equiptment with absolutly no idea how to use it, some people thought I was crazy,” MixMajor said. MixMajor then dedicated all his time to learning how to not only use the equiptment properly but also learn anything and everything he could about music in general. ” I never had anyone to show me how to do the things I wanted to do so I had to teach myself just about everything, but I had a great time doing it!” Now in 2010 MixMajor works with alot of the Philadelphia underground Hip-Hop artists. With his unique sound Mixmajor is sure to make his mark in the music industry.
