Scarface Talks About Def Jam & The Power of Having That Engine Behind You 2013

HAS THE SOUTHERN HIP HOP CULTURE REACHED A PINNACLE WHERE IT DOESN’T NEED THE NOD OF THE EAST COAST MAJOR HITTERS, RECORD LABELS ANYMORE? I THINK SO, BUT BEING FROM THE SOUTH MY OPINION IS BIAS, I GUESS.

  1. Man the dude putting out these records are always going to need a major behind them we saw that with the Dondria project. Now personally, I went out and purchased 3 of her albums and gave 2 away just because I respected what was taking place but in the end….So So Def/Epic….. I’m back…. On that independent tip YOU have to pay for that Radio… YOU have to pay for that promo… and that makes a big difference…

I think an independent could still win, but it will take a STRONG CEO to pull it off, not someone that can’t handle their money, and that’s what it comes down to. A MAJOR label that has an Accounting department which will limit the risk and how much money it can blow. It’s hard for a small company to compete, and if they are to win, they better have the BEST talent around them and not just YES MEN.
