INTERESTING VIDEO, A FEW YEARS OLD THOUGH. THIS VIDEO IS A PERFECT REASONG WHY WE AS “BLACK” PEOPLE NEED TO STOP USING THE WORD “NIGGA”. DO YOU THINK THE TEACHER WAS WRONG?

  1. i saw this on the boondocks!!! LOL….but anyways i agree. we as black people need to stop using “nigga” as slang and anything else. it makes us sound very uneducated. i mean we as african-americans fought for so long against the word && the actions that came with it.Why do we choose to still hurt ourselves as a people?(I’m a junior in highschool && i dont use the word so no one can blame young ppl)

  2. in all due respect JD, i’ve watched living the life for the past two or three months and there was maybe four or five different episodes where the word NIGGA was not used. before you push for something to change you need to practice what you preach. once again i’m saying this with much respect.

in this situation the teacher was wrong. there is a age old saying
“Two wrongs dont make it right”

  3. I remember dis shyt….he swore he knew wat he was talkin bout when he tried to justify it..lmfao…This guy WAS wrong because not only as a caucasian male but as a TEACHER it was innppropriate. No matter what people say about “oh ell how can black people say it and ot expect a white person or person of another race to say it?” it is WRONG for a WHITE male ESPECIALLY a TEACHER to go callin his STUDENT a NIGGA…watever termonology..it was wrong….

  4. I get what you saying JD I really do. But what if he had called a female student a bitch? Think about it. Just because the students use it against eachother doesn’t mean he should too. Today’s people are so confused. I was with my mom yesterday, and I realized that black people don’t understand how they are viewed throughout the world. So what if our President is Black! That don’t change nothing about the average man. People are going to continue to use ‘nigga’, but forever and a day get mad when its used against them in another race. And the sad thing is, the people who are getting mad probably know nothing at all about slavery and what our people went through so we could live freely. They know nothing and they don’t use the opportunities they have to become something for their children to look up to.

  5. Heres a video to go with that video. The word has so much power but this young man can change your views.

    http://www.worldstarhiphop.com/videos/video.php?v=wshhvbeiyd3yO5l84hu2

*Plug*JD also check out the book photographs by Sammy Davis Jr. He has some nice black and white photographs that I would love to shoot of the Oceans 7 in vegas. hit me up*

  6. JD, I hope you be one of the first to stop. I believe I’ve heard you use nigga a BUNCH of time on living the life. Check mate!

  7. I cant believe some of the comments i’ve read…1st of all im sure that we aren’t getting the whole story…a white male in a class full of black students and all of the students say they didnt hear the other student say nicca…are you serious? I personally think they are covering for him and that he did in fact say it first. If you look at the teachers mannerisms in the video, you can clearly see, he was even uncomfortable saying it in the interview, so i can imagine he doesnt go home and slip in to his KKK robe when he gets off…

JD if you really visit this site and read comments brotha, I agree with YungCash, you need to lead by example. Many of your artists use the word every other syllable in a 16. If we continue to view ourselves as niccas, then can you really blame other races for calling us that? THen we have the audacity to get offended. Get outta here with that foolishness. Peace Brotha

  8. NOBODY should use that word, slang or not. I don’t know why its even used today, it’s just not cool. Say “MY BROTHA” instead.

  9. man. fuck that shit..NIGGA… imma keep callin my NIGGAs …NIGGAS…fuck dat… if u say bitch to a NIGGA strong enuff he gon be mad as fuck… shit da teacher has taught a shit load of NIGGAS english…he was there 20 plus yrs.. he dun probably helped all them NIGGAS how to talk.. Honor english teacher..c’mon now.. black people stop cryin wolf all the damn time.. . we are not goin to fit in with White America… SO STOP .. DO U! Stay u NIGGAS

  10. Like Paul Mooney said…when it mean something no one said shit! Now it doesn’t mean anything everyone has something to say. Black people need to get it together. if you don’t want to be called a nigga, don’t act like one! i don’t know about you but I’m Black and I’m proud!
    ~peace~

  11. You the man JD, but I agree with YungCa$h. You can’t say that we need to stop unless you ready to take a stand and do it yourself. Maybe this is your stand, but I can’t rock with you on this one.

I don’t agree that we as black people necessarily need to stop using the word. Who is it that really wants us to stop, who really has the problem with it? Is it us or is it them? It was our ancestors that were slaves, and my parents that had to shit in a different tiolet, so we have every right to say NIGGA all we want to. They don’t have that right, and they don’t have a right to want us to stop just to make them feel comfortable.

My homie did a blog post about this awhile back: http://ambitionzazawriter.com/?p=59

Now I agree with a lot of the things that Bill Cosby said in his infamous “Pound Cake Speech” , but I’m also at a generational crossroad. I’m not going to conform to make anyone comfortable. The word nigga is part of my slang, just like our women like to call each other “Bitch”. And if a white dude wants to call another white dude a “cracker” thats cool with me. But I’m not gonna call them a cracker…… at least not to their face.

  12. As i black man i can’t even be mad at this dude cause we use nigga so loosely its no surprise this happened. now he was wrong as a teacher to use that at his student but shit i hear every race callin each other nigga. we need to stop using it because words only have the power we give them. jus like female friends call each other bitch but then if somebody else calls them a bitch they get mad. so no one can be mad at him when most black ppl call themselves NIGGA. Its all stupid and brings us down and really makes us look ignorant.

