  2. If Jermaine does read these comments, I’d be shocked. If Ballajb reads this, I’ll hire you. LOL! Sorority Records>So So Def or it least it will be by the time I lose another 20lbs. Have a good day ya’ll.

  3. THIS VIDEO IS F*king fabulous in the truth it reveals! And yep I’m post it in on Hollywood As I Live & Work! And folk wonder why I don’t get all caught in the fashion. This video is a great explanation! I ain’t saying those in power in the fashion industry are racist, but they ain’t messing with no black divas. And if SHE’s got too much ass imagine, what would a chick like me, blessed with ass and thighs, do in that industry? Anyway, it is what it is. I wish her much success in her endeavor despite the obstacles.

  4. Quite a few women in my family are 5’10+ and have considered/considering a career in modeling, this video is on point. They are famous for saying ‘I’ts not the look we’re going for’, but your white counterpart comes in w/the same stats and they got the job. That wrong and u always gotta be prepared to move on 2 the next.

  5. WOW!!! I agree with Hollywoodlvwork. I really enjoyed this vid alot. So interesting and informative about blacks in the modeling world. Did they say they needed…”A white girl dipped in chocolate”. LMAO! I think me and you (Jermaine Dupri) should start our own model talent agency for ethnic girls only. Black is simply beautiful because it comes in all shapes, sizes, and colors.

  6. Seem the more things change, the more the stay the same.

I watched a documentary about 10 years ago discussing the same thing but they had secret recording conversations of fashion executives stating their disdain for black models and Africa because of all the blacks in it.

I grew up in the generation of Naomi and Tyra. It was amazing to see them in magazines and on runways because there were hardly or no black models to look up too.

It seems every ten years, the fashion industry chooses a few models and they become the one or two ‘it’ girls in the entire fashion industry.

Beverly Johnson in the 70s, Iman and Beverly Peele in the 80s, Naomi and Tyra in the 90s, Alek Wek in ’00, etc.

This really make you think about the choices you make when spending your money on fashion. Money is power folks.

Vera Wang will only hire majority white and a few Asian models for her shows.

DSquared and Heatherette are just the few white designers that hire black and other ethnic models.

‘A white girl dipped in chocolate’………..that sounds pretty racist to me.

  7. “yall always asking where the black girls” do you think its not a legit question? hmmm

  8. black women have been mistreated since the beginning of time. We are the one’s who are constantly overlooked in society and we get paid less for doing the same job as white women. When “our” men that we have stood by through tough times finally “make it” how do they repay us? They go out and find a white, asian or latina woman to parade around with. We as black women have to stick together, we have to learn to encourage each other. Also, our men have to learn to appreciate us. JD, I think you should come up with some type of campaign that recognizes beautiful black women…we are all not a size 0,1, and 2 but we deserve some shine time of our own. I am a beautiful, black woman with an hour glass figure and proud of it…36-24-40! If you do decide to do something I am willing to help in anyway I can.

  9. Very interesting. Thanks for sharing!

  10. thanx for the video..it really teased me about the marketing plan i have for your line..JD… question????Jermaine Dupri did you ever start a So So Def film… Making of a mogul..documentary has to be done under that.. #team dondria is the way to go…

  11. wow. That was very interesting and informative. I think she’s beautiful but dang he is really getting on her for her hips? and wow at that guy saying black girls have a “womanly” figure. Well damn are we supposed to look like men? lol oh and Great features = white features? some analogy… smh *sips water* Renee looks like Zoe Saldaña.

  12. i’m not suprised after watching this video. the fashion/modeling industry is run by whites and the majority of its’ consumers are whites. What do you expect? what we , as minorities, need to do is organize and start our own fashion labels. Instead of encouraging our people to buy prada, gucci, coach, etc why dont we encourage them to become top tier designers in their own right? Why can’t we make clothes that rival brands like gucci and prada? Those brands make it clear that they don’t want us. It bothers me to see african women put themselves through all that for basically nothing. We shoud create for self instead of chasing after the chance to be “America’s Top Model”. It’s appalling and disrespectful to our ONCE proud race. (I could go on for days, but i’ll stop right here.)
