  6. How yall got GP over Isiah Thomas? Matta fact, you can probably put Steve Nash and J. Kidd before Gary Payton. GP was cold, but DEF NOT in top 5 of all time. And Penny didn’t even play long enough to be considered. After that injury he was thru. He was aiight when he came in the league, but he was just a modern poor mans Magic Johnson.

  7. 1) Stockton go first just cause he brought the same productivity every night for 18 years he had the longevity that the others didn’t and he averaged 10 assist his last year at 40!

    2) Magic he was unguardable at his position and he made every person on the court better and 5 rings dont lie. Only reason he second because he tried the comback 4 no reason.

    3) Gary Payton was the best point guard I had seen on both ends of the floor. He could score 20 dish out 9 assist and get 2 steals and still step up and guard the best player on the floor(Jordan)

    4) Jason Kidd is what every point guard should be. He has the size speed and court vision that makes the average players look good(Nets). He also shows that at his age he refined his game and added a jump shot which makes him still a treat on the floor and he rebounds at his position.

    5) Oscar Robinson I never seen him play but his stats have to be respected in the way that its very difficult for players to get triple doubles and he averaged that for a season plus he did it in an era thats is forgetten about their stats. (Wilt averaged 50 and 20 for a season and people say Mike the best or Shaq the most dominate ever?)

  33. 1. Magic Johnson-Transcended the Point guard position. Played all 5 positions and made it cool to be a big guard that can handle the rock. Made the Lakers a Dynasty and won multiple championships.

    2. John Stockton-Passed Magic and become the NBA’s alltime assist man. He and Karl Malone set the standard for the pick and roll offense that is often duplicated in today’s game. Reached finals twice if i’m not mistaken and would have won had he not played in Jordan’s era.

    3. Oscar Robertson-Incredible passer and scorer. And a underappreciated defender. Great leader on the floor as well

    4. Isiah Thomas-Great Leader, could score many ways. Drive past you, pull up and shoot over you, and beat almost everyone off the dribble. Helped create “the bad boy” atmosphere in Detroit. Remember for about his 1st 6th seasons MJ couldn’t get pass Isiah and the pistons. To bad he got snubbed on the “Dream Team”

    5. Jason Kidd- A walking triple double! Wasn’t considered a good shooter when he 1st entered the league but has turned himself into a nice stand still shooter. Evidence by his 3pt shooting percentage this year. I like J. Kidd cause he can be the best player on the floor w/out even having to take a shot. He can guard the point or shooting guard, and is has high basketball IQ.

    *Penny Hardaway-Cmon son like Tyrone say “that ain’t it” don’t get me wrong Penny was a great player but fact is he only made it the finals one year w/ the Magic w/ a young Shaq by his side. And his career was really cut short by all the injuries. Had he not gotten injured MCL or ACL forgot which one, Penny probably could of gone done as top 5 point guards off all time. But if you look at the stats and overall impact he just doesn’t measure up to the rest of the competition.

I Didn’t Mention Gary Payton Because When I Think Of Point Guard The First Thing That Comes To Mind Is Assists And Getting Your Team Involved Sure Gary Did That But That’s Not What He Was Really Known For, He Was Known For That DEFENSE That’s Why They Call Him The Glove But He Still Is On My Top 10 – 15 List Though! A Point Guard Needs To Be Able To Dominate The Ball, Be The Leader And Get His Teams Involved And I Feel All Of The People On My List Have Done That SUCCESSFULLY!

  48. Penny Hardaway?! You’ve got to be kidding me. When he was HEALTHY for 3-5 years in his career, he played at a high level. But to be an all-time great, you gotta ball for at LEAST 10 years consistently at a very high level to deserve mention. With that said….

    1. Earvin “Magic” Johnson – We all know his contribution to the game, so no explanation necessary.

    2. Oscar “Big O” Robertson – Averaged a triple double for his first FIVE seasons. Think about that… 30ppg, 10rebs, 10assts, for FIVE seasons. Who does that?!

    3. Isaiah “Zeke” Thomas – How many players can say they won TWO rings in the late 80s while beating Jordan, Bird, and Magic in succession to earn those rings?

    4. Gary “Da Glove” Payton – Anyone who has ever played bball at a high level will tell you, to score and defend at a high level CONSISTENTLY is no easy task. That is why defensive specialists normally focus strictly on defense, or players only stick the best opposing player in short spurts. The Glove was scoring, passing, and defending at high levels every night.

    5. Jason Kidd – One of the purest PG’s the game has ever seen. People who remember Kidd in his early days for the Mavs or the Suns know Kidd was NO JOKE. And lets not forget he led the Nets… the NETS to the finals two straight seasons and should have gotten league MVP at least once.