  13. He was wrong because he’s a teacher and ur not supposed to teach kids that its acceptable..he’s also wrong because he’s white saying it to a black student..in the context its used in a derogatory way

  14. bohagon, i agree, im gone keep using the word. JD you can’t ask for change or try to provoke change if you are not going to do so. We as black people need to stop taking stuff to the extreme all the damn time. sometimes we need to look at things for what they are, and leave it.

  15. Wow am pretty shocked at you(JD) sayin black ppl should stop using the word nigga!
i agree black ppl should stop using the word, not none of this we are tryin to bring a positive spin on the word reh teh teh business!!! nah !!!! the word has a meanin, you cant all of a sudden turn round and say oh by the way the word book now means chair, its unpractical!!

teacher was wrong, watever terminology there aint no justification to that!!
i think a lot of black ppl would be viewed differently (with greater respect) if they refrained from the use of the word!!!

  16. wow.. so the boondocks made a parody outta this!! hahaha lol so thats were it came from!! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pPZUEYvI5GI

  17. If black people don’t want other races using the word “nigga” then they have to stop using it themselves. When a group of individuals classifies a word exclusive (for instance, “nigga” to only be used by blacks) it automatically makes others want to say it. I love black people, but I hate hypocrites.
Aside from that, I think it’s only out of respect for those past that the use of the word “Nigga” be put to rest. As an industry professional, icon and Hip Hop mogul, Jd.. you could have a nation-wide impact on how the word is used.

  18. I’m with Young Cash on this one. I’m like whatever but I personally am not going to conform in my own speech in my own circles for that reason. I used to feel like “I won’t say it because I don’t want them to say it.” It’s not a pride thing, but I had to change my outlook. If some white man wants to say it to get a rise outta me (shout out to xbox live) I can’t let that be a trigger. When you really get down to the bottom of the issue, it’s not really the word, its the intent. If that dude says it with heat and aggression, we may have an issue. Hell, if he says my name with heat and aggression, we may have a problem. 99% of the time, it’s just a fallback insult for when they’ve run outta shit to say. I’ve had this discussion with folks before, and the main issue seems to be that white folks want to say it just because they want to be able to say it (and secretly mean what they meant 40 years ago when we got killed behind the word.)

  19. As a teacher he was wrong, there shouldn’t be any type of language like that used in the classroom, but as a white man, nope. Black people need to stop calling each other that, and they can’t expect anybody else to stop using it if they don’t want to stop using it themselves.

  20. Hey JD
i think the word “nigga” is disrespecting a whole race. there is nothin positive in it. but the problem is that this word is used in urban language too often. it became normal that black people said this word. for me it is even crazy that we have to say this race can say this word and the other race cant. we are all humans. if u agree that we are all the same, how can anyone in the world give himself the right to disrespect humans?
a big role in this conflict takes the hip hop business. i am from europe and learned english with hiphop. it was a usual used word. so much songs included the word “nigga”. usher did handle this very good. i nearly never heard him sayin this word (except in “u dont have to call” and “confessions remix”). so what i want to say. JD U ARE A LEADER. STOP SAYIN IT (because i heard u usin it often in ltl) KIDS FOLLOW U. THEY WANT TO BE LIKE U. BE A TRUE LEADER AND FORBID THIS WORD IN LTL.

  21. DAMN I KNOW I SHOULDN’T SAY NIGGA, BUT IT JUST ROLLS OFF THE TONGUE(SMH WHILE WALKING AWAY IN SHAME)

  22. I dont think there is any problem with using the word, because this is my opinion: This word does not oppress us as a people, if we still believe that this word is the problem than we have not come far at all… I will quote Mos Def “Nigga” is a beautiful word. Paul Dawson says, “Can you lend a nigga a pencil” LMAO

  23. your being hypocritical because you use the word nigga as much as anyone.

  24. ppl gotta understad though the word does cuase confusion amongst ppl about the rules for that world even for the african american. and i agree with the teacher though you hear it in music and amoungst each other the 5 letter word and it influences our speech because we do not understand the history behind it. does it give u more right than the next person to say it? and y?. it shouldnt. would every aferican american sue each other for saying it? no. my view is that regardless of the person and the 2 different words they shouldnt b used

  25. Lol the boondocks used this on “the s-word” episode JD. U need to watch that shit cuz it basically repeats this news cast. lol

  26. I would have lost it in class in HS……. Knowing how I was in HS, I would have gotten expelled…….. But yeah shit sucks…….. The Teacher knew better; but chooses to act like this. Maturity of this Grown ass man is less than this child.

  27. Forget all the folks who are shocked or surprised that you (JD) are against the use of the word… If you are willing to make a stand from this point forward to stop consciously using the word. If you are going to advocate against the use of the word go hard at it. The past is the past, we can’t change the past. It is our responsibility to make changes in our lives when we realize that the time to change has come… So if it’s that time so be it. But if you make 5 more albums using the word nigga… Then you ain’t really about making that change.

Now this video would not be a problem for most black folks if the incident happened outside of a school and he were not white. But it does illustrate a debate which has been brewing for the last 10-15 years. We can not use a word and expect that the rest of the world will not want to use it as well… What we do as African Americans sets trends around the world. You got Japanese kids break dancing, Europeans rapping, and Africans combining rap with traditional African music… And we got the whole world using the word nigga. I think if some celebrities saw more of how people live in other countries when they go on tour they would change some of the images they portray on screen and in lyrics. I have been to Korea, japan Europe and Africa and I have been utterly embarrassed by some of the stereotypes picked up by foreigners about African Americans, from black celebrities. Like Chris Rock said keeping it “real” is sometimes “keeping it real stupid”

  28. [New Here DONT Diss my language Im from oversea Germany]
well i have no words 4 this vid right there dude is obviously confused.
i dont get how people these days cant understand how it feels when the N word is being popped out like that.
well yea i’m one of the blacks who daily use the word but this lil boy called jonathan mccoy (youtube him if u dont know him) made me think about all that ish.

