Sony’s Tap 20 is an impressive machine. Of course I say that after only spending about 30 minutes with the tablet like device, but from what little time I did have with it, I was impressed with the screen’s accuracy and responsiveness, as well as the Tap 20′s overall speed. Despite boasting a 2-hour battery (or so), the Tap 20 isn’t exactly portable as it weighs 11.5lbs, and nor is Lenovo’s recently unveiled Horizon table PC.
The Horizon boasts a massive 27-inch touchscreen, weighs about 17lbs, but get this, measures just 1.1-inches thick. With that kind of svelteness, I would have hoped for it to weigh closer to 10lbs, but given it’s all together big footprint, it’s a bit of a moot issue. That said, there is space for an i7, 1TB of storage (or a 64GB SSD), Nvidia graphics, 8GB of RAM, USB, HDMI, a 6-in-1 memory card reader, and a battery that is said to be good for up to 2-hours of use, much like the Tap 20.
As you’ve probably sussed out, the Horizon Table PC is a Windows 8 machine, though Lenovo is including something called the Aura dual moon UI that is designed to lend an assist managing media and games. Up to 10-fingers can touch the screen simultaneously, and needless to say multigestured commands are available.
You can expect the Lenovo Horizon Table PC to start shipping this summer with a starting price tag of $1,699.
