MALIBUJULY copy

I was in malibu today reflecting on life and enjoying the beautiful day, when my
lawyer hit me talking about a bill that was suppose to be paid to Beverly and
ozone magazine by def jam a year ago. A simple situation that didn’t have to go
this long. It made me start thinking about how many relationships we allow
niggas to ruin. We being the labels that these guys doing nothing hide behind.
My relationship with jagged edge was damage if not ruined by the fuck ups of
def jam. Me and Hot dollar, the whole Greg Street shit was started by def jam not
telling him the truth and making me look like I had something to do with there
decision to not put his records out and him believing that. I wonder how many
others have been down this road. Relationships ruined at the hands of somebody
else.

  2. I fell ya, JD. its amazing how so many other people have power over your life and u sometimes not even know it as it is going on. The influence of others that seem to be painting a nasty picture of you always seems to be the ones that make that nastiness look nice to where it is believeable and the weak minded falls for it! Situations like these are the one’s that made me look at life in a very different way to where i trust no man but God and put Him first while He work out vengance on my HATER.   7. Sometime you have to take matter into your own hands. Maybe you need to hired someone to make sure all lost end is completed and done.

    Sometime you need to change the game and get someone that can be your “Follow through”.person..you go to a meeting your “Follow through” person need to come back with the closing deal information or any loose ends. Even get the follow through person to check back ever so often to make sure everything has went through and has been paid has plan. Etc etc…

Even in personal relationships one “friend” can tell you something, you react instead of taking 5 minutes to think about the junk, and it totally blows another friendship up. I know you are refferring to the music industry, but I was feeling that on a personal note.

    My dad used to produce music back in the late 60’s early 70’s..it was worse then. If you think about what’s happened with Michael, ALL those relationships that shouldn’t be like they are…YOU still have time to straighten the shit out…JUST DO IT!!!

The truth is a powerful thing. but at least its the truth. honesty and integrity is almost completely dead. if people would start telling and being their truth then it would give others a fair playing field. that doesnt mean that everyone will always like the truth but at least decisions can properly be made. i u make a decision based off of a lie then ur whole life can be altered, sometimes in a very bad way. i was in a relationship and found out the person i was with lied 2 me 2years ago. if i had known the truth at that stage of our relationship i would have got out of the relationship then. my life would have gone down a different path. unfrotunately we humans are not perfect and as fucked up as shit can go in any relationship, everything happens 4 a reason. sometimes we don’t understand but if we stay strong minded and always live our lives with the effort of honest prosperity then the answers unfold and u say ‘thats what that shit was all about’ or ‘thats y that had 2 happen 2 me’ so that u will be ready 4 the next part of ur journey. i appreciate u jd.

  13. JD I don’t know the particulars of your situation but I can relate to black people fucking things up for another, instead of trying to learn from them or just respecting them period. I keep up with the site and i really enjoy it alot, sometimes I shake my head in disgust to some of the things I read. Opinions are like assholes (we all have one) so it is what it is. It seems to me that the music industry needs a BAILOUT, STIMULUS or something. Not for money just reorganization somewhere down the line things have gone awry and nobody wants to fix it. As long as i get mine, is the attitude it seems. To much bickering over dumb shit that has nothing to do with music at all. The day of the true struggle to make it musician has been replaced with JUST GIVE ME 1 HIT and i’m okay. I understand this because with the right song you can make alot of money for the rest of your life. I’m glad that I grew up when I did because life would be miserable if MARVIN had beef with TEDDY or the BARKAYS did not like CAMEO. Your dad played with the BARKAYS so you understand my feeling. I know i am just rambiling but AS A CONSUMER AND A MUSIC LOVER when does it end. To me if a song makes your ass move your feet and just have a good time who cares. JD is it true that JAY Z and AL SHARPTON stoppped CHRIS BROWN from performing the other night. I read this and said they would not do that, NOT THOSE TWO. You guy’s have a youngman who made a horrible mistake (even though I think she punched the shit out of his ass) off the rip and he flipped out. Should he pay for this for the remainder of his life? The pic is hot bro, the houses across the street from me are on the cliffs . All i can say is AMAZING is the feelin you get looking at the sea from that vantage point. Keep grindin man!!