  29. If you want others to not use it then you shouldn use it point blank.

  30. I THINK THE WHOLE THING IS KINDA FUNNY BCUZ THE WAY WE USE THE WORD IS THE SAME WAY HE USED IT… JUST BCUZ HES WHITE IT CHANGED THE FACT.. BUT IN A WAY HE WASNT WRONG BCUZ HE WASNT USING IT IN A NEGATIVE TERM HE WAS USING IT LIKE US NIGGAZ DO.. LOL!! NAH BUT ON A SERIOUS NOTE HE SHOULDNT HAVE SAID IT PERIOD AND I THINK THE SUPSPENSION WAS FAIR AND THE TEACHER PROLLY WONT SAY IT AGAIN.. FOLLOW ME ON TWITTER.. @TLEboy

  31. was he wrong… yeah. is he a racist… i dont think so.

  32. rofl!!!

“Can you lend a nigga a pencil” *dead*

  33. ARE WE STILL HAVING THIS CONVERSATION? IF YOU HAVE SUCH A PROBLEM WITH IT, STOP SAYING IT!!!! IT’S LIKE, WHY WOULD “BLACK” PEOPLE WANT TO CALL EACH OTHER A DEROGATORY NAME LIKE THAT? PEOPLE DON’T WALK AROUND CALLING EACH OTHER PRICKS AND BITCHES. common sense

  34. I THINK ITS WRONG WHENEVER ANYONE USE ANY WORD OR PHRASES 2 DEGRATE ANOTHER HUMAN BEING. PERSONALLY I LONG 4 THE DAY THAT THE WORD NIGGER NOT HOLD SO MUCH POWER. THE BOTTOM LINE IS THAT 70% OF HUMANS USE CURSE WORDS OR FOUL LANGUAGE EVERYDAY. U KNOW THE DIFFERENCE IN SOMEONE SAYING THOSE THINGS IN EXPRESSION COMPARED 2 SOMEONE TRYING 2 DEGRADE U. EVEN IN SAYING THAT WE MUST REALIZE THERE IS A TIME AND PLACE 4 EVERYTHING. AND SCHOOL IS NOT THE PLACE 4 THAT KIND OF LANGUAGE ESPECIALLY COMING FROM A TEACHER. IF ME AND MY FRIENDS R HANGING OUT AT HOME OR IN THE CLUB THERE IS NO TELLING WHAT WORDS WILL COME OUT OF OUR MOUTH. BUT IF WE ALL R GOING 2 BE ON OPRAH OR AT A FORMAL FUNCTION WE WOULD KEEP IT REAL BUT ME AND THOSE SAME FRIENDS WOULD NOT USE THAT LANGUAGE. ITS NOT SEELING OUT, ITS COMMON SENSE AND SELF RESPECT. FINALLY I’LL USE AND OLD CLICHE “IT’S NOT WHAT PEOPLE CALL U, IT’S WHAT U ANSWER 2 THAT COUNTS”. I DONT MEAN TURN A BLIND EYE BUT LEARN HOW 2 BEAT PEOPLE WITH INTELLIGENT RETALIATION INSTEAD OF IGNORANT RETALIATION. THATS HOW DEMINISH THE IGNORANCE AND SHOWCASE THE RISE OF OUR PEOPLE’S STREGNTH AND INTELLIGENCE.

  35. DAMN I HAD A TYPO WITH THE WORD DEGRATE IT SHOULD HAVE BEEN DEGRADE. DIDNT SPELL CHECK B4 SUBMITTING.LOL DONT TALK ABOUT ME. YALL KNOW WHAT I AM SAYING THO. I I LEFT OUT THE WORD WE IN MY LAST SENTENCE THATS HOW ‘WE’ DEMINISH….. SO EXCUSE ME.

  36. If you follow me on twitter you know I’m a white guy from my photo. What you don’t know is who I associate with. I’ve graduated from Texas Southern University and every one of my close peoples is black but I don’t condone the word being said by white people and sometimes other races depending on how hard they use it. I don’t say it and never do or will. I feel that it hurts the perception of the black race a great deal because while in college and to this present day (Obama) there are quite a few males and females that are balck that labeled wrong. Every race has a group of people that do it in for all of us. I’m keepin 100 here and I take no sides because I am not allowed to judge anyone only god has this write. Was the teacher wrong yes reguardless of the atmosphere. I feel that the world as a whole needs to begin to work on an understanding instead of fueding all the time. It isn’t going anywhere no matter how hard we try so why not come to an understanding rather than fighting over it.

  37. To clear it up before I hear this he tryna be black bullshit, I choose to hang out with the guys I hang out with. As an athlete in basketball no less the white male is becoming extinct and or has a chip on his shoulder about not playing behind a black. That’s a cop out for being a suck ass. So, no I’m not tryna be shit but me, my peoples have been my peoples since I was the 1st grade.

