  1. I agree with everything u discussed on down to Sandra “biker boy lovin” Bullock! lol It’s f*cked up that gr8 RnB music isn’t showed love 2day. I think it’s do to so many young artist & fans souped up on the myth of makin music is a piece of cake. They don’t believe that it takes time, money, PR & promos, meetings and a list of other sh*t to turn out GREAT #1 RnB! I know it does take a village to not only raise a child, but to create AN ARTIST that will have staying power. Whitney, Luther, Mariah, Janet and so many others were not built by 1 but by many; especially behind the scenes – 2day that’s not respected or appreciated. Dondria will face challenges that most upcoming artist b4 her never encountered, but she’ll make a blueprint for thoz that come after her. Her true fans will SUPPORT her & buy her album on August 17th, and thoz that don’t are not TRUE fans in the 1st place. I do think a contest to give away a ticket on Twitter, Myspace & Facebook to Dondria/Monica/Trey’s show would BOOST sales for her upcoming album, and encourage ppl to buy it. I will be getting mine and wish her much SUCCESS now & always =)

  2. I’d like to know when RnB was downgraded in the industry as well Jermaine!!! It would definitely explain why a lot of RnB artists aren’t getting the same airplay as everyone else. Its like they don’t respect the fact that they go through the same process of making a good cohesive album just like all the other genres. It also explains why Monica wasn’t picked for the RnB categories at the BET awards this year with that bangin album of hers. smdh I’m from the good old days when RnB music from the 70s n 80s ruled the radio. They didn’t hafta crossover like today’s RnB music to to do the same thing. It was nice seeing the Essence Music Festival recognize RnB artists the way they did, but we need everyone else to do the same. I need my RnB folks back like Jaheim, Joe, etc. I WILL be buying Dondria’s album because I like what I heard which is a rarity for me when it comes to new artists in this day and age of gimmick music and I’ll be promoting it with my fb folks. They know I don’t advertise just for anyone. Also, with DC radio (WPGC 95.5) playing You’re The One as much as they do, she’ll do well in this area…its the radio heads like the folks in NYC that have me wondering how she’ll fair there with their biased selves.

  3. real TALK !!! I never looked at it the way yall are.. i feel offended that they are treating R&B like its worthless….. and thats all ima say bout that! oh and i agree with the bad guy thing.. chicks know already what comes with that life style and if they say they dont they are lying

  4. HAPPY B-DAY….WHITE GUY (JOHNNY)!!!!

AS FOR GR8 r&b…IT SEEMS LIKE ARTIST WANT TO BE RAPPERS, THEY DON’T WANT THAT GR8 R&B, THEY WANT SONG THAT BUMP IN THE CLUBS!!! NO SLOW JAMS, NO BABY MAKING MUSIC..JUST MUSIC THAT WILL MAKE U DANCE…

  5. To be honest i do not know why R&B isn’t respected anymore, maybe it has something 2 do w/changin times and real ‘love & romance is out the door. But if we want it to count we have build a movement behind it.

Of course you know everything that comes w/being with a “biker/bad dude”, but you try 2 avoid having that shit out in public and lookin like an ass. When the smoke clears they be back 2gether

AS Of Today(Thursday) i’m heading back to Cleveland from ATL

  7. Neneh, Who says that real love and romance is out the door? That is not true and Iknow a lot of people will agree with me. Your relationship is what you make it.. If you want love and romance then you have to give it to get it. Sometimes we (men or women) may have to take the first step in showing their partner ways they like to be romanced, and if they love you then you should be set. Ok let me move on cause this is a whole other topic.
And yes I do think Sandra Bullock knew that Jessie was or may have been a bad boy. But I’m sure she did not know he was a cheater. Even if it cross your mind you still think that once that person says they love you that what ever you thought they were doing has stopped. People can cover up their bad ways just to get in.
I did not know that R&B was treated like that. But you are right when you talk about back in the day when your song was number one, it was number one every where. But also back then did they have all of the different charts to climb. And who decides whos chart is better ? Who decides whos chart is the main chart to climb? This is very disturbing to me. This needs to brought to light because I am sure so many people are not aware of this. What can we do to bring this out.

