The student, Cullen Haviland, was from Temecula, California, reports WTKR.
There is no foul play expected at this time.
“We do not suspect foul play at this point,” Hampton Police Chief Terry Sult said. “However, it is early in the investigation and any information is subject to change.”
Haviland was pronounced dead in the library, reports Daily Press.
The university released the following statement:
The Hampton University community is extremely saddened by the death of one of our students, Cullen Haviland. We extend our deepest sympathy to Cullen’s family and friends for their profound loss. He was pronounced dead in the Hampton University Library. There is no foul play suspected at this time. The incident is being investigated by Hampton City Police and the Hampton University Police.
Cullen, 19, a second-year student who was classified as a senior because of his outstanding academic performance and credits earned through advanced placement, was a physics major from Temecula CA. At Hampton University, he was involved with organizations such as the National Society of Black Physicists and the Society of Physics Students, performing outreach to increase youth interest in the sciences.

The university has closed the Harvey Library until further notice.
Haviland’s body has been taken to the local medical examiner for an autopsy.
