Vevo Launch Date Set

I THINK THIS IS COOL SEEING THAT EVERYBODY IS COMPLAINING ABOUT MTV AND BET NOT PLAYING VIDEOS ANYMORE. WHAT DO YOU THINK? WILL YOU WATCH?

The Vevo online music video service is expected to launch Dec. 8, according to sources close to the company.

The launch will kick off with an invite-only party at Skylight Studios in New York’s Tribeca neighborhood for key executives and advertising partners.

The joint venture between Universal Music Group and Sony Music Entertainment is a YouTube-powered online destination for all music videos and other video assets from the labels involved. No details yet on whether other labels will join the venture by the launch date.

Rio Caraeff, formerly executive VP of UMG’s eLabs division, is CEO of the new venture. He and his team have spent the last several months generating both outside investment and advertising partners. The company scored investment from Abu Dhabi Media Company at a reported $300 million valuation, and named AT&T as its first significant advertising partner.

  1. I Like the idea i just hope its authentic. I remember when i could find out about a new artist just by turning on bet or mtv. Today its not like that. If it only plays the big artists videos it will be kinda pointless. But if i can go to the site and search anything from Jay-Z ,Young Jeezy,or Drake to The Cool Kids or Pac Div or Matt and Kim then it should be Dope. Cause some of my favorite videos from even some big name artists ive never seen on mtv or bet lol.

  2. Im all for this website…When I hit up youtube or some other website looking for a music video I get bombarded with fake shit and pisses me off. I would def be a fan of this website and would visit daily!

  3. Yo JD, Will this be launched a some kind of TV network or will this only be an online video network?? Holla @ me on twitter with the response, click on my name

  4. I BEEN COMPLAINING ABOUT THIS EVER SINCE I FIRST CAME ONTO YOUR WEBSITE J.D. ALL THEY PLAY ON BET, MTV, AND VH1 ARE WACK ASS REALITY SHOWS AND OLD ASS BLOCK BUSTER MOVIES. BUT WHAT’S THE POINT OF WATCHING MUSIC VIDEO’S NOW DAYS? ALL THE MOTHA FUCKING MUSIC VIDEO’S THAT YOU SEE NOW DAYS ALWAYS GOING TO HAVE THE SAME VIDEO CONCEPT. YOU WILL ALWAYS SEE A CLUB SCENE IN A MUSIC VIDEO. YOU WILL ALWAYS SEE THE SAME VIDEO MODELS SHAKING THEIR FAT ASS IN A MUSIC VIDEO. YOU WILL ALWAYS SEE A R&B NIGGA STOCKING A FINE ASS VIDEO CHICK IN A MUSIC VIDEO. YOU WILL ALWAYS SEE A LOVE SCENE OR A BOOTY CALL SCENE IN A MUSIC VIDEO. LIKE, I DON’T GIVE A SHIT IF I SEE MUSIC VIDEO NOW DAYS BECAUSE IT’S NEVER GOING TO CHANGE. NO ARTIST OUT THERE HAVE THEIR OWN ORIGINALITY, PERSONALITY, VISUALITY, INTELLECTUALITY, NOTIONALITY AND ETC…
EVERY ARTIST RIGHT NOW IS WACK AS FUCK, AND FAKE AS FUCK WHEN IT COMES TO FOLLOWING TODAY’S TREND AND TODAY’S SOUND. NO ONE ISN’T BEING ORGINAL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I’M SICK OF IT NOW. I DON’T LIKE A LOT OF THE SONGS THAT I’M HEARING ON THE RADIO ACCEPT FOR MAXWELL, WHITNEY HOUSTON, AND WHOEVER IS KEEPING IT REAL. BUT FOR SOME REASON, A LOT OF THE SONGS I LIKE ARE NOT GETTING ANY AIR PLAY, ONLY THE MAINSTREAM CRAP THAT’S OUT RIGHT NOW.

  5. ALWAYS STAY TRUE TO YOURSELF AND TO FOLLOW YOUR HEART; DON’T JUST FOLLOW ANOTHER TREND JUST TO FIT IN. THERES A LOT OF R&B ARTIST/RAP ARTIST OUT THERE ARE TOO MUCH ALIKE IN THEIR STYLE IN SOUND. LIKE, WHAT’S THE POINT OF SUPPORTING EVERY R&B/RAP ARTIST OUT THERE??? IT’S THE SAME TREND THAT’S BEEN GOING ON FOR A DECADE NOW; IT GETS KIND OF BORING AFTER A WHILE. I NOT THAT BIG ON TODAY’S SOUND. I BELIEVE THAT TECHNO/HIP HOP CRAP THAT I’M HEARING ON THE RADIO IS BOGUS! WHAT MAKES AN ARTIST SPECIAL IS THEIR INDIVIDUALITY.

  7. The ability to just watch and listen is good. But how long it will stay that way we will see. Remember how those that are under the bus now started…probly some of the same things said now were said about them in their beginnings. But Ill watch for sure.

  8. Seems like a great ideal and i’m looking forward to it’s launch.

  9. From what I read about Vevo, if will be like the online warehouse for music videos and feed sites like Youtube and Yahoo music videos. I read an article where they said all the views on Universal’s Youtube Channel will go to Vevo as soon as they launch. Vevo will control all advertising on videos. So it will be like Hulu.com for music videos. So for example when you are Youtube looking for a music video, the video will be provide by Vevo just like Movies on Youtube are provide by Crackle.

It’s a smart move by the labels something they should have done 5 years ago. They have thousands of old music videos that people will love to see. If they put the Itunes/Amazon link at the bottom of the video like they do on Youtube. It will definite help them sale more singles. I still think the labels and publishers underestimate the power of people doing covers of songs on Youtube. I have found out about a lot of songs and artists because somebody did a cover of their song. That’s how I found Drake 2 years ago.

  10. Checking you out on Fox Business, one thing I would like to know is I think a lot of people in the music industry has to get use to the fact that it’s not going to be as much money in the industry as it use to be especially for hip hip and rnb. I think going Gold is going to be a major accomplishment again. I think you are going to see the rise of independent labels again. Do you think that will happen JD?

  11. Personally, I think that music videos don’t hold impact like they used too…. I don’t even watch MTV and BET like that anymore and definitely not for no damn music videos. If I really wanted to see a video, I’ll youtube that shit. I watch the Disney channel and mostly, only the Disney channel… EVERYTHING else is youtube affiliated but if I have to go to a separate site to watch a damn video then I’ll pass. I mean, maintain stream music/ artist don’t really interest me anymore. I’m always looking for the new new shit. lmao. random, sorry. lmao! Anyway, yeah… I don’t really know. I’m indifferent about this.

    Nisha
    XOxo

Also, how do that plan to regulate the face that folk “illegally” upload music videos to youtube all the time anyway?

  12. Would you
