Allen Iverson returns to Philadelphia
December 2, 2009 | 10:29 am
A week after announcing his retirement, Allen Iverson is heading back to where his professional career started.
The Philadelphia 76ers announced today it had signed Iverson and that he’d be making his debut Monday against the Denver Nuggets. The Sixers decided to give Iverson a chance after Lou Williams broke his jaw against Washington on Nov. 24.
“We felt Allen was the best available free agent guard to help us at this time,” Sixers President Ed Stefanski said in a release.
Iverson, 34, returns to the team he led to the NBA Finals in 2001 en route to winning the league MVP title. In 10 seasons with the club, Iverson posted the highest scoring averaging in team history (28.1) and the team record for 3-pointers (877). He ranks second in all-time scoring (19,583) for the Sixers.
Iverson was banished from the team after refusing to play the fourth quarter of a game against the Chicago Bulls in December 2006. He was later traded to Denver.
The Sixers are riding a seven-game losing streak heading into tonight’s contest against Oklahoma City.

  1. All this really doesn’t really matter, all that matters is the guys in Purple and Gold will be taking home the Championship once again come June

  2. JESS!!! I hope he makes the best of this season and proves why he’s not a bench warmer!!!

  3. BTW I liked that quote too Jermaine!!! Very fitting!!!

  4. I was so excited when i heard about this. Dee84, its not really about him comming back to Philly to get a ring. Most people know the Lakers will take it this year again. Its more about AI comming back to where he started, ending his career on what will hopefully be a high note, on the team that he carried for 8 years. Philly is his home when it comes to the NBA, and everyone knows it. It will provide him a team that will embrace him, and will give the fans hope again. Regardless what anyone whats to think, AI, only 34, can still go out and get 25-30 a night In my opinion. Just watch. Welcome back Chuck!

  5. Iverson’s return will be 1 to remeber. And that which is memorable should never be forgotten. At the same time there things in our past that we never wanted to transpire at all.

  6. i was beyond excited when i found this out, i still believe he can be one of the premiere guards in the league. hes the only thing stopping himself and how good he can get back to becoming.hes been my fav. player groing up and im so happy his retirement wasnt final! #3 all day

  7. Allen Iverson is to retiring as Jay-Z is to retiring. which means i knew neither one was gon go through with. can’t be mad tho!!Allen Iverson will go down as one of the greatest point guards of all time.

  8. Im glad to see Iverson back where he started! ever since he got traded 4rm the Sixers he’s been having a rough time…he just need a good set of players to play with! Hopefully he’ll get his Ring, he deserves it!

  9. i so damn tired of Allen and his bullshit! now with that being said i am glad that he didn’t retire and rejoined his old team. i like to see him get a ring. the problem his has is he’s a good player,he knows it and he thinks the sun rise and fall on his ass! the return has come full circle maybe this time he can be a team player.

  10. smh… everything will change again…. watch -_-

  11. The quote really touched my soul due the that fact that in life people sometimes try to put you in a box because of your past and never let you forget the stupid shit you did. Reguardless of their situation it is the only power they feel that they have over you. All i can say is I GET OUT!! B.CHUCK will always be special to me because I saw him play a pick up game with his boys in Hampton,Va 3weeks before the draft and he got out of the car ask who had winners and took over the court. Ask Joe Smith about the time he got dunked on by Chuck when he covered his face like DEE BROWN. And football, forget about it!! Amazing!! Pure is the only thing I can say!!

  12. Great… I love it…

  13. AI is my fav player. Was saddened when he announced he was retiring, but I was beyond excited when Sixers said they signed him. It was only fitting for him to return to where his career started and where he had the most success. I think that he can be a great asset to the team they have now. Hopefully they can turn the season around and be a playoff contender. I would love for him to get a ring…time will tell if that wil ultimately happen. Good luck A.I. and the 76ers!

  14. Am I the only one who doesn’t give a fuck if this overrated nigga retires or not?!?!? I like A.I., but let’s face it, he’ll be stiring up bullshit in Philly once again and causing all types of trouble. AND he’s STILL not goin to fuckin practice! 😀 lmao!…oh and by the way, THE LAKERS ARE GOING TO TAKE THAT SHIT AGAIN IN NEXT JUNE. LONG LIVE KOBE!!!!

  15. I LOVE THIS!!! I didnt like the Memphis thing… or the Detroit thing.. (loved the Denver thing though only because he was done in Philly) But I really do hope this works out!!! AI… Coming back home!! But we all know hes gonna try to do too much to prove a point… I ust hope he doesnt get hurt!!!

  16. AYYYY,YESSSS!
