The Rap Game, Lifetime’s new hip-hop reality series, is the network’s first unscripted urban program centered around up and coming young artists.
The show, which debuted in January, was created by hip-hop powerhouses Queen Latifah and Jermaine Dupri and has already drawn in over 1.5 million viewers so far.
Known for his years of contribution to former young rap artists Bow Wow and ’90s duo Chris Cross, Dupri does what he does best: developing the artists sound, emerging their writing capabilities and preparing them for the cut-throat hip-hop industry.
“I feel like it was time, it was made for me,” Dupri told REVOLT on why he decided to mentor the young talent.
“It’s kind of hard for young artists to get seen, because all they really have is YouTube at this particular moment in time,” he said before adding, “but they pay way more attention to music than artists did back then.”
The season one finale of the rap competition airs tonight (February 19) at 10:00 p.m. ET on Lifetime.
