Whether it’s Pop, R&B, Neo-Soul, or Gospel, Kei~Mari does it all! This dynamic artist has been singing since the tender age of 3. Growing up in a family who was musically inclined on both sides (mother&father), Kei~Mari had no other choice but to sing. Singing in church choirs and school talent shows made Lakeshia want more out of her talent. She says, “I know it sounds cliche’ but music truly is my life. There is no way I can see my life without music. I eat, sleep and breathe music.”
Kei~Mari has studied solo artists who have influenced her from Whitney Houston & Anita Baker, Toni Braxton, to Brandy & Monica. She also studied group artist such as TLC & En Vogue to SWV & Xscape. Kei~Mari was influenced to start a group on more than one occasion. When these attempts were unsuccessful Kei~Mari didn’t give up. She was determined to venture out on her own. Kei~Mari states “There have been many artist who turned out to be one hit wonders but that’s not my plan. I never settle for mediocrity.”
Kei~Mari has found that writing her own original music has liberated her and has also been therapeutic through her trials and tribulations. That is why she knows that someone will be able to relate to her trial and tribulations. That is why she knows that someone will be able to relate to her artistic expression through song.”I want to make music that people live for rather than listen to only because they don’t have much to choose from. I don’t want to just fit in with the times. I want longevity…I want to be legendary.”
