  12. I HAVE BEEN WAITING FOR THIS RIGHT HERE. Lifers let me say this, since I have been down with this So So Def movement…there has been nothing I seen a BLOGGER say that when the time was right, or necessary, JD didn’t have something to say. YOU NEVER HAVE TO BELIEVE A BLOGGER, cause HE WILL LET YOU KNOW.

BUT THIS IS WHAT MUSIC IS MISSING. YOU WANT TO KNOW WHY USHER WENT DIAMOND, BECAUSE PEOPLE AT LEAST “THOUGHT” THE CONFESSION STORY WAS HIS. They were so excited that a guy was seemingly telling you the WHOLE truth about His life. AND THAT WAS REAL TO US. SO REAL IN FACT THAT USHER BECAME THE ARTIST OF THE DECADE, SO REAL THAT PEOPLE STILL TALKING BOUT THE ALBUM, SO REAL, THAT PEOPLE STILL WANT HIM AND CHILLI BACK TOGETHER…Bow Wow has a song on his upcoming Mixtape called “Im Going Outta My Mind” he put it on youtube, it’s over 110K listens…People are getting back to what’s real, and people with MANUFACTURED IMAGES is not what real music lovers are BUYING…but Dondria vs Phatfffat, This “i think I’m berry gordY” mixtape, Johnta LSR, heck R. Kelly even back to his element THAT’S WHAT WE WANT.

FOR ANY LIFER WHO HASN’T GOTTEN DOWN WITH REAL MUSIC & BOUGHT THAT DONDRIA VS PHATFFFAT YET, YOU BETTA CHECK UR R/B CARD, CAUSE YOU LOSING…

  13. This is my theme song for the rest of my year!

  32. Jd Johnta I luv this song man keep it coming jd keep bringing it harder n harder bruh. Jonhta Like the part when u say bith the way u say all seem to funny

  33. The song is cool, sounds like JD got a lot on his mind…. What’s up with the Dondria numbers? Most of what JD was saying in the song I agree with, the music business is fucked up but it has always been. Johnta talking about guys in Atlanta riding around in cars that are rented but once again its because most people are followers and not leaders, and some people that are in leadership roles are not true leaders.

JD you could have signed every star that was in the Ritz last night… But you didn’t….. LEADERSHIP.. If all of Atlanta was under you, then you would have been the ultimate quality control, but as you turned them down and they went around you, you lost more and more power and now them same people are more powerful then you.

These young people out here don’t respect the past and past accomplishments and that is what is sad. This new generation only knows what you did last and that is sad. I respect the accomplishments of the young brother from college park but I am watching more closer NOW…. Because this is YOUR defining moment! So what are you going to do? Give up like a bitch and say fuck it, OR get your ass in the studio and make some top 10 records…. Like you said a HIT record is like poison IVY… It can’t be stopped. If you stop now the public will remember you just as much as we remember C&C music factory…

One other thing, about the passpart shit, Johnta I’m happy you are rich bro but get the fuck over it. The white man that give you that publishing check has more money then you. When are we going to get to the point where we don’t have to show and tell the world every dollar we got? That’s where them rented cars are coming from. Is it because we don’t value ourselves and need to have items to make up our self worth? I’m just trying to figure this out. I’m happy you went to Sweden bro, I’ve been there too… So what..

    SPOCK

  34. Jd this is the TRUTH!!!!! and Johnta is channeling his inner R Kelly lol………..very nice

  35. cool! Johnta the talking part was a lil corney, Jd”s flow is sick , like you finaly addres Sadrahoes…lol

  36. Spock…

Relax man its not that serious. The passport statement was too address those who talk big game but haven’t done much…if anything. Meaning they talk the talk but haven’t put in the work to be great. For 15 years I’ve dedicated myself to the pen so if I wanna pop shit on a mixtape about my travels & the expansion of my cultural knowledge, then I would say that I’ve earned that right. Really its meant as a push to accept that there is a bigger world beyond our block, our neighborhood, our country. If you’ve travelled to Sweden or anywhere else that’s truly abroad then this doesn’t apply to you does it? But Americans tend to view the world with a very limited scope. That is to say if its not in America or close to its borders then its not worthy of mention.

