The Academy founders DJ Drama, Don Cannon, and Trendsetter Sense will take over Atlanta September 9th & 10th with a series of inaugural events to launch their new DJ collective. Philadelphia natives Drama, Cannon and Sense believe The Academy venture allows them to give back to the music industry by providing leadership to DJs, artists, and up and coming industry executives. It also gives them a platform to encourage youth to be positive influences in their schools and community. “DJs are the ultimate influencers through music. We know the media can paint a negative picture when it comes to young people, but there are a lot of young people out there doing good things. We want to highlight these “positive influencers” and encourage them to continue doing good work,” Don Cannon explains.

On Tuesday Sept 9th, The Academy will host their first community service event at Martin Luther King Middle School in Atlanta, GA. The Academy Salutes Young Men of Influence will recognize and reward 25 young men who have shown exemplary service towards their community and school. “The Academy is excited about partnering with Martin Luther King Middle School and we fully support the work principal Paul Brown is doing. It was important for us to do our kick-off with a  school here in Atlanta because they have supported us from the beginning. back. Our mission has always been to give back. This is just the beginning,” says Trendsetter Sense.

I have visited King Middle School before and the kids showed a lot of love. By rewarding these kids it is an eye opener for others to realize that doing even small things can have a big impact on others. And that’s the mission of The Academy,” says DJ Drama.

Later that evening, The Academy partners with ASCAP and Hot 107.9 for a red carpet lights, camera, action extravaganza entitled Salute the Mic.Drama, Cannon and Sense built their careers by breaking some of raps biggest names, making Salute the Mic the perfect grand finale event for their Inaugural Takeover itinerary. The free event will be held at The Loft located at 1374 West Peachtree St NW, Atlanta, GA 30309 and features hip-hop’s hottest rated next artists including August Alsina, Migos, Yo Gotti, Young Dro and the OMG Girlz. Salute the Mic will be hosted by Jermaine Dupri.
