Book Review of Small Business, Big Vision

Small Business, Big Vision by Brothers Adam Toren and Matthew Toren is an excellent book for inspiring entrepreneurs, current entrepreneurs or business consultants. The book consists of eight chapters with the first chapter discussing the importance of having a big vision. Chapter two discusses rethinking the business plan. One that is primarily for yourself and a more extensive one which investors would expect.

The book explains when a business may call for investors vs collaborators. Would it be best for you to get money from someone whom will have say in your business or would it be better to form an advisory board instead. They really go into detail and teach you how to go about doing so.

Chapter four goes into depth about the good, the bad, and the alternatives to hiring employees. You read about how outsourcing is not only sending jobs to other countries, but how outsourcing workers in your business can be cost effective when starting out.

Chapters five express the value of good marketing in your business. How you should have laser-sighted marketing through social media. They break down steps to proper marketing success with tips and tools you can use on all the social media networks.

In chapters six and seven they talk about turning what you know and becoming an expert in that area. They really give you good ways to take what you know and they share with you options to expand your brand and how to become a socially responsible entrepreneur. The last chapter is for current business owners that feel that they’re ready to give up on their business. They give tips on how to turn your business around.

Overall, I would recommend this book to anyone starting a business. It is an easy read and the terminology used is not over your head. The best feature of the book is that after each chapter, the authors have selected an entrepreneur that has done well with what had been discussed in that chapter and they share their personal story. This is a must read!