The whole basis of the earlier sentiments prior to getting to the passport thing was to address the critique of those who despise another’s success while not truly achieving greatness in their own right. Nowadays it seems people give more of their energy to watching someone else’s life & movements instead of focusing on what will cement their name in history. This is not just limited to music but in music specifically you have people with light resume’s weighing in on the resume’s of undeniably accomplished careers. Its my opinion that too often you have cats that have yet to crack the top 10 (much less reach #1) on ANY chart but want to give a break down of why people who have repeatedly reached those positions may not currently be living up to the status of what the public deems acceptable. Its like the niggaz you hear on the block that had mad handles back in the day but never reached the NBA but wanna tell Shaq who is a champion how he ain’t got it anymore. The whole song is speaking on how we focus too much on other’s instead of dedicating that same intensity to our own movement.

  37. thanks for the statemant johnta! cant wait for your album………..!!!

  38. @swats2812

I hear what you are saying but when is the “I made it so until you make it to my level I’m not going to listen to you going to stop?” That is some straight nigga shit there. Maybe that dude that didn’t make it to the NBA DOES have some valuable information. My father always told me you can learn a lot from a Dummy. The best ideas in the music business come from people that are NOT in the business. When I use to work radio in smaller markets I use to go and talk to the PD and tell them my vision for the group and the record, one thing that I noticed is that the PD use to always walk me out of my car after the meeting. When I use to drive my Honda Civic to the meeting I would not even get one spin, when I started driving my Cadillac to these meetings I would get a few more spins, then one time I drove my homeboys Bentley and before I could get out the city that song was playing!! This is a SAD Reality people care more about what you got and what you have accomplished then what ideas that you have; but ideas are the cornerstone to all of this!! Black people have less money, education and ownership then any other race in this country but the people that are in roles which allow them to reach millions are talking about wearing Tom Ford and buying shit to make somebody else rich. It’s a whole lot easier to say “yo that nigga hatin because I am successful” then to look yourself in the mirror.

Every dollar I spend I know who is benefiting from my purchase. I have not got gas from BP since the spill. I purchased the Dondria record for one reason and that was to support JD. If she came out with the same CD working with someone else I wouldn’t have purchased it. Where a person is now has nothing to do with where he is going, and who is in the lead now does not determine who will win the race. Its always them little dudes you see along the way that turn out to be the BIG dudes later in life.

    Retract of statement:
The Monica Record IS a #1 record and JD produced it that so the movement continues!!!

  39. I am 15 and i couldnt agree with this song more.

PS I think your still the stuff because if it were not for you then there would be not them.

I cant wait to put this on my ipod!

  40. To me when I hear the beat come on, it automatically takes me to a “place” where being REAL is the only thing you can do on the track. When I hear JD say “i don’t deserve to be here” it broke my heart…but I had to remember that right then he was speaking out of his feelings..and he speaking that THE VISION HE HAS FOR THIS INDUSTRY is NO WhERE near where he thought it would be. As in why am I here? But the bottom line is, we do need LEADERS in the business who can DEMAND a certain level from the new artist coming in. It’s like a Father developing a business, & he makes it very profitable, he teaches his son the way of the business…the son job is to continue with what his father developed but EVOLVE it to the next level, to his generation.

I’ll say it again, having JD back focusing on the VISION he began So So Def, vs Def Jam, Virgin, Columbia there vision, now he can bring out what he deems to be great music. I would rather live one life doing what I was born to do, than do a 1000 different things that did not IMPACT people in a great way. Cause what I was born to do, touches way more…and forgetting who I am would almost be impossible.

  41. Spock…

I do agree with your father’s statement. But I agree with it from the aspect of you can learn what not to do from watching a dummy. Also you’re right about a great idea being great regardless of who it comes from. I’m speaking more to the part of our society that has NO ideas & is making zero moves speaking on anyone who is having or has had success. Its like Hova said on “Reminder”…”what the hell have ya’ll done to even have an opinion on what I’ve been doing…?” I never knock anyone who goes for theirs in ANY field of life. But after a while talk about what it takes to be successful has to turned to the person saying it. As you put it “look in the mirror”. That dude that didn’t make it to the NBA could have good information and advice you’re right. But what he is not is a total authority because at the end of the day he’s speaking about a level that he himself knows nothing about & until he reaches it he will never fully know that feel of it.

