Many may view Jermaine Dupri as just a musical artist, but after his Keynote speech on February 13, 2012 for SMWNYC we learned we could not be more wrong. Throughout the speech Jermaine made it a point to state that although music is his first passion, he also feeds off the energy produced through conversation.

Conversation, direct communication on social platforms, and getting rid of the middleman were some of the primordial catalysts that led to the creation of a personal blog that has now turned into Global 14.

Global 14 is a social networking platform that like Jermaine explained is “all the networks in one”. Now to the young adult generation this means that it is the perfect combination of mostly Facebook and Twitter’s best traits. The beauty of Global 14 is that it does take on a very interactive role it embraces a generation that is filled with ideas they are willing to share, as long as they have the medium to do so. With Global 14 not only are you being provided with a perfect platform to share your ideas, you are also able to engage in conversation with who ever may come in contact with it.

The success of Global 14 is a direct result of Mr. Dupri’s clear understanding of what the general public wants and how essential it is to have a personal touch incorporated into social networks. As a young adult you are only fascinated with the intricacies of a social network for so long, once you have gotten the hang of it what you really want is to be able to use it in a productive way. Global 14 tackles the user’s want for direct communication by providing an environment that encourages asking questions and is active in responding to them. Jermaine Dupri and Adam Lavelle, Chief Strategy Officer at iCrossing, both acknowledge that what sets G14 apart from other social networking sites is the active conversation being held by the user and the provider, not just between users.
Ultimately, as a young adult you voice your opinion on Facebook and Twitter and expect to be heard and acknowledged. Now Global 14 has a hand up on other social networks in that its basis is conversation, constant conversation that means each and every comment is important. Global 14’s particular conversation platform is appropriate and essential to Jermaine Dupri’s proactive approach for finding new talent. Global 14, as described by the panel, offers you an opportunity to interact, find a niche, and encounter endless opportunities.
Global 14 also offers the advantage that it is Jermaine Dupri leading the cause. He is probably G14’s most active user and engages in conversations as often as anyone else on the site. He had a vision that he put into action and explained in the panel that it was not about money or the benefits the site might reap in the future. He expanded on the fact that for something to be truly successful and worthwhile you have to enter it because your heart is in it, not for monetary gain, a message that resonates strongly with a younger more liberal demographic.
