MISTER BERRY GORDY- A LEGEND

YESTERDAY I GOT A CALL FROM MISTER GORDY LETTING ME KNOW HE SAW MY MIXTAPE, HERD WHAT I WAS DOING AND HE LIKED MY THINKING PROCESS.THAT WAS ONE OF THE HIGHLIGHTS OF MY LIFE THUS FAR BECAUSE I NEVER THOUGHT ABOUT HIM SEEING THIS.THE ONE PART HE WAS CONCERNED WITH WAS ME USING HIS PICTURE ON THE COVER WITH OUT HIS PERMISSION,I TOTALLY UNDERSTAND AND I TOLD HIM I WAS IN NO WAY TRYING TO HURT WHAT HE BUILT OR GIVE HIS LEGACY A BAD NAME. IM WRITING THIS BLOG FROM MY ROOM IN THE DETROIT WHERE I JUST LEFT HITSVILLE U.S.A ,I TOOK A TOUR OF THE MUSEUM,SAW A VIDEO OF THE HISTORY, READ ALL THE PLAQUES AND LOOKED AT ALL THE PICTURES.IF YOU KNOW ME YOU KNOW MY MIND IS GOIN 100 MILES AND HOUR NOW,SO MANY THINGS I LEARNED AND SO MANY OF MY QUESTIONS ANSWERED IN THIS QUICK WALK THRU.THE ONE QUESTION I’VE BEEN ASKING MY SELF IS WHY HAS’NT ANYONE ELSE DONE WHAT BERRY DID AND THE ANSWER IS THIS, MOTOWN WAS BUILT ON PURE LOVE FOR THE MUSIC AND EVERYBODY BELIEVING IN BERRYS DREAM.TODAY ITS HARD TO FIND 5 PEOPLE THAT WANNA LOOK IN THE SAME DIRECTION, PEOPLE DONT CARE WHAT THEY DO LONG AS THEY GET PAID.I TOTALLY UNDERSTAND GETTING THAT CHECK BUT I LEARNED FROM THE MOVIE “SOCIAL NETWORK” AND SEEING THIS TODAY THAT MOVEMENTS LIVE OFF SOMETHING ELSE.I LIVE TO HAVE THAT MOVEMENT AND IM NOT GONNA STOP TILL I GET IT,IN CLOSING I TOLD MISTER GORDY THAT I FEEL I HAVE A RESPONSIBILITY TO LET THE 16 AND UP KNOW WHAT HE AND OTHERS LIKE HIM DID FOR THIS THING I LOVE CALLED THE MUSIC BUSINESS.

  6. This was a great post JD… In this you really let us inside your mind and thoughts again. Letting us know that even a person with all the fame you have, still looks up to someone and is still striving and learning more. I know that right now the way you are feeling is something like how I was feeling the day I got to meet you in person and you talked to me about the things I have been doing. As long as you keep doing the things you are doing, you will educate the 16 and up on what Berry Gordy and others like him did for the music business. Then in a few years someone will be letting the next generation know the great things you have done for the music business…

    LIFERS LEGGGOOOO!!!

  7. hey JD . I don’t have to much to say but that i’m a huge LIFERSFAN I love you all & completly respect everything you all do. You’re truely living the life & I hope to meet you all one day 😀

  8. Glad you were able to take something from your walk through Motown history experience, thats what it is all about gaining that ultimate inspiration. Everything in life has a purpose, once you put something into the universe its solely up to you to take those necessary steps to making it golden. You take what you’ve learned from something, you speak and showcase your genuine truth about it and others will then gain inspiration from it. I’d be lying if I said that money isn’t a major factor because it is; its apart of our lively hood but people fail to realize is that at the end of the day that although we work for money, you’ve got to have a genuine love for what you do otherwise you’ll just become a slave to that $ you’re working for.

I agree with you I think why Berry was so successful at what he’s done for musical history is because of that ‘pure love’ as you said. I think him actually believing in what he was doing played a major factor as well. He had a dream and a vision he didn’t just let that dream and vision manifest within himself, because had that belief he went very far. When you genuinely believe in whatever it is people take notice of it they gain inspiration from it and they in return ultimately believe in your movement. Everyone has a story to tell and Berry told his beautifully throughtout his reigning era and it has left a lasting impression in musical history.

  9. PS: No one thinks exactly the same, but where two or more gather there is fellowship/simular thoughts on the same page.

