On August 26th in the year of 1989 a star was born! Kenya “Kay S. Simmons, A R&B/funk/soul artist. She is the baby of 5 children, born and raised in Palm Bay, FL. Kay S. has been a Singer/songwriter since the age of 9 but has been a natural performer since she was 3 years old. In 2009 she became a mother of a beautiful baby boy by the name of Amari, in which who she pushes and strives for every single day. Kay S. was originally brought up in her church choir where she led the choir and developed her angelic, breath taking voice. She also has a long list of credentials in which she sung her way through. Kay S. has sung in candlelight Disney choir for 4 years straight through her high school days. She was also voted best female vocalist in Brevard County in 2008, she also played “Glinda” the good witch in the musical play “The Wiz” which landed her the award for the “Best female performance” in 2008. It does not stop there! Kay S. was so well known for her beautiful tone she was personally asked from her high school principle to sing the National Anthem at her HS graduation and following, for her college graduation she was asked by her college professor to bless the stage. Kay S. then took her gift to Broadway and auditioned for the character “Motor Mouth” in the classic Broadway musical “Hair Spray” in 2014 at the Straz Center in Tampa, FL. She landed that part! In the year of 2015, Kay S. and her family moved to Utah in hopes of expanding her music career. She definitely got what she was hoping for. Within 6 months of Kay S. living in the west coast, she was asked personally to sing the National Anthem at the Real Salt Lake game in Sandy, Utah at the Rio Tento Stadium in which she sang in- front of 20,000 people as it aired on Fox Sports. Kay S. had hundreds of supporters in which where so excited and inspired by her love for music and dedication to her dream. Following her big T.V appearance, Kay S. was chosen to compete in the “Salt City Super Star” competition in the hopes of getting the exposure she needs in the west coast. Although Kay S. ended that competition as a “Semi-finalist”, she gained a tremendous amount of fans and followers who have been awaiting her next performance and/or album. Kay S. is ready to be the next big star and nothing or nobody is getting in her way! She has that new sound and look the music industry is looking for, and she has all the work ethics to top it off. Kay S. is going to be the phenomenal artist to finally bring R&B back. “Thick woman can dance and sing too” says Kay S.
