| Bio | Jaz is an author, songwriter, actress, curvy model, published and performance poet & singer from Philly, Pa. She is honored to be used as a vessel of Christ, whether on or off the stage. Since 2004 her poetry has been published 30 times over in the local, international and world-wide literary market. Her poetry has appeared in numerous publications including Whirlwind, WRITE ON!, Struggle, Poetic Hours, WestWard Quarterly and APIARY. She has publications in 5 poetry anthologies and in 2 college literary magazines. Her most recent 2016 poetry publication is in UPenn’s online lit mag “PennFlux”. Jaz attended UArts as a “triple-threat” musical theater major. She is a singer and ASCAP member-songwriter. Jaz has performed in different cities at multiple venues such as The Philadelphia Clef Club, Freedom Theater, Enon Tabernacle, Ortleib’s Jazzhaus, Nuyorican Poets Cafe, Warmdaddy’s, The Five Spot and Sharon Baptist Church. She’s also been featured on 4 live internet radio shows “GTown Radio on the Rec”, Temple’s WRTI “The Bridge” hosted by J. Michael Harrison, The Lady Joy show on wrugradio.com and LyVette Bryd of Mother’s in Charge presents “Poet’s Speak Out Against Violence” show streamed live online. Her poetry has been featured on Tiffany Bacon’s radio show “Whispers In The Dark”. She also does a mean karaoke! Jaz is interested in the castaways and forgotten people of the world. Mankind’s storms and rainbows influence her writing. She is a woman who laughs often but also embraces her tears. Jaz is also co-founder along with Adriann “The Pen” Bautista of the all female poetry ensemble “Wings of Worth”. Jaz released her first poetry chapbook 12/8/2011 entitled “THE CARVING OUT OF A BUTTERFLY’S WINGS PART I” with a feature that same evening at Gtown’s Wired Beans “Coffee After Dark”. Jaz released the 2nd part of her successful poetry chapbook “THE CARVING OUT OF A BUTTERFLY’S WINGS PART II” on 4/19/2012 w/another co-feature that evening at “Coffee after Dark”. She was a cast member in Jan 2013’s premiere sold-out stageplay “He Calls Me Rib”. Jaz studied Music & Voice for 2 years at Community College of Philadelphia. She is a current Theater Studies major at Temple University. Jaz has been on the Dean’s list twice and maintains a 3.8 GPA with a membership in Golden Key International Honour Society. Jaz is the 2017 Honoree of Who’s Who Among Students in American Colleges & Universities. Jaz performed as a dramatic narrator and ensemble member in the staged musical “A Good Man” at her school Temple University. She also was Assistant to the Producer for a staged reading of Zooman and The Sign at Temple. In June 2017 she wrapped up the hit stage play “The LoverMan” where she played the character of Indy at The Arts Bank in Philadelphia. Jaz just released her first full-length paperback poetry book “Serenading Flowers: A Book of Dedications”. Jaz is a current member of “For Women Collective: An international performance ensemble created to honor the legacy of Nina Simone.” |