  10. Remembering what started it all and what brings us all here, the love of it.
    The love of the music.
And never forgetting to respect those who came before us, took risks, opened doors and made it possible.
Thanks for the post, am so glad I started my day by reading this!!

  11. That’s wasup General!!! I no you gone create the new Motown! The #Lifers are behind you, we ready! I like that you wanna make us aware of the legacy, I always say that any and everybody especially if they wanna be in the game, NEEDS to KNOW there history!! 12. Your the BEST JD ..

  13. and thats why we follow u GENERAL….Ur LIFERs gotchu….WE ARE THE MOVEMENT!!!!

  14. I’m So glad you got this opportunity (placed in your face). Cause I know you could have went there anytime before, but the thing is, now is the time JD. See the foundation that you laid for THE VISION that’s on the inside of you. Berry Gordy did just that, creating the Legendary Motown Records…Now it’s your turn to PULL out of you what’s being lying dormant for the past few years. You have 1 song of the decade that the people have heard, but I’m convinced that it’s more than that on the inside of you. They say you can only bring out what’s in you…SO WHAT R U WAITING FOR? See U are gifted at finding the “foolish” things (what people say will never work, never make it, never be a star) and you mold/shape/pull out/push/force it out of that “foolish thing” and then we get #1 hits.

WE WON’T STOP REPPIN #SOSODEF I BEEN ROLLING FOR 18YRS STRONG…SOON APPROACHING THAT 20YR MARK..AND YOU GOING INTO THAT YEAR WITH THE WIND AT YO BACK…#NOCHECK BUT #HEART CAUSE I BELIEVE! LEGGOOO

  15. YOOO JD!!! That is awesome man!!! I’m glad and happy that you got a holler from Berry Gordy!!! Like I said on twitter, just proof positive that you’re on the right track homie!!! Keep up the great work and others will surely follow!!!

And for those that don’t know about Motown and/or Berry Gordy, imma slap your parents and then you!!! LOL j/k But seriously…learn your music history asap if you’re gonna follow JD and be a lifer!!! #BIEM

  16. You ever read something and it touch you to the point you know EXACTLY how the person writing it feels? I really like this post, it shows more of the person you are and your goals. We watch the LTL episodes and it gives us insight to you and your life.

But this post is some honest shit, and shows you are no different from the rest of us LIFERS.
    I appreciate you for that!

  17. NICE, VERY NICE!!!!

  18. JD i agree with you on all of it yes people do thrive to get in the business now for the money and fame mostly and not because they truly love the art of the music that they’re doing, but really can you blaim them? in today’s society all we see on tv is rappers with hugh chains fast cars and alot of bitches and on top of that it’s what they mostly talk about including actors, athletes you name it there always shown on tv living a glamorous life so when you have millions of people trying to get into that business because of the life they see these artist live on tv and it’s all they hear about then it would only make sense that they would try and fulfill that lifestyle for themselves… wouldn’t it? But on the other hand their are still people out their that do have love for making music and truly do have a passion for it and wake up and sleep to it everyday hoping to one day get noticed, me personally i cant lie the money is one of the main reasons why i do thrive to get in the business but i also grew up on hip hop back in the golden age as a young kid loving to rap idolizing the greats you know like the BIG’s the Pac’s the Dre’s the Nas’s etc… and this was before i even knew what these artist were making in terms of income i just loved to rap those artist made me want to rap because i loved their music so much, it inspired me to make my own… Emniem said it best “a normal life is boring”, entertainers get to travel all arond the world and don’t live a normal life as someone who works a 9 to 5 does im sure you can concur with all the “Living the Life” videos you make i mean JD you’re rich do you even still have dreams? you’re already a legendary producer in the rap game you’re a CEO of your own label and you banged Janet what else can someone like you want? people like us dream and want to go in the direction of success i think that’s what everyone’s dream and direction is success… its what Berrys dream was and im sure its what your dream was and still is, that being said JD check us out lol http://www.themusichutch.com/profile.php?uid=36882

  19. the record you did with Clinton Sparks & Class is turning out to be the biggest song of the night…consecutively. I’m watching the reaction and the shit is bringing down the house the same way ‘Let the Bass Kick’ did. You’ve got this game on lock DJ/JD

  20. You don’t know where you’re going til you know where you’re from.

No matter how much success JD has or had, he’ll reach the top of the moutain when he’s reminded while searching through his past. And by past I’m talking about music.
I’m not saying he’s not paying dues, what I’m saying is that just like someone digging for his ancestors, learning his family’s life.

JD will be empowered and eventually see the light once he learns about his entire music family.
