Touch ID had a higher-resolution scanner than other devices, but that all was needed to counter it was an equally high resolution photo of someone’s fingerprint, in this case taken from a glass surface. This scan was then used to create a thin latex sheet that served as the fake to access a user’s iPhone 5S.v The CCC has posted a video online showing the ‘defeat’, although it does not show the hackers copying another person’s fingerprint.