  38. I’m a college instructor and by far the teacher was wrong. I understand he probably became frustrated with students because sometimes students can be difficult to handle, but that is no excuse for the teacher. He acted just like a kid and not a grown adult.

I agree with the other lifers, JD and the Oceans crew–you guys use “it” in your daily vocabulary so I do think if you all lead by example then these younger generations who look up to you would stop using the word as well. They will follower your lead more than teachers, politicians, ect.

I found it interesting that the main reporter covering the story was a black woman. So basically they made the black women do the dirty work.

  39. Who the heck is TD the author of this blog ?

  40. @casarae, There were 3 people covering the story and 2 were black, so I’m sure they program director didn’t make the last anchor take the story if it wasn’t hers to begin with. To add my two pennies to this “controversy” I’m amazed at how so many of you Black Americans use that word like it’s nothing. Even in public! I’m Black from Central America and we are up on all the shit that happens here in the U.S. and we wouldn’t dare utter that word around other black folks or even at home! I do admit that once I came here to the U.S. I definitely tried to “fit in” like any other teenager and started using that word among my friends until an older Black woman, a complete stranger, schooled us on the meaning even if it’s misspelled.

From that point on, I correct any child or teenager I hear using it because I know what it sounds like to other folks who are not black and are wondering why? This teacher was wrong, and if the students in the school are using that word, then they should be CORRECTED IMMEDIATELY! WE REALLY CAN’T MOVE FORWARD AS A PEOPLE IF WE CONTINUE TO KEEP OURSELVES BACK.

  41. LMAO! ROTFLMfAO! Man, America was founded on racism…. Isn’t it ironic that the reporter of the story is black? This shit is hilarious to me. I feel like this…. It is what is it, unfortunately, but whatever. I use the words “nigga” and “bitch” as often as saying the words “and,” “but” and “the.” Yet, I am an education African American female. I attend a large white university with only a 2% African American student body so I know when and when not you assert my “blackness.” (i.e. saying “nigga” to a white teacher and/or professor is inappropriate.) On the other hand, I don’t have a problem with who says the word because like I said, I say the shit faithfully…. However, I’ve never been called a “nigga” and felt fear nor heard hatred. When I do and have, perhaps I’ll feel differently but until then, it’s whatever. As for the teacher “being wrong…” I don’t think so…. Matthew 12:34 says “….out of the abundance of the heart, the mouth speaks.” His wrong, in my opinion, is not what he said but rather the intent behind saying it…. And with that being said, we can only take it at face value. Seems to me, he was trying to be more funny than hurtful…. and my mama works in the school systems so I heard all the inside shit from her. Plus I went to a black ass high school so I know how students are. I’m willing to bet a large sum of money that Ke’Shawn… random: my brother’s name is KeShaun…. did, in fact call that teacher a “nigga” first. Then once the teacher said it back, ol dude played the victim; calling the news and shit. Why the hell was he “hanging” outside of the teacher’s classroom anyway? Oooo, my black people…. Lord, have mercy on us!

    Nisha
    XOxo

  42. “we can’t change the world unless we change ourselves”
    Biggie Smalls

    simple as that.
I’m just a normal Taiwanese dude and that’s the way I see it.
It’s never too late to change.

  43. PRACTICE WHAT YOU PREACH!

  44. WOOOOOOOOOW I didn’t know that this actually happened I just thought the people from The Boondocks made it up,that sh*t is crazy……….wow….

  45. I don’t use the word. It irritates me when I am in public and I hear black men and teenagers calling themselves by that name and the white people surrounding them are just as embarrassed, perplexed, and annoyed as me–a black woman. The teacher is an adult and should have known better regardless of what they students call one another.

  46. If you walk in the hallways of a high school you will hear the N-word so much that it will make you sick of it. In Houston,TX the word is said so much in the schools that I was shocked when I heard Mexican students saying it as much as Black students to each other. But I am pretty sure it is in other cities and states as well. The kids have no respect for themselves or their teachers. But it is true. The word needs to go but as everyone says practice what you preach. Because I sometimes say the word and it’s rare but I do say it.

  47. Honestly, put the word DOWN…bury it! DEAD IT! It’s time for black people to understand the IMPACT of the word…the meaning is the meaning(ignorant, inadequate or not able)! Just like a lil baby, whatever you tell it…it believes..because it has not been taught other wise. Over 400 yrs an entire race has been told that what it was, and if you look over the course of time, in a lot of ways it has been proven true. From the breakdown of the black family to the over-whelming AA’s that are locked up. We can all make arguments as to why some of these things have happened, yet I’m speaking of terms of what you call someone. It’s just like calling a kid “bad” or saying to a child “you going to be in jail before you know it”, and that kids hear it enough they begin to believe it. But we act as if we try to put the word in a different context that somehow changes the meaning, yet it still means the same thing. Kill the WORD along with all the stereotypes that come along with it.