  8. I agree R&B has gotten less respect, nut is do to the fact that we don’t have any artist that sing. There are very few good singers out. That why we love the Usher’s, Trey Songz, Dondria’s and Johnta Austin’s because they are all real R&B. There no longer real R&B out just lookers. On the Sandra Bulluck thing woman love bad boys because they are the salt on the meat. The give us flavor, and we may get mad at some of the things he does, but he put it down. If I was here I wouldn’t have divorced him based on him cheating cause she knew that already. Every woman know when her man cheating, and if it’s really yours than claim it. I think he still hittin it. I know I would the best sex comes from a bad boy, or a real dude.

  9. Tongadude, YOu have some great ideas. Some of them a few of us have already discussed. Number 2 you stated having twitter chats with her tour partners, Trey and Monica. Instead of having twitter chats, they should do it via USTREAM. Get the three of them together and do it. Trey and Monicas followers (800k and 300k) will also be exposed to DONDRIA. This will get their followers excited and curious about her. For one, they will start following her which will boost up her followers. Her single “You’re the one” sales will boost. And then all of the new followers will be excited about the album coming out. Maybe this can be done a few days or the day before the tour starts. It would be even better if they could do one before each city to be the people pumped up for the show.

  10. R&B gets no respect because the world we live in has been desensitized to anything that resembles love… R&B’s foundation is in making music that has solid messages of love, relationships etc… now a days all the ppl want is a quickie, skeeet skeeet and a funky a$$ stripper song. R&B will make a comback when love makes a come back! As Gerald has passed and other legends the responsibliity of carrying the torch was left in the hands of our generation and we mickey-moused it and made it watered down and commercial. We used to have real women and men doing R&B now we got gay a$$ niggas trying to sing a hetrosexual message and the ppl ain’t falling for it…

  11. So JD are you saying that it is alright for a married man to cheat because he is a bad boy! SMH

  12. I don’t know anything about Jessie James or Sandra Bullock’s love life, I don’t care to know. But I would answer your question and let you know the reason why girls go for bad boys. Bad Boys got swag, that’s all you need to know. There are many reason’s why girls like Bad Boys. If you think about it, it’s pretty much the confusion that women have on man in general. When we are young, our parents didn’t teach us the kinds of man or women that are out there for stable/healthy/balance relationships. Their mind set isn’t as matured as others who know and are aware of certain people that’s out there you know what I’m saying? Once we get older and we been through all the crap with man in relationships that we choose to be with, we start to get frustrated and that is when women start to realize that we need a good man in our life. Not everyone knows a good man OR women when they see one. Not every knows a quality/characteristics of a good person.

Us people always make mistakes and eventually we all learn from it one day.

  13. (for R&B)
This is what I believe. When you have the generation following a trend, labels are going to follow the listeners and fill them up with what they want, even if its some BS. In today’s generation that “trend” is having those TRUE R&B artist do POP genre related music. R&B has lost its touch because the listener’s ATTENTION ON WHAT THE MUSIC IS, is elsewhere! YOU HAVE KIDS at 11 & 12 THAT DON’T EVEN KNOW WHAT REAL R&B IS! So the decline in the importance of R&B is trying to make POP as a part of R&B instead of keeping that Rhythm & Blues. I didn’t watch that the special on VH1 but I can bet that one of the “only 4” hit records Usher had, that went #1, that they announced was “Yeah ft. Ludacris & Lil John”. I must say the record was hot went it came out but today you won’t really find it being played at “urban” clubs; (YES I KNOW B/C I’M A DJ) but in a pop orientated club they still request that song, and some party throwers STILL PUT IT ON THE PLAYLIST! (BTW B. Cox’s Remix to Mirrors went ham is the predominantly white club, and i can bet that the song was written in a R&B prospective, but they loved it!) When the ratings for R&B are down and its losing its importance, people turn to the next hottest thing that is similar. I just don’t get how people can listen to such stuff at all times when music compels feelings and emotions that you compare with, not everything is hype in life, that true R&B can let someone get through hard times. The only solution I can think of is KEEP THE TRUE R&B ALIVE. R&B Producers should go out the mentality for the, and money should make sure these labels promote the true music and quit BSing on this “trend” going on… I’m a DJ, so i love seeing the crowd get hype, but I’m a musician & upcoming producer that loves the way music makes me feel. Dondria is keep that music alive! True R&B support the movement folks. –Da Wiz

