Rabbis push to make kosher marijuana available

Orthodox Jews in New York may be able to obtain kosher marijuana in 2016

Companies in Colorado and elsewhere are working with rabbis to sell edible pot products that are certified kosher.

The Jewish Daily Forward reported Monday that Rabbi Moshe Elefant of the Orthodox Union’s kosher certification agency has held discussions with companies in an effort to obtain a kosher seal of approval for medical marijuana.

Because marijuana is a plant, it isn’t required to have a kosher certification. Pot as a food, drink or in capsule requires the certification for Orthodox patients.