If I may use myself as an example. I can have a million ideas on artistry and what type of album each significant artist should be making. But until I become a successful artist in my own right I’ll never see if from their view. I can say how I’m one of the hottest cats around but until I have the numbers & notoriety as the others its unproven. Make sense??

  42. You know…..hats off to JD for persevering through the trials and tribulations of the industry….whenever you try to trendset and be against the grain, it’s hard as hell to be recognized for your true talents. Talent has gotten to a point where it’s no longer talent…it’s status quo. And if you’re not meeting it, they’re quick to boot you out. If you all read JD’s book, it’s a roller coaster ride of emotion mixed with success and downfalls…..JD, I decided to become a part of this movement because I only associate myself with greatness. And greatness is reflected in the lives you touch, not in the bullshit that you’ve accumulated by being a tool….more so, the nonsense you’ve accumulated conforming to others’ opinions of you. My hat off to Jermaine, and as long as there’s a So So Def, there’ll be an STLsmooth…..shout out to the real “lifers” who truly understand the meaning of the term…lifer is a JD groupie, it’s allowing the movement JD is on to inspire you to achieve your own greatness and live the best life you can….live, laugh, love……I’m gone

  43. Correction….”lifer” is NOT a JD groupie!

  44. Loved it, Johnta is a mess bout that dont count sound like something Inty would say!

  45. lovin this JD!! Johnta u r a fool & I Love it!!! LLLLEEEEEGGGGOOO!!!

  46. One of the Lifers said “staying up has it’s benefits” and I highly agree on that. After listening to some of the songs off “I Think I’m Berry Gordy Mixtape” I feel like JD should def. come back from behind the scenes and do his muthafucking thing!!! In addition, after being exposed to the OCEAN flow/swagg (whatever you want to call it) I just had to jump on the bandwagon. I’m on that Ocean Shit Bitch!!! So basically what I’m trying to state is the mixtape is ridiculous and keep doing your thing JD!!!

  47. That word CHANGE is very POWERFUL…yall forgot that huh??? when all those millions of plp came out when the president was elected yall thought the music industry was left out of that CHANGE.. no it wasnt..CHANGE is hard to do and not easy.. ALL these industry folks that had all the power to change things will no longer have the power..just because they used it for the wrong things. And i say good for dey a$$ because if they would of reached out to all those really great talented plp the doors could keep revolving for us..but they f*ucked it up..now dey found away to stop the money flow for us..called DOWNLOAD or Bootleg… BUT YOU KNOW WHAT I GIVE CREDIT TO P.DIDDY BCUZ HE TRIED!!@SPOCK@MARGO@SWATS making good points..KEEP THIS BLOG REAL!!!

  48. @swats2812 Get my number from JD and call me…. We can then finish this debate… LOL I get your point but I still don’t agree with you.

  49. Never thought I’d hear much less see the day when Christopher Cross’ timeless song “Sailing” would be sampled for Hip Hop. Kudos on pulling that off. And it can’t be coincidence that I my rant on twitter earlier today matches what you say. You’ve got issues with folk on your level and I’ve got issues with people on mine. I sometimes hate to even mention I have a blog cause the Gossip bloggers done fucked shit up on one level for entertainment bloggers like me. But the reality is as you said sex, gossip, and BS sells. And prolly more than half of the readers here will give even more traffic to Sandra, MediaTakeOut, Concrete Loop cause people are nosy that way. Sadder still, as much as I preach to black hollywood about how to work TOGETHER to get better coverage of black entertainers it falls on deaf ears. It’s all about the numbers, how many followers, how much traffic. If I complain, I’m a hater! So I’ll keep doing what I do. I never started blogging for the money or traffic, but to support what I love a lot…black movies, celebs, music, and culture. And honestly, the longer I stay in lala land, going back home to NC for good sometimes looks real promising. This entertainment game was fun, but my heart ain’t in it like it was in 2002. So sailing….take me away…soon I will be free.

  50. JD WHAT IF I TOLD YOU THIS SONG TOUCHED ME AND BOY CAUSE THIS HOW WE FEEL EVERYDAY WE WAKE UP. HE GOT A GIFT J.D. CAN U TAKE THAT STEP AND CHECK HIM OUT IM A lifAH!!!