  14. I dealt with commit phobics in the past. Most man may need to evaluate themselves and find out why most of their past relationship didn’t work out. It’s not because women don’t love you for who you are and it’s not because women want to change you. It’s because they can’t trust you and It’s because they can’t tolerate the things you do. If a women has to complain, than something is wrong with you. You doing things that you not suppose to do like cheat, lie, etc… Yes, these are the kind of men that are very insecure, confused, immature and shallow when it comes to women and etc. They think that if they was to deal with so many women at once, they feel/think they can find that girl that they want base off of how good looking she is and how good she is in bed. These are the least things that matter. When you have that kind of mindset, you become shallow. You start to think negative about most women, and where you stand with most women because of your past with women. With some man, they start to feel that being nice doesn’t work for them, so they turn to another outlet which is to not to take relationships seriously or not to be in a relationships at all. This happens when They start feeling suffocated and fail to bear the burden of the relationship.
They feel as if they are trapped and in no way do they want to enter into a long-term relationship. Finally, they look for opportunities to put an end to the relationship when men no longer feel satisfied/stimulated in their current relationships. Instead of ending it, they deliberately try to hurt their partner and show valid reasons for the relationship to fail. I have male friends that criticize several characteristics in women that they dislike, which causes the man to generalize too much. Just like how women generalize man for being jerks, man generalize women for being ****es.
The problem with most women is that they stay in relationships that isn’t working out and that isn’t healthy for us. What keeps us women not leaving is love. We don’t want to leave a relationship that we started in the first place because we think that if we was to change our man to make them better man that can be faithful, loyal, trustworthy, and respectful that things will be all better in the relationship. If a man can’t be a one women man, than he is not mentally and emotionally ready for a relationship. He has to mature and realize why he became the man that he is today that no women wants. He needs to figure out why his relationships always a constant battle for him. He needs to learn how take responsibility for his actions. He need to find himself and do some soul searching.

We all have to learn how to value the opposite sex. We have to set boundaries for ourselves and we have to set a high standard for ourselves in order to find the one that we’re looking for.
Physical attraction is one thing, but having an mental/emotional attraction to someone is what matters the most because that is where LOVE comes about.

FOR ALL OF YOU WHO ARE HAVING PROBLEMS IN SEAKING/LOOKING FOR SOMEONE GOOD IN YOUR LIFE, LISTEN UP…
To all the confused women out there, do not make yourself easy or available. Man love a challenge. Naw, I’m just kidding hahaha. But my advice is… STOP DATING/SETTLING FOR EMOTIONALLY UNAVAILABLES, LOSERS, DOUCHEBAGS, BAD BOYS, PLAYERS, COMMITMENT PHOBICS, BABY DADDY DRAMAS, WOMEN BEATERS, DRUG ADDICTS, SEX ADDICTS, & WOMANIZERS, and you won’t ever have to suffer the emotional distress again! And for the guys, stop dating/settling for EMOTIONALLY UNSTABLES, PSYCHOS, GOLD DIGGERS, SPOIL BRATS, PARTY GIRLS, SLUTS, BABY MOMMA DRAMAS, MEN BEATERS, USERS, LAIRS, BOYFRIEND STEALERS, & TWO TIMERS and you won’t ever have to suffer the emotional distress again either. Gosh cheeses! Stop settling for less!

    ABOUT THE MUSIC

BLAME THE WHITE PEOPLE. THEY HAVE TOOK OVER THE BLACK INDUSTRIES AND HIRED PRODUCERS WHO MAKE EURO POP MUSIC. EVEN THAT TRANCE FUSION INCORPORATED WITH RAP, R&B, AND POP, ROCK IS IN NOW. US PEOPLE WHO MUSIC THAT LIKE THAT SHIT BECAUSE EVERYTHING IS NOW SOUNDING THE SAME. THE REASON WHY THEY DO THAT IS BECAUSE THEY KNOW TRANCE IS POPULAR AND IS NOW BANDED IN CLUBS. MUSIC BELONGS IN ITS OWN GENRE.

US PEOPLE WHO KNOW MUSIC DON’T LIKE THAT SHIT BECAUSE EVERYTHING IS NOW SOUNDING THE SAME. ONLY YOUNGSTA’S LISTEN TO TODAY’S MUSIC. THE REASON WHY THEY DO THAT IS BECAUSE THEY KNOW TRANCE IS POPULAR AND IS NOW BANDED IN CLUBS. MUSIC BELONGS IN ITS OWN GENRE.

