I think it can be addictive for people who have some kind of sexual trauma at a young age, which is a case for a lot of people on the sex rehab show. I watch the show & most of them have some kind of deep rooted issues from their past that they have not addressed. And that can be a scary thing because, having this type of addiction can prevent you from having any real relationship with a person.

Its real! I’m a recovering addict myself. With the help of a solid faith, accountability and therapy I made it out! It was hard for a brother to admit, but in retrospect I had dug myself into a dark pit. I recognized I was addicted as I struggled with alcohol addiction as a young adult. And to be honest Oprah was being kind… Sexual addiction is THEE number one addiction! Thanks to main stream media and its easy accessibility!

i was at one point…i’ve gone a year without it but i still have random urges sometimes. it was bad for a while. i was wildin. when i would have sex, oral or otherwise, it’s like an out of body experience. i’ve realized i dont even like having sex, i dont really get anything out of it and i tend to not talk to the people after i’ve done them. but i’ll still do it. i dont think addiction is a form of insecurity, but a coping mechanism. having sex provides a closeness with someone even if only for a few minutes that a person is afraid to have or ask for or doesn’t realize they even want. i have a fear of commitment and control issues. i dont have to commit to someone to have sex with them and i can either have all the control or give all control when having sex. i was using it as a punishment and a reward for myself. even with me typing all this its still hard for me to explain it right.

and it is just like drugs. you have relapses, sudden urges, black outs, withdrawals, everything. it’s hard. it’s slightly easier for me because i moved away from the place i was doin all this but when i visit it’s like a former chronic gambler in a casino. hedonism takes many forms. sex is one of the main ones.

Yes, you can be addicted to sex. I am an ER RN and you would not believe what people do with their genitals! lmao, amazing and it is all for a nutt! Yes, sex can take control of anyone’s life. I began a research paper of online sexual addictions and there are MANY people suffering from this. It’s so bad for some of them that they cannot get aroused with physical contact from another person, but as soon as they turn on the computer and watch porn, there’s instant arousal.

It’s pretty sad, but it’s even more sad to see people not want to understand that sex is an addiction that people get treated for. Or even online addictions – unrelated to sex – is another condition that people need professional help for. A co-worker of mine said, “the solution is simple, just cut off the computer…or just take it away from the person.” When you’re dealing with someone that has a true addiction, there is no “simple” answer to help them get over it.

I think that sex can be addicting. I used to jack off everyday. I think don’t know about it taking over your life completely, but it could be possible..

As far as sex addiction, just like any other, is an escape mechanism, or as Kellie above said a coping mechanism. From what I’ve read and observed it’s not about the pleasure most us of get from sex, it’s the conquest, the domination, or an escapism. Then could be the opposite, the need for love or attention. Either way it’s a MENTAL and EMOTIONAL issue, not just sex.

Kirk confessed to having a porn addiction on Oprah. Again it’s not just a physical thing. Church boy that he was growing up he had some major personal issues (I read his book). Even though biographies are not ALWAYS totally truthful it’s easy to see how ppl, esp. celebs fall into various addictive behaviors. That’s my 2 cents.

I’m definitely not addicted to sex but I know someone VERY close to me who is and it’s really sad.i thought at first it was just her being single (when she was) and loving having casual sex way more than i did( she’s my opposite with that )but like i said we are very close so we talk everyday and I realize it is her drug. If i put “hennessy” or “cocaine” in the place of the word sex she is an indeed an addict. It has ruined relationships and the whole nine. She tries to not go without sex for 30 days she “relapses”…she needs sex to feel loved/wanted/needed and its with almost anyone. who puts in just enough effort. I believe it is VERY POSSIBLE to be addicted to sex. An addiction is simply something you do that begins to take over and completely interfere with your normal daily routine and structure.

So yes, if you are sitting at home watching porn or having sex rather than being at work (even to the extent that you have called in sick or have lost your job as a result); you have an addiction.

Kirk Franklin did have a porn addiction…he was on Oprah years ago talking about it. He was even featured on Ebony Mag also.

I am not personally addicted…never even had sex. But I have a distant relative who I think is. He changes women like he changes underwear. There is someone new everday and he cant seem to maintain a relationship with any of them and when he seems to be…he cheats and there goes the relationship. This addiction has even led to him working part time…sooner or later, he is probably gonna stop working altogether.

In this case, sex did take control of my friend’s life. Ask her if she feels like arguing every day to find somebody to watch the child while she goes to work. Ask her if she feels like hating the father of the child for not being there. Ask her if she feels like missing parties & hanging out cause she doesn’t have anybody to watch the child. Ask her if she feels like spending money on the child that she could have saved & used to move into her own place.

I’ll keep this simple. I like the thought of sex way more than the act of sex. I’m weird. I like the feeling of being “horny” or “in heat.” For me, that is much more orgasmic than the actual climax. No saying that being in that state for too long makes me bust…. ugh, I can’t explain. Just know that the feeling is the important part. No addiction here though. Right I think that people take sex like allot of things, very casually. I have read allot of the comments and some made me laugh and some miss the point sometimes. I think that in today’s culture sex seems to have been taken from the sacred place of the bedroom and put into the mainstream of everyday life whether your mail or female we all think about it more then I think we should.