  17. Its weird how other people ruin relationships. I did not have a relationship ruined in the music business, but I had a friendship ruined by someone yesterday. The friendship was already on the rocks due to other circumstances, but the person that I am I gave them another chance. I should have known something else would happen again. I received a call last night saying that all contact between my friend and I would have to cease, because his girlfriend said he could no longer be friends with me. I was a little upset because he did not stick up for me and say we are just friends. I just don’t understand how he was willing to give up a friendship for five plus years for a relationship with a girl for one year. I feel like once again the friendship was betrayed. I guess some people just never know what they had until its gone. I hate to see people learn the hard way.

Unfortunately in life there seems 2 be people who live to mess up other people’s relationships, but at the same time u have 2 know the next person, i mean really know them 2 where u ask the questions b4 u believe the lies blindly…sometimes we are too arrogant or have too much pride 2 appreciate the relationships we have built that we are ready 2 believe the lies rather than the truth….at the end of the day u can try and salvage the friendships that u can and pray for the ones u can’t…it’s life and sh*t happens, but u gota dust urself off and keep it moving.

  19. its good that you finally realize these trues because thats why the industry has went down so much ….we all know certain reasons way certain records arent pushed or released on some labels is really personal….other labels just want good music no matter where it comes from…others need to get paid from all sides or you get know love everybody knows the truth they just cant say it now ….but check on the birthday sex guy and others bank accounts in a few years we all know they will never recoup and we know why…..and in a few years they wont even own their own music just because they werentt prepared to battle the system…….if we teach each other the truth about the game everybody would be happy…….lessons learned and more to be

  26. I found your website Jermaine after reading your article on Michael Jackson on the Huffington Post. I read your ruining relationships post, and you are so right! Wow. I then read back to some of your other posts and you are a very good writer; very insightful and thought provoking.

    I am sorry for your loss of Michael Jackson. Having lost both my parents 7 months apart last year, my dad from Parkinson’s disease, and my mom from undiagnosed-until-too-late brain tumors, I feel your pain. I can only feel better knowing all are in heaven.

  34. i know exactly what you are saying. i’ve had several relationships ruined by other people’s bullshit…but the thing is, if those people believed the bs and now we’re no longer chillin’ maybe they weren’t meant to be in my life for the long haul.

    some people are only meant to b around u 4 a season…maybe they’re full of shit themselves..that would be a great reason…for God to show me…I never needed them…lesson learned tho…now it’s only me im believing…for God has always been leading!!!

  36. In this day and age the concept of a label is irrelevant. Artists need to go back to being artists and engage fans directly. Collaborate with producers and split the profits. Once companies like Tunecore complete the development of transparent accounting systems this will be greatly simplified.

    In my brief interaction with the major label system I’d have to say that dishonesty is the norm. A house built this heavily on dishonest communication cannot stand. The internet will disintermediate them out of relevance. The catalogs however will keep them in business. Everybody “wins”

  37. Remember JD everything happens for a reason that sometimes you truly don’t fully understand until years later. People come into your life for a reason or a season. You’ve heard that before, and it so very true. A third party in my life messed up what I thought was a genuine relationship between me and a dear friend. It took some possessions of mine to be stolen seemingly by a member of the 3rd party for me to see just who I was really dealing with. That’s a personal story, professionally working in Hollywood you already know how shit can go down. Sometimes you’re left asking what the hell just happened or left handling a situation you didn’t create. Still I’ve learned not be angry for too long, but to become enlightened. Learn from the situation. Those who are REALLY down with you, for you, are the same when some drama goes down. And even if they leave you for a minute, they sometimes come back. Stepping away from the situation can often lead to clarity for all involved. That said, let the anger go. Pay the bill or do whatever and move on.

  42. Jd you did a smart move for leaving def jam especially since their was no mutual understanding or relationship. Alot of these major labels have alot of issues and most of the time the ones that causing the problem are the ones working in the industry but not in the public eye. The majority of them are the ones that focus on how they gonna make money off the artist and not with the idea of having a mutual business relationship. On top off that there are some who feel they might not have the talent but they can try to destroy someone else artistic work.

    I’m not an expert of how the industry is but just in general in life yes I have have been down this road, relationships ruined at the hands of somebody else. Alot of people post shows different ways to look at things and to add on, life consist of lessons to be learn and no one is perfect.