  49. You now what. This is an ongoing issue I feel is going to be an issue for centuries to come. I agree with almost every ones comment on here. Especially the ones saying that it’s kind of hypocritical. I aint gonna lie, but this word slips out a quite a few times out my mouth. I mean, It comes out like “nic”, but still…from watching this clip, it does not seem like this teacher was using it in the way we’re accusing him of. I’m pretty sure the kids there are saying this word like they say “like” in a sentence. If we mean nothing by it when we say it, then why isn’t it believable for us that a white person is meaning it in the same way when they project it in the same manner. Now, of course if it is projected like.” go back to you’re coon hut you fuckin nigger”….then yeah, that’s some racist shit. Or…” you’re nothing but a fucking nigger”….those ways are being used racially. I’ve herd Philippine, Mexican, and Indian people say it to each other and blacks and there was no problem. It’s only when a white person is saying the word we get mad.
We have to understand that the white race has said these things in the past and meant horrible things behind it. This generation isn’t using it in that way, unless they’re being raised up in a racist environment. I mean..come on, If your white homie , who you’ve accepted in your black group of friends is like your brother/sister and he or she says it along with your black ones, you know they don’t mean it in a racist way. I think it is a privilege issue. Our ancestors had none back then. So it seems like we want the control that they had. And if you think about it…it’s only for the word ‘Nigga”. What about the other racially offensive words towards other minorities. Why aren’t we fighting to get those words eliminated as well. So in a nut shell, let’s either eliminate it all together or stop using it and complaining at the same time about who can an who can’t. That to me is some ignorant “Nigga”shit. And it will only continue to portray us as such if we keep having this ridiculous argument.

  50. Should the power be placed in the word or the statement behind it ??????

  51. I don’t like that word at all. Alot of my friends (and we are black but it doesn’t matter) uses it all the time, but they know not to refer to me as they “nigga”. To each it’s own, but I feel alot of emotion, and struggle behind that word, whether it be used in any way “nigger” or “nigga”. My people worked to hard to be considered differently, and no matter who uses it, I look at the word as negative. It has become a common word among our culture, as well as others cultures. I remember in high school going down the halls hearing asian kids like “nigga this, and nigga that”. I was shocked, and I would even turn around to them sometimes and say “Excuse me, can you please not use that word!” and they would be like “Oh my bad, my bad” but I would also say the same to my own race. It’s not cute, but I hear “nigga” so much on tv, in music, and in everyday life to where hearing it come out of people’s mouth is second nature to me now, I just refuse to use it. For instance I hear you say it all the time JD, and sometimes I think “Damn can he use another word?” but I know that it is just apart of your vocabulary now, and I’m sure almost everybody around you uses it too. I don’t think it’s right for any race to use the words “nigga” or “nigger”, because if a black person called another black person a “nigga” we are supposed to take it as not being offensive, but the minute another person outside of our race calls us a “nigga” (like the teacher from the video did) we tend to get offended. The word has the same meaning no matter who’s mouth it comes out of b/c the word stands for something that was not at all positive to our people, especially back in the day. Using the word “nigga” in our culture, is only giving racist people more ammunition against us. Not only that, but I think it confuses the hell out of some other races. Hell white people hear us using that word so much, they don’t know whether it’s acceptable or not to openly use it. Iv’e seen people get highly upset at people outside of the black race that use “nigga” even in what they consider to be a jokingly way, some of us (black people) feel it should only be spoken by our own people, but what do we expect. All races down the line were taught that the “n” word was not to be spoken, but what is one to think when the “n” word is heard all the time, especially heard coming out of the mouth of the race that was and still is considered to be the “n” word by many people? I don’t think the usage of “nigga” will ever go away, just like the usage of “nigger” will never go away, but I for one am a strong believer of never using it.

  52. listen check this out to yalll out there….my name is SHO and i am more than a up and coming artist. i am the artist that the majortiy of you will grow to love. all you have to do is click my name and listen to the music. if you dont like turn that shyt turn it off and let me know …i take all critisicm and run with it. i love what i do!! and ma job is to get you to love it to….so come check me out id appreciate it….

  53. “I Put the ‘H’ on it to emphasize its NiggaHHHH!…you know,niggah, niggah this…..niggaaah Pleaaase…Can you lend a niggah a pencil?”

  54. If that word is never used again will it bring racial equality in this country?

  55. This word has such conotations and its bring bringingthe young Black generation down as they use it and dont really know it! but say it enought and it rises up history that shouldnt be brought up again and never should have been… I dont think the teacher was wrong.. I think he brought up a very valid point.. if it isgoing to be used in his class by others why cant he use it and stress the point just how much in music and everyday talk this word need to be laid to resst peacefully and Im tired of hearing in rap music Hate it! Despise n think very little of the rappers who use it all the time when they know better dont we all… Parents teach your children well… Bill Cosby really has alot of good to say about the family structure and its about time that we alllllllll listen .. Love and Peace CV

  56. 57. JD….Think of it like this….Michael Jackson made it clear when it came to reading tabloid news….”It’s junk food”…..Yeah junk food taste good, but is it good for you?…Overtime….it will be bad for your health…

I heard people who lived through the segregated era where they had to use “colored only” facilities…and those facilities were not sanitary.

Hatred is a contagious poisonous disease….no matter what you hate…hate will eventually kill you…mentally, physically, and emotionally.

  58. Well JD, you say it all of the time…are you wrong?? What’s the freakin difference??

  59. i saw this same shit on boondocks 2…i thought they made it up….but fuck all the bullshit that nigga was wrong 4 calling that nigga a nigga..white people know not 2 use nigga down here in the south cuz they know they gon get a kunta kinte nigga as whoopin

  60. He said it so many times because he thinks he can and his right…ooooo that pissed me off…How is such an ignorant individual a teacher.

  61. @Couture…why do we as African Americans degrade one another with that term over and over again? I am asking, once again, what is the damn difference? We as black folk, make it okay to throw that term around casually, we have no right to complain.

  62. JD i’m sorry, but i had to laugh at this fool because i don’t see how his stupid ass became a teacher. If lacks that much common sense then how the heck is he teaching? This is why the American education system ain’t worth nothing now.

