Strikes Close French Museums

ITS SO MUCH CRAZY STUFF GOIN ON IN THE WORLD, DAMN!!!!!!! I HAD THE OPPORTUNITY TO GO IN HERE AND TAKE PICTURES IT WAS AMAZING. THIS IS A MUST SEE WHENEVER YOU GO TO PARIS

The Louvre Museum and the royal palace at Versailles closed Thursday as the French museum workers’ strike began to gather strength. The AP paints a scene of tourists gathered outside the Louvre unable to enter past the blockade of protesting workers. Workers at the Francois Mitterrand National Library in southeast Paris have voted to join the strike Friday. At this point it is not known how many workers are on strike. The culture minister has remained adamant that France cannot make an exception for museum workers in the sweeping government staff reductions and that the museums must find a way to survive with fewer employees.

  3. It’s truly sad when extaordinary things are hindered by finance. This makes me think about the performance tax proposal. I mean why!!! And at the same time WTF!!!

  4. I have been to this museum a few times & it is truly amazing! The global economic crunch is hurting everyone.
    We are subject to play Wii and video games at home for entertainment which is WACK!
    I am happy to live in NYC … we can get up, get out and do SOMETHING!

  6. I was there over the summer, and yes it truly was amazing and a must see. But our tour guide mentioned that strikes are France’s “national sport” infact the day we went there we had to wait because the workers had gone on strike that mourning, luckilly they figured out everything within 20 minutes. So striking at the Louvre is not uncommon.

  8. It is crazy out there! Closing museums now….who would have thought it would come to this.
    I have been to many of the museums in Paris and all i can say it is an experience in history and art that makes my appreciation even deeper! A national treasure!
