Born in Oakland California in July of 1979 Better know as his stage name Mello Moncrease He has also gone by Freak Nick, Mr. Good Bar, is an American R&B Hip Hop Pop Artist, Producer and studio engineer
Mello Moncrease Has released five studio albums 1996 Freak You, 2006 self entitled Mello Moncrease, 2008 All I Need, 2009 Glass House V1,2011 Muziq. In 2012 he has been hard at work in the studio on a fifth album entitled Late Night Sessions do to be released in early 2013
1979-2006 Early life and career beginnings Mello Moncrease was born Ernest Clay the son of the late Isaac Clay
and Cheryl Low. Isaac was murdered two days before his son Ernest Clay (Mello Moncrease) was born. Mello was adopted at the age of three by Carolyn and Judge Moncrease. At the age of thirteen he decided that he was going to take on his adopted name. In junior high school he was asked to come up with a acronym that represented him and how he seen him self thus “R” for being Real “O” for optimistic “ME” for being me “LL” for loving Ladies “O” for optimistic because you can never be too optimistic, hence the name Romello. With a new name and out look on life, he started to sing in the school choir where he found him self at home. In 1995 he had started R&B group with two of his classmates call Three Way. The group disbanded in late 1996 with out ever releasing any of their recordings.
In 1996 Mello signed with CISM ENT. an Oakland CA underground label with ties to Rap A Lot Records. He was quickly embraced byFellow artist on the label do to his singing and writing abilities. While on CISM ENT Mello recorded over fifty songs he was also given a new nickname Freak Nick because of his reputation whit the ladies. In late 1996 the album Freak You was completed however never released. Mello would continue to record with CISM ENT up until 1999 when he split ties due to irreconcilable differences in regards to the direction of his artistry and music.
In 2000 after his adopted father had past away from cancer he up rutted and moved to Canton Ohio where he began anew starting his own label called Glass House ENT. of Ohio. Working part time as a engineer at Canton Music Center and full time as a cable installer, was when he came to the realization that no one was going to hand him a career in music, he had to do it him self .So in 2006 after saving enough money to pay for studio time he went in with blinders on and record the self entitled album Mello Moncrease. When the album was Released June of 2006 under his label G.H.E. of Ohio it sold two thousand copies and five hundred of the singles “Closer” and “She’s got a hold of me “.
In 2008 Mello’s friend DJ J Will told him about a way to get his music out to the masses under a major labels online distribution. With information in hand Mello Moncrease would release his next three albums under Island Deff Jam digital distribution.
As of 2014 Mello Moncrease signed a deal with Neal Reed world wide
and has been on the road promoting his new album Another late night.