  63. I’m in the Education field and we are taught from day one STANDARDS..

When you are in the classroom or around students there is are certain standards we as teachers must follow, no exception to the rule..Period…Point Blank.

When I’m out in public and my students see me, even when I’m out with my family..I have to be on my best behavior or I’ll be out of a JOB. There is no way I would call or even say the “N” word around students reguardless if they use it. It is a time and a place for everything, when you are a teacher. Students look up to educators and we are the ones that set the standards for our students. That teacher knew what he was doing, he was talking down to that young man, bottom line. I don’t care how he is trying to dest it up..wrong is wrong..

  64. that shit reminded me of an episode the boondocks had called the s word but i guess i’ m wrong to and i’ m black and i do use the word i know i need to stop using it though cause seeing videos like this get me to think about what i’ m saying

  65. I tapped this out on my phone but it didn’t post, let me try this again.

JD, did you really just say we need to stop using the word “nigga”? LOL!

I don’t give a damn what the students say around this teacher, he shouldn’t have used the term. Not only because he’s white but because he is a teacher and he is supposed to set an example for his students. Of all the negative things he hears these children say to one another he chooses to repeat “Nigger”?

I can’t stand for people to say that blacks use the term so it’s ok for everyone else to use it also. Like Paul Mooney says “Everyone wants to be a nigger but no one wants to be a nigger”. Everyone jumps at the chance to be a nigga because its so cool, but when it really comes down to being a nigger no one wants any part of it. Don’t tell me what words I can use amongst my people, because you haven’t gone through what we have gone through. I don’t mind blacks debating it amongst ourselves, but no one else has any right to weigh in on how, why or when we use the term. I don’t care if we are being hypocritical because it is what it is. Same way you some call family members out of their namee, but you have an understanding with them and no one else can do it. I’ve grown up around all races, religions, sexual orientations, you name it. Every group uses derogatory terms and sayings amongst themselves (though not as widely as blacks) and I’ve never felt the need to join in the “fun”. Because it’s about respect, I don’t understand their world enough to think I have the right to do so.

I use the term as a derogatory term, never use it as slang, because like Chris Rock says “There’s niggers… and then there’s black people” (seems the comedians got it right with this one). I’m grouped in with the niggers by outsiders, but real black people know what I mean when I call someone a “nigger.” It may not be right but sometimes you just can’t find the right word for some people.

  66. Yo JD
I believe this man needs to be banned from teaching at any school he is/was wrong and way out of line for calling a young high school kid a nigga personally I fill in this whole is that he needs to get out dodge for what he did and suspended the teacher for 10 days I fill that the school system itself should’ve made that choose for him 10 days should’ve been changed to never ever teaching in any school in america if it was up to me I beat the teachers ass J/k but the point I’m trying to make is if a white person called a black person a nigga they would take that offensive in many different ways but if we (black people) call a white person “WHITEY” or “RED NECK” than they’ll let it slide and pretend like it didn’t or they didn’t here it.

  67. As black people, seriously, we are the ones keeping this word in circulation. Whether it’s spelled with an “ER” or an “A” the meaning hasn’t changed. Its a derogatory word and that’s all it is, no ifs ands or buts about it. I see people commenting on females calling each other bitches…..where i come from a “bitch” is a female dog. Its world wide…go open your dictionary and look up the meaning. Those who respond to it may feel its means nothing because in “slang” the meaning has changed..that’s pure nonsense the English language hasn’t changed. A dog is dog no matter how many different ways you spell it. Same applies to “Nigger”. People have died to put that word to rest and the American culture more than others keep it alive, but yet still black people want to get offended when its said in their presence by a different race. Smh..when will we learn.
Go Look up the meaning of “Nigger” and see if that’s what you want to be defined as. Stop proving our ignorance as a race and don’t let the fight that was fought for our freedom be in vein over a WORD

  68. i think people shouldnt take the word as serious as they do maybe 50 years ago yeah. When it was used back in the day is was a way to digrade someone. Since people, the world, and the word has evolved it has changed into something that is totally different then what it used to be. I think there is a time and a place to use the word and i dont exspect white people not use the word when they are using it in a socializing manner if you hear the word constanly its sorta of hard not to start using it. I think the teacher wasnt wrong because he probably only used the word because he thought is acceptable being a word used in society the way it is.

  69. First of all I don’t think you guy’s are paying attention to detail at all, at the top it plainly says BY TD, not JD. I maybe wrong but Jermaine did not post the video. Eitherway the word NIGGER use to be in WEBSTER’S for young folks ask your parents. LAZY, SHIFTLESS, GOOD FOR NOTHING, JUST A NO GOOD PERSON!! How did this become the term to describe us ? I use to work on ships and there is a piece of equipment used to pull the ropes back on board the ship after untying. Guess what the name is a NIGGER HEAD the firsst time I heard this terminology I asked the question WHY this name, please explain i asked . All they could manage was some bullshit about the male slaves were strong so they just named it that. Globally speaking the word has followed me to SPAIN one of the most liberal places in the world (you can grow your own) . I have heard whites use the word and even my african brother’s who are just trying to relate to me because they can see that i am american, they say WHAT’S UP MY NIGGER! It makes me cringe because it is a word that i never use period because people gave their lives in a struggle against this word so to speak. It is disrespecting what they did for us, but what in the past do you guy’s really respect. If money is not in it , fuck that it is not important all. Also there have been many forums concerning this subject in the past with rapper’s justifying their use of the word saying it is a term of endearment and the way it is spelled makes a difference. Tell me tell me who came up with this and sold it! My wife is from Italy and we live here in Spain we have 2kids and they know they are black and already they say we are going to college in the states and they are only 5&7 yrs old. The other day we were in the car and i was playing MY MAN TPAIN 3rings and one of the skits came on and EDDIE was doing his thing talking shit but when he said the word NIGGER they just fell out laughing and asked me what the word meant all I could say was it is not a nice word and if someone says it to you let me know. What else could I say to them? I know maybe i should not let them hear it some of the music they hear but it is only music and this does dictate how you live your life. Yes black people should try to stop using the word but it will never happen. MAYBE IF JAY Z SAYS IT PEOPLE WILL STOP! PUN INTENDED. THE WORLD IS WATCHING!! JTEEZY WHAT’S UP!!

