Ain’t no love in the heart of the City, Or at least that’s what Upcoming Independent Artist Mike*G seems to think.  Mike Powell AKA Mike*G was born on May 13th in the late 80’s. Growing up in a single parent home where his mother and sister raised him he always had a strong intellect for music. His sister kept numerous amounts of CD’s in her collection from Hip-Hop, R&B to down south music. As a child he would always dance to his uncle’s records as he was a DJ coming up. During his years in school his main focus was fashion and music, If there was a stage with a camera and people around he was there performing, showing his many great talents. Furilla Squad, which was a group Michael was a part of while in high school recorded a couple of different songs with his first Mentor DOC who battled King Los on the One Luv DVD, DOC knew it was something special about the young talented rebel.  Michael found his passion through singing first it wasn’t until 2010 after noticing the many talents of J.Cole, Wale, and Drake he felt he could also be the next rising Independent Artist from Baltimore, MD. Writing and singing came natural to him; he didn’t have to try too hard for his voice to come alive in the studio. His first Mix tape TOSM1 which stands for The Other Side of Me was nothing but an experiment for him to find himself musically and his sound. Rapping on beats like Biggie Smalls Victory and Jay-Z’s Dead presidents he came with heartfelt lyrics and most importantly delivery. After releasing the first project everyone was surprised by his ability to be able put words together, and making them rhyme with simple metaphors. Immediately he was started working on his second project TOSM2: Audiobiography. This CD was very depressing and dark being that he was going through a rather rough time in his life. Having to raise 2 children, jobless with no income he took all his frustrations out on the microphone. This CD can be found on datpiff.com.  Audience’s  actually received this album really well being that he was able to set himself, apart from most of the Artist in the state of Baltimore as he expressed how he really felt about his relationship’s and the status of his life. Following that not even a year later he starting with his 3rd Project TOSM3: Diary of a Rebel and critics also received this as another stepping stone for the young MC to once again out do himself and that’s exactly what he did. Sampling a track from Michael Jackson never can Say Goodbye was the hit record that put Mike*G on an entire different level than everybody in the city of Baltimore. As they would say “Yo, Mike has that mainstream sound with his music, and he could possibly make it. He has shot almost 10 visuals independently which can found on youtube.com (giftedrebelmusic). Labels have reached out, but he chooses to stay independent because he wants creative control and he doesn’t want anyone to change the fulfilling sound of his music.
