Buffett And Gates Encourage Billionaires To Donate At Least Half of Their Fortunes

I ALWAYS TALK ABOUT CONVERSATIONS I WISH I COULD HAVE BEEN APART OF, IE WHEN MJ AND QUINCY WERE DOIN “OFF THE WALL” AND NOW SEEING THIS WOW!!!!!! LIFERS IF YOU WERE A BILLIONAIRE WOULD YOU GIVE AWAY HALF OF YOUR FORTUNE ?

warren buffett and bill gatesFortune’s Carol Loomis reports that Bill Gates, Melinda Gates andWarren Buffett are making a plea to the nation’s richest citizens. They are asking the nation’sbillionaires to pledge at least half their net worth to charity, in their lifetimes or at death. Gates tells Fortune that he thinks 50 percent should be the “low bar” and that people should actally givemore. Buffet also reaffirmed his own philanthropypedge saying that he and his family decided to “keep all we can conceivably need and distribute the rest to society, for its needs” giving away more than 99 percent of his wealth.
And they aren’t alone. Fortune says that other billionaires who have already committed to at least a 50 percent pledge include Eli and Edy Broad, John and Ann Doerr, H.F. “Gerry” and Marguerite Lenfest and John and Tashia Morgridge. The Fortune article goes on to say that after the first billionaires’ dinner there were several more dinners set up by the Gateses. Part of the goal was just to talk about giving and why some people don’t give as much as they could. In the article Melinda Gates explains that the first part of the pledge campaign is just to help move people forward in the direction of thinking about giving and what good their money can do in the world and to plan ahead. The initiative is a long-term one and given, the potential money at stake, one which has the power to reimagine the social landscape.

  1. if it was really goin to a good cause to people that will put food n help people out then yes but first i would have to help the ppl in my own family n country first…but yes i will always give to ppl that r in need…thats what living the life is all bout

  2. Definately…We were raised to give as much as you can to help people who need it. But besides that, you will still have enough $$ 4 two/three generations just living off of interest and investments. Especially if you not tryna ball and livin like Buffet who still lives in the same house he bought in 1850…LOL

  3. honestly yes…..especially if i had their status (buffet & gates). if they gave away 1/2 they would still be billionaires.

although it has always bothered me with some positions in the US such as VPs of particular companies that literally have to do NOTHING but gets paid crazy money while the economy dies. i’m sure it’s well deserved for several but my mind cannot justify some of these paychecks to certain people. alright i’m goin to fill up space for my ranting LOL

btw….why are you going to be in the vegas the day after i leave. i’m gonna be there all weekend JD. so disappointed lol j/k

  4. The mindset of the wealthy vs the mindset of the rich…Wealthy minded like Buffet and Gates understand wealth isn’t really about hoarding money and keeping it for self. Get rich or die trying people make money, buy shit that depreciates or waste it on escapisms, and don’t invest, nor educate themselves on how to become wealthy. Ever read Deepak Chopra’s 7 Laws of Spiritual Success or The Secret? One of the facets shared in both books is to attract money but also once you have the money you want to then give to those in need. The sheer act of giving returns the blessing to you sometimes ten-fold. Again, these men know the money will come right back to them on some level. The traditional church calls this tithing.

Bishop TD Jakes said recently in a sermon I saw that it was easy to tithe or give when it was only $20 but when he began making millions it was harder to give. Even he got caught up in “this is too much money to give away. Lord you understand…I got plans 4 this money…”

So to answer your question. YES! Without question. Of course, that will be tested so I’m preparing myself and my mind for when the abundance comes. But the beauty of it is, I can do it NOW. We can ALL do it now on some level We don’t have to wait until we are millionaires/billionaires to help people.

  5. Amen @ hollywoodlvwork I concur… In giving away we will receive more! it can be a hard principle to practice but it has allot of reward.

  6. JD, yes, i would , I think even if your not a billioniare you should give as much as you can to a cause that you believe in. Seeing people like Gates and Buffet really makes me want to do more also.. Now imagine if the big celebs did the same, they would have an impact on there fans to give also.. When I was growing up and remember that Michael Jackson was one of the few that you heard that gave lots, that had a huge impact on me.. I wanted to do the same.. and have and will continue, maybe not with money but with time helping. I think as we move along thru time and change celebs will do the same..

  7. absolutely. its only right

  8. Now this the things we should be talking about in our daily news. You wont find out about this unless you just so happen to hear about it. Once we as a nation realize that all we have it not our to have, we will see that if we share. We would be a lot future as a nation. To have something, means you permanently will hold on it it. So since you die, permanently does not exist. So with that being said. We are suffering as a nation, because we have become selfish. Start to share all you have, and you will see how we can grow as a nation.

No room in life to think your the only on in the room.

No room in life to think you are the only one to exist.

No room in life to feel that your heart beat moves a nation.

No room in life to at all, to feel you are all alone.

    No room in life….

    by Ralph Aldridge.

  9. I don’t mind giving. I give to the Ronald McDonald house charity regularly since I was a teen.

  10. I feel like it’s the principle of seed time and harvest. Something my fam and a lot of cats talk about where if you give, it always comes back. When you plant a seed you get a tree of some sort. The rich are rich because they understand the Bible actually says give and it will come back to you. so the idea of giving and or seed time and harvest, is continual and biblical. i.e. it’s works! lol

  11. but to answer your question… yes, I would give it away! lol (smh my bad, money!)

  12. if i had money like they do..absolutely! let me help as many people as i can…like MJ did!

  13. REAL TALK IF I WERE WORTH A BILLION DOLLARS I WOULD DONATE HAVE OF MY FORTUNE TO CHARITY. YOU HAVE TO REALIZE IF GOD BLESSES YOU WITH A BILLION DOLLARS YOU MUST HAVE DONE SOMETHING FOR OTHER ALONG THE WAY. SO WHY NOT CONTINUE TO DO SO. AND ON TOP OF THAT IF YOU DONATE HALF ($500 MILLION) OF YOU FORTUNE I’M SURE YOU’LL GET BACK ABOUT 50%-60% OF IT BACK IN TAXES IF YOU WANT TO LOOK AT IT THAT WAY. NOW HOW MANY BILLIONAIRES WOULD GIVE AWAY HALF OF THEIR FORTUNES TO CHARITY IF THEY WEREN’T TAX DEDUCTIBLE.