  70. kudos to boondocks – he called him a nigga- DEAL WIT IT. his homeboy prob called him that 20 times the same day now cause a white man calls him that he is offended? get the fuck out here!!!

  71. i loe how aaron mcgruder took the exact copy from this pkg and used for the boondocks episode?

to answer the question should we as black people stop using it yes. will we as black people stop using it no. is that fact wrong yes.

every one has to take personal responsibility on this one. having al sharpton and the rest of the civil rights leaders call for all black people to stop saying nigga/nigger is not the answer. they just get the side eye and the comment “them niggas buggin.”

for example you and johnta say it all the time. have you ever counted how many times you say it in one LTL episode and go damn i gotta stop saying the word nigga.

i doubt it. if so then my bad.

but my point is is that i think as black people we grow up hearing it all the time so it becomes ingrained whether we want it to or not. we learn that the word is a racial hurt and is used to hurt and that if a white person said it to us we’d be pissed and ready to fight. and at one point there was a law “the fighting words doctrine” that backed up that logic.

that has since been repealed and yet if we are called nigga by a white person we probably still want to fight because there is nothing you can say that will be equivalent to the hurt inflicted when someone outside the race calls you a nigga.

personally i’ve been called a nigga by white people never close enough for me to swing but it pissed me off and yet i say the word daily.

it’s a catch 22. one of those binaries of life.

there’s no real answer to this outside of personal responsibility.

sorry for the essay that lead to nowhere but that’s my opinion.

  72. think it all depends on who you say it to but just the fact that its a teacher its just wrong, even if he just tryin to go with the flow he know that people may have a problem with him sayin nigga so why even go there. now that he got written up he learned his lesson????? personally i dont think NIGGA is all that bad we subsitute meanings of words all the time like bitch which means a female dog, hoe which is a garden tool, ass which means a donkey, and nigga which means friend, person, etc….it just depend on how some was says it and what they mean by it and i guess the teacher was usin it because its slang not to offend the kid…but he is a teacher so hes wrong

  73. HOLD UP JD!!!!! lemme find out you didnt even watch my LIVING THE LIFE video response to 4LIFEENT! You put that joint up on your favorites and everything! I had clips from this teacher choppd up in my response!! If u really aint watch it lemme send it to u cuz I took it off youtube.

  74. I put it back up so you can watch http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tVhIc7dcXVA

  75. but why do you use the word urself JD ???

  76. I think the teacher was wrong, absolutely wrong, no matter what he intented to do, if it was just a way to say dude or whateva, he souldn’t have said that. I don’t believe him when he claims that he just used it like everybody else uses it, cuz he’s a teacher, his pupils are not his friends, so I really think that he was insulted the young man..When we know, we study what black men experienced and lived for so many years, when we take a loot at the men who fought, who gave their life to not to see things like that happen, it’s absolutely obvious that this man shouldn’t have said that, he shouldn’t be teaching anymore..

  77. LMAO @ THA TEACHER AND THA REPORTERS..1ST OFF THEY DESCRIBE THA STUDENT AS A FOOTBALL PLAYER,ROTC ECT..AS IF NOT BEING ACTIVE IN SCHOOL WOULD BE ALOT MORE ACCEPTABLE BEING CALLED A NIGGER..AND THA TEACHER CALLING THA STUDENT A NIGGA AND CLAIMING THAT’S WHAT HE WAS TAUGHT TO SAY…RRRRIIIIGGGHHHTTT OR MAYBE THA TEACHERS DO SIT IN THA TEACHER’S LOUNGE USING THA WORD? WE ‘LL NEVA KNOW BUT HE SHOULD’VE USED A BETTER WORD TO SAY OTHA THAN WHAT HE SAID..

  78. The teacher was wrong. Period. There’s no place for that in school regardless of whether it has an “a” or “ah”(as he put it) or an “er” at the end. Makes no difference. I call my girls “b*tch” but would I expect and educator to use it with me as an alternative to calling me “young lady”?? Absolutely not, totally unprofessional regardless of whether you mean it as a term of endearment or racial slur.

  79. “I used an H to emphasize that was NIGGAHHHHHHH!”…..(my mouth drops to the floor as I weep for brothas today).
    Shawanna

  80. no i dont think he was wrong would it have been a big issue if the the teacher was african american..probably not right .so now since the teacher is white it makes it a big issue but because hes white. to me nigger and nigga are two different words …the word nigger is harsh to here outta anyones mouth and it means what it means that word should be no more. now the word nigga to me in my head when i think of it means =boy …………when i saw this video it reminded me of my teachers you know they put up with our shit and we put up with their shit u know …we fuck around alot specially ppl that dont give a fuck. maybe the boy was just messing around. maybe the boy on the video was lying . now he beeing on the football team would make him popular so maybe hes classmates lied to cover up from saying the word too.