    MY BAD

  16. I would agree with MISS BENJIE on the bad boy thing, so tell us JD is that what made Janet fall for you. I felt that you got a little emotional about the Jessie James and Sandra Bullock issue and if she know what she was getting into or if he hid that side of him. To me your emotions sound like it was coming from your personal life, I’m just saying.

  17. At first… HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO JOHNNY HOE!!!!!!!!!!! =)

Second… Vh1 didnt reconize so much things about Ushers carrer… Usher holds so much records, they could have talked hours about his success, it was just all about BEHIND THE MUSIC. it was about his personal life and his relationships.

Third… The last two episodes of LTL were great. LTL was gettin a lil lame in the last time…

  18. I think it’s because (and Im not trying to say anything bad about the music. I’ve loved all forms of music since I was 2yrs old) mixing R&B and Hip Hop. Instead of them seeing it as an R&B song, they see it as a Hip Hop and R&B song. Remember R&B was R&B and Hip Hop was Hip Hop. It’s not like that any more, R&B and Pop use to go hand in hand now they work against each other. what I’m saying is there was a time when you couldn’t get the two mixed up. It was what it was and we don’t have to much of that now because of everyone seeing Hip Hop and R&B as one genre, not knowing that these are to different types of music and they have been combined for many years and many years to come. im not knocking Hip Hop and R&B being combined its just that i think people need to know what REAL R&B is again.

  19. I’m gonna start from the bottom up, first, No, I don’t think you’re gonna make that flight!!! LOL!!!! Secondly, As a girl who loves bad boys, I have to agree with what you said about Ms. Bullock, she is attracted to that type and regardless of how badly her heart was broken, she is still attracted to that type of man, an edgy type of dude!!! not to mention they have a past together. It happens everyday a chick gets cheated on and she takes the dude back. I think sometimes we expect for famous people to make different decisions that everyday people just cause of their celebrity, forgetting that they are everyday people, just on TV!!!!!!!

As far as R&B music, thats a hard one because essentially we are saying that those other than R&B fans determine its greatness and worthiness in the industry. They aren’t looking at the music as art, rather a genre that can be boxed. The Usher VH1 special was an effort to box Usher into a genre of pop music negating the fact that R&B is in his blood and the root of his art. It is definitely unfair, but what do we do? Where do we go from here to change that?

    Happy BDAY John!!!

  20. Hello,

@ TONGADUDE …..THIS SHIT RIGHT HERE….NEPHEW THIS SHIT RIGHT HERE!!!!! IF JD DON’T GET AT YOU ON THE NOTE ALONE THAT YOU HAVE …..A BIT OF THE IT……
I DON’T KNOW WHAT I’LL THINK!!!!!! tHE INDUSTRY WANTS TO DEAL WITH ONLY PEOPLE THEY KNOW.. IT’S LIKE WORKING FOR A BIG CORP….YOU SEE MORE OF THE FAMILY OF THE WHITE FOLK THAN ANYONE AND HELL THEY BEEN EMPLOYED SINCE THE AGE OF 2. AND THEN YOU WONER WHY R&B DOESN’T GET RESPECT………..RESPECT YORSELF AND STOP SAYING YES TO EVERYTHING JUST CAUSE YOU HERE CHING AT THE END!!!! MY OPINION

    STAY BLESSED
    2 FINGERZ UP

  21. Follow @dondriaaug17th on Twitter!
    http://www.facebook.com/dondriaalbumcountdown

    JD,

Just like your quote you posted…..we have to find other ways to get what we want.
We need cross demographics. Right now, majority of her audience is young. I grew up in 90s and many of my peers have shunned away from new artists. LET’S RECREATE! #TEAMDONDRIA…

  22. HAPPY B-DAY JOHNNY…AKA THE WHITE GUY!!!!!!!! 🙂

I too thought that a #1 record was a #1 record period…No MATTER what the genre, but I have also noticed that over the past couple of years that people tend to only think it counts if it’s #1 on Billboard *SMDH*.
IMHO part of it is because of what @Ace La said about the lines between Hip-Hop & R&B being blurred. Another part is that my observation has been that it mainly falls on R&B artists that have had their songs crossover & gained a bunch of “Pop” hits…u don’t see people like Jill Scott, Maxwell,etc.. being told “So What, u just got another #1 R&B song” (or maybe u do).

