Born in the Kitchener,Ontario, Canada, Darwin “DC” Ceres was surrounded by music. His father and brother both played the guitar, and his mother and one of his sisters played the piano. Everyone in his family sang, so his love for music began at a young age! DC was brought up listening to many genres of music, whether it was soul, jazz, country, rock, reggae, or R&B, he listened to them all. Known for his vocal power and range, Darwin brings a soulful and laid back style and flow to his music. His Hiphop flow has been described as old skool with a mix of the new, and he is happy with that comparison because Hiphop today wouldn’t be what it is today if it wasn’t for emcee’s like KRS-1, Run DMC, Eric B. and Rakim, Kurtis Blow, Kool Herc, Afrika Bambaataa, Slick Rick, the Fat boys, and many emcee’s before and after them bringing Hiphop to the point that it’s at now. That being said although being compared to other artist is a great honor, Darwin wants to come into his own and be known as Darwin Ceres aka DC, and be recognized by the music he is putting out to the world. Darwin has had the privilege of performing in Toronto, Detroit, New York, and Atlanta. He has also had the fortune of opening for artists such as Horace Brown in Kitchener,Ontario, Mobb Deep in Cambridge, Ontario, Fabolous in Brantford, Ontario, and for Akon in Kitchener, Ontario thanks to his good friend Fraction, in which Fraction and Darwin performed Fractions song “Brand New Day” which Darwin wrote and sung the hook. When it comes to songwriting, to date DC has written well over 100 songs. He likes to write songs that people can relate to. No matter what the topic is, he will write about it. Darwin has been blessed with a lot of opportunities from recording his own music to being featured on other artist tracks, and performing for events in his city. DC was also on Prologic’s mixtape called “Bada Boom”, which is available on I-tunes, in which he did the voices for some of the characters in the interludes and also wrote and sung all the vocals on the track Mysterious Lady(produced by Prologic). Currently DC has completed his first solo underground mixtape which is available for free download at http://darwinceres.bandcamp.com. Produced by Kitcheners local producer Prologic, this mix CD features some local artist such as Joga, Prologic, Shua James, Linkz, Fraction, Sinista, and from Michigan the Lyricists. “I am blessed, to be surrounded by artist who share the same love for music as I do, and feel privileged and honored to have them featured in my songs. We are a family.” The title of this CD is “Get to know Me”, and this title was decided as that’s exactly what Darwin wants people to do. Get to know him as his plans are to make a huge mark on the music industry. Through the years, Darwin has faced many doubters. He has had bad relationships, and had people disrespect his work, etc; but he continues praying, singing, songwriting and striving to accomplish his goals. What’s In the future for DC? The skies the limit and anything could happen. “I want people to not only enjoy my music, but to relate to it! I want my music to be known for years and years to come! After all is said and done, I hope that his music will be something that people will love and appreciate.”