  81. LMAO THIS SHIT IS FROM THE BOONDOCKS!!!

  82. J.D. I am glad you posted this. I think we should stop using the N word as well, but I listen to your blogs on youtube all the time and I hear you use the N word over and over. I am not trying to call you out, but I think it would help if some of the black celeb made an effort to stop using the word.

I feel as if the word carries a lot of bad history, and when I confront my friends on the matter they claim that they are just expressing themselves. J.D. it would be A HUGE PLUS if you dedicated one of your living the life blogs to this. Hopefully, you and the ocean seven crews will have a round table discussion on this matter.

Oh yeah, I love the whole ocean seven thing you guys have going on , and the mixtape is nice. Keep doing your thing playboy.

    A.D.

  83. People pay attention! This post was was done by TD not JD. Is TD Tyrone Davis???

  84. imma keep this simple. no i dont think that he was wrong…and yes we a “black poeple” should stop using the word n”nigga” but that is our word i feel. and it is not fair that we should have to stop using that word because other poeple use it out of contant other than we do. that like some hispanics call other eacother pisas or other lil inside but that doesnt give us the right to call them out of their names. we use it for what “we” use it for and if we are not making it like everyother word we use like some do…it should be fine.

  85. J.D. , this seem to be a very hot topic, and I think it is something you and the guys should way in on Living the life. I would love to hear what you and the rest of the guys think about the use of the word. I for one, do not believe the word should be used period. It carries so much hate, and how can we expect other races to respect us when we dont respect ourselves. I havent used the word in a min., and I am hoping that rappers and other people will help put a stop to the usage of the word.

  86. Racism needs to be a thing of the past and United for a thing of the present and future. United we stand and divided we fall and our country isn’t standing so strong right now.

  87. First this post says it’s posted by TD not JD. Who is TD? Yes, it’s JD’s blog but that doesn’t mean others don’t post here for good conversational topics such as this.

Second we’ve grown entirely too damn comfortable. NO ID said it in an interview I did with him 2 years ago and I totally agree. He said our parents (from 60 and 70s) taught us well not to act or speak any kind of way in certain company. Now a generation later uses nigga as a new damn pronoun open for every one to use. We disrespect ourselves by using it in our music and every where else so why shouldn’t white folk use it too in reference to us. We set the example.

I understand the argument surrounding semantics, tone, and meaning and it all comes down to when we as black folk stop seeing ourselves as Niggers we’ll stop using it as a whole. Just like Ghetto. If most knew how ghetto really came into being we would understand it didn’t start with us and wouldn’t be so eager to own it.

And that’s a whole ‘nother willie lynch argument. Historically ownership of land, patents, even our own bodies was taken away from us. Now we’re so eager to own something, we take ownership of shit we shouldn’t like the word Nigger, streets and hoods which gangs kill each other for, material shit that doesn’t appreciate but depreciates and ignorance. None of which brings us wealth nor empowerment as individuals nor as a whole. My people shall perish from lack of knowledge and wisdom.

Nigger or Nigga? WTF? Whether in the field or in the house we were still slaves and slaves still mentally since we’re having this conversation. And yes a room full of black students can exist where no one says Nigger or Nigga. The fact that one commenter thinks it can’t says he’s still in a nigger mentality. I’m a nigger, you’s a nigger, wouldn’t you like to be a nigger too? Naw nigger I wouldn’t.

Personally, have I used nigger ? Yes! In mixed company, HELL NO! But I’ve changed my vibe and am trying to take it out of my daily vocabulary period. It’s sometimes difficult but I’ve got plenty of other words to choose for any situation.

Lastly, the Jews, Japanese, Armenian, Koreans, every other culture got the message and their communities prosper, when the hell will we? And if you really think JD is using nigger every where he goes, look beyond this site. Read his words on Huffington Posts, check his interviews on mainstream sites. It’s not there. So why is it used so much in his own productions? Only he can answer that.

  88. Aye JD!,… this actually was used in Boondocks cuz! When Riley was called a “Nigger” by his teacher HaHa! They used the exact same story line…. Youtube it!!

  89. YE I THINK HE WAS WRONG BUR I DONT THINK HE IS RACIST BUT STILL I ALWAYS WATCH LIVING THE LIFE WITCH IS GREAT NO DISRESPECT NOT TO GOOD WITH MY SPLELLIN LIKE BUT HOW CAN U SAY YOU AS A BLACK PERSON SAY YE NEED TO STOP USING THE WORD NIGGA WHEN YOU USE IT ALL THE TIME WITCH YOU DO AN ALL OF YOU OCEAN BOYS DO LIKE THE OLD SAYIN PRACTICE WAT YOU PREACH INIT IF YE GOT ANYTHIN TO SAY WITCH YOU PROLBLY WONT CAUSE YOU GOT LOADS OF PEOPLE TRYIN TALK TO YE MAIL ME BACK LAD AN ON SUTTIN ESLE YOU NEED TO GET YOUR OCEAN BOYS SONGS OUT OVER HERE IN BRITAN AM FROM LIVERPOOL JUST IF YOU WONDERIN IAM WHITE AN I HATE RACIST LIKE FUCK