& that leads to another point….I don’t know who makes the final decision on what an artists lead single is but if I was going to put my finger on “WHO” made it so that R&B gets disrespected the way it does lately I’d start with whoever that is! Take Usher for instance, his last 3 albums had club tracks as lead singles but to me Here I Stand & Confessions were more R&B albums as a whole, he’s not the only 1 because Mariah & Monica did it too(not with Here I Am though ;))……the implication that sends to fans is that the top of that Billboard 200 is what’s most important. It also happened when u did “Better Start Talking” with Donell Jones….now as much as I LOVE that song, when I listened 2 the whole Jouney of a Gemini album it was the odd wheel so to speak(Not that it’s not an R&B song, but there goes them blurry lines again LOL). Donell had even spoke on it sayin that he wasn’t neccesarily looking for a song like that to be on the album but that “THE LABEL” had kind of forced his hand on it & then it ended up being the lead single. If the LABELS aren’t willing to push the R&B singles on an R&B Artists album then that also helps to diminishing the R&B genre in the publics eyes.

JD u b killin me……I just KNEW u was gonna b like “Well I’ve been 2 a biker bar & yadda yadda..” but NOOOOO!!!! LMMFAOCDFU!!!! As far as the Sandra & Jessie thing goes….UR RIGHT!!!When we get with “Bad Boys” we KNOW that we’re at a 50/50 risk of something like that happening & while NOBODY wants to get hurt…we take that chance anyway! Without really knowing what was going on in her head Imma just guess that she knew what kind of man he would be but stupidly (like most of us women do) thought that he would change for her *SMDH*.

  23. JD, Dondria’s first single has a R&B feel MIXED with Gospel tone and it is a hit. The second single has a r&b AND hip hop flavor. I would say to some degree Dondria is appealing to more than just the R&B audience already. A lot of people are drawn to the artist themselves and that results in high sales. I wouldnt be worried. Going by those 2 singles I’m sure you, Bryan, Johnta, and Dondria have done extensive work to make sure this album is right. I would continue with the Internet endeavors but extend more into OUTSIDE OF WHATS ONLINE. She’s already gettin that covered. I have many ideas for that.

i’ll be glad to share ideas at the next meeting

    @RichNDangerous

  24. R&B is no longer respected because rap (not hip-hop) killed the genre. I think that’s part of it. Also, I think it’s the mentality that something can’t possibly be good or worth anything unless the majority population is attached to it somehow.

As for Sandra, of course she knew who her husband was when she married him. But, I don’t think she signed up for the constant cheating with every hoochie he could find. Yeah, she liked the unpolished parts, but why does that have to include being unfaithful? Why couldn’t Jesse get his “biker boy” persona on, but still have some respect for his wife and not bang every trick in his path? Does one go with the other?

  25. Most people nowadays dont even know the difference between Hip Hop and RnB.
And seriously thats not even their fault anymore. what is Ciara considered as? a singer? she speaks softly over a track. there in no new music out that has any content.

Its like Monica was swept under the rug and the singles she has released are definitely worthy. Music is declining. its about money and thats it. honestly take a look at Justin Bieber and look how he got to where he is at, he did his shit off pure talent. im not buying his album but you got to respect his hustle.

  26. 1st I wanna say Happy B-day @JohnnyHo aka Ask the White Guy, 2nd I wanna say I’m liking RNB more than any other genre, and I like ALL genre’s. I believe it’s the generation we are in. Mostly I hear the older folks and by older I mean people older than me because I’m 19, but even me I still say I miss the old school ways of music and dancing. I’ve always wanted to slow dance, prob cuz of the movie *The Wood* But now people be almost having sex on the dance floor, I dont want that. I’ve brought more RNB albums more than RAP albums. But like Janea sayd no one knows the difference. But I don’t agree with the Ciara comment, because Janet sings the same way but better ofcourse, Janet has that soft speak. RNB is like the life of anyone u can feel it, u can be mad, sad, happy, it can even make u cry. I think people are afraid of the emotions it brings. I love songs with emotion to it. (I don’t no if this answers anything lol) but last but not least 3rd, I wanna no what kind of session Mairah got goin on, is Nick in there with her? lol

  27. its true that R&B has not been getting the props it used to get back in the 70’s right up to the early 90’s and its just a same. I believe the reason we can get out of this rut is that artist these days feel the need to be on the trend that is Euro dance music that seems to pass from R&B singers are putting out and its driving me fucking crazy!!!!!! It’s like thy are almost to scared to put out that real R&B record and rep it to the world. Its as though they think the masses dont need this music when we do. I say stop trying to make a record to cross over to apeal to the masses be true to your self as an artist and the masses will meet you as an R&B artist and put at the top of the billboard charts if thats where you want to be. And as for the sandra bullock andjesse james convo i agree with what was said as a woman I know that if I get involved with a bad boy I know with in my self what time it is. As woman we think that if we give a man time and treat him good give him all the space he needs he will change his ways because he is with us. that is sooooo silly to think you can change a man just because your with him people change when they are ready to face what ever it is their going through on there own . sandra is only getting a divource because this has blown up in the media and nobody likes to have people scrotinizing you because of the choices you make hence the divorce. she knew what kind of man he was and she still leeped into a marriage with him so she was ready to take what ever came her way.

  28. ooh almost forgot hap[py birthday to johnny aka the white guy hope you had a reat birthday

  29. Happy Birthday Johnny

  30. happy bday johnny guitar!!!!!!! and 2 all lifers and jd idk if yall remember this episode pf ltl but check it out the ocean boys was clownin 4 real lmao http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nm4_YfzvmBQ

    BIEM!!!!

  31. I think we as black people (including the artist and entertainers) have lost respect for our genre. Let’s take the award shows, like The Grammys, American Music Awards, and BET Awards. How come at the Grammys and other award shows the black people are dressed really classy. But when it comes to the BET awards, everyone dresses down in jeans or whatever. Why is that? How come BET awards show does not get the same respect that you all give the Grammys or the American Music Awards? Do everyone say ” Oh its just the BET awards, let me find me some laid back gear to wear. We can’t blame no one but ourselves for the lack of respect for our R&B genre. R&B will get respect when people see that WE repsect R&B.

  32. *Happy BornDay Johnny (AskaWhiteGuy)!

*Sandra Bullock she knew what she married, but where he went wrong was
    1. He cheated down. O_o
2.His drama made her look like a victim, at one of the biggest highlights in her career. It will always be “Academy Award winner Sandra Bullock, later discovered the man she trusted, her husband had a big secret” in her life’s bio. Smh…That shit is embarrassing!

*Lack of Respect for R&B (I have two views)

    1. Why should the industry be concerned with an arena that doesn’t generate as much profit as the other areas. A large percentage of the target customer buy the music illegally. There for the industry takes a lost on their investment (the artist). Why should I (industry) invest in an arena where I ( insert non urban person here) can’t create, perform, and exploit?
*sidenote: I notice the industry is still willing to fund the urban talents to remain behind the scenes to write, produce, and give direction to the “new white” R&B acts.

    2. (This may be far fetched but it’s MY OPINION)
Music has always been a source of strength for Black people for centuries. We live in a time where the prison rate is so high for minorities, and the education rate is declining.

If I keep you uneducated you remain mute, take away exposure and support to your music you remain weak.

    Modern Day William Lynch techniques?
Stop and think about the 70’s when our people were the strongest. R&B and Funk reign supreme, and we had numerous educated figures demonstrating strength with a large following.

But what do I know I’m only 26…Just MY OPINION and something to think about.

  33. To touch on the conversation about the R&B situation – I think the main issue is that there is a blend of genres when it comes to R&B. It can be categorized with Pop & Hip Hop. Today you have rappers spittin’ a couple of bars on R&B songs & if the rapper is more popular then the singer than unfortunately it will probably be categorized as Hip Hop. Back in the day when the Commadors had number one hits, Hip Hop wasn’t even on the charts, nor was Pop – so therefore it fit right where it needed to be, R&B. No one was spittin’ a few bars on Brickhouse. R&B isn’t dead, it very much alive – look at Dondria; she has officially givin’ it CPR. Let’s keep in mind, music is an ever changing machine…it is constantly evolving and will continue to do so – it is what it is – stick n’ steak my friend.
