  1. Swagger is dying among the younger generations…I think most folks in their late 20’s are frankly tired of that word since its saturated every form of media over the last few months… But the corporate marketing machines and older folks are just catching on… Companies take so much time getting things to market that by the time they are on to the latest new thing, its already dead or dying. Look at these clowns at Old Spice, forming a whole marketing campaign around the word swagger and nobody, I mean nobody who knows what swagger means buys Old Spice.

I think that the speed at which trends spread via, songs, music videos, internet, radio, TV, magazines, etc… caused the to flash and burn.. meaning we get hit hard with new sh*t for a couple months then everybody gets tired of it and start to get annoyed with what was hot just a few weeks ago. In the old days before urban culture was massively profitable to media outlets and marketing departments it took months to years for a trend to spread nationwide, now it takes days/weeks.

  2. Swagger is as swagger does. It can’t die b/c it’s been made into a epitaph that translates into “incredible presence”. Which is something many have and many don’t. Mine’s thru the roof, fortunately. Don’t believe? See for yourself.

    THIS iS AN EXCLUSIVE.

  3. we have swag overkill. It’s on it’s last leg. I think the iron Pendant speaks volumes. In my Intynational voice That’s not it.

  4. To be fair, that line has been around for a few years now. Matter of fact they are based out of Japan, where the word proapably doesn’t have so much around it like it does here. I think lupe had a subline underneath them a few years ago.

  5. SWAGGER IS A NATURAL THING.EITHER YOU HAVE SWAGGER OR YOU DON’T IT’S IN YOUR DNA, HOW YOU WALK, TALK AND CARRY YOURSELF. IF YOU PUT ON SHADES, A FRSH OUTFIT AND JEWELERY DON’T GIVE YOU SWAGGER. IF YOU WAS A LAME BEFORE YOU PUT ON A BIG CHAIN YOUR GONNA BE A LAME WITH A BIG ASS CHAIN.
PEOPLE THAT HAVE A STRONG NATURAL SWAGGER FOR EXAPMPLE. T.I., JAY-Z, MONICA ,DENZEL KEYSHIA COLE,SHAWN CONNNERY AND EVEN THE BOY JOHNTA. THESE PEOPLE HAVE A NATURAL PERSONALITY THAT MAKES PEOPLE LISTEN AND LEARN OR EVEN HATE ON EM.
SWAGGER IS WHEN YOU WALK IN A ROOM FULL OF STRANGERS AND ALL ATTENTION IS ON YOU AND PEOPLE WANT 2 KNOW WHO YOU ARE WITH OUT SAYING ONE WORD!!!
SWAGGER IS WHO YOU ARE NOT WHAT YOU CREATE!!!

  6. The words swagger is going to die soon. I mean the word is used entirely toooo much. Its apart of everyday vocabulary, its apart of music……Its getting on my last nerves… I do agree that it is mostly dying with the younger generation because most of the older people are just starting to use the word. Sooner or later there will be another word……..and swagger will die.

  7. I think “swagger” in its’ self has pretty much been around for as long as we can remember b/c it’s a way to describe someone’s style, etc. However the word SWAGGER is a trend, a fad, either way, pretty soon it will be considered throw back. I personally believe that the use of the word would have been a good marketing tool….Last Year. In Branding, a company should think Longevity….And I just don’t think that’s what this group was thinking about…perhaps they should have used the name for a Collection…using it for the entire line….seems risky to me….I’m just saying.

  8. I hear it every single freakin day and I don’t even say it anymore.. It’s dead to me.

  9. I agree with Lady. Swagger has been around for years. Just like we used to use stuntin’ back in the day and then that came back too. Swagger will get recycled and come back again…

  10. swag⋅ger   /ˈswægər/ Show Spelled Pronunciation [swag-er] Show IPA
–verb (used without object) 1. to walk or strut with a defiant or insolent air.
    2. to boast or brag noisily.

–verb (used with object) 3. to bring, drive, force, etc., by blustering.

–noun 4. swaggering manner, conduct, or walk; ostentatious display of arrogance and conceit.

    Origin:
    1580–90; swag 1 + -er 6

As you can see it’s been around since the late 1500’s, so it isn’t going anywhere anytime soon. I actually liked the word but it has been over used and is now like nails on a chalkboard to me. It will drop out of the younger generations vocabulary soon (hopefully). I think that line will be over because it will be seen as corny and those accessories look corny too. WTF is that iron pendant about?

  11. swagger is not a new word… its in the dictionary already, we know the definition of “swagger” but the topic is how do you feel about the word, and its current incarnation.. how long will it last? is it dead? do you like the current use? etc., etc. , etc.

We all know what it is, and we should know that is not a new phenomenon according to Webster’s the word has been around since the year 1596.

    swagger intransitive verb1:
-to conduct oneself in an arrogant or superciliously pompous manner ; especially : to walk with an air of overbearing self-confidence

  12. Dang.. Minnie beat me to it.. LoL

  13. To me, a sign that a word used by popular culture is on its way out is when it appears in a hot song. Once that happens, its just about over. In regards to popular culture, words get recycled over the years…

  14. If you look up the word swagger in the dictionary…you’ll see that it means something very different then how most people use it.

  15. swag·ger [swággər]
vi (past swag·gered, past participle swag·gered, present participle swag·ger·ing, 3rd person present singular swag·gers)
    1. strut around: to walk in an arrogant or proud way
    2. brag: to talk boastfully about personal accomplishments

(noun) arrogant walk: an arrogant way of walking or behaving

  16. Swagger means basically the same thing… being arrogant, confident, being conceited.. that’s what the dictionary says and thats basically how it is used in slang today. Maybe not word for word but the meaning is fundamentally the same.

  17. its used too much, too many songs about it. there are prerequisites to swag. and some people shouldnt be using it at all. they think they have it but they are only in the developmental stages

  18. Oh yeah…. my thoughts… lol

Ummmm, I feel like it’s just like strut or prance or “sashay” ….. it’s the same thing as greeks strutting at a club party or models walking down the catwalk….. I think it’s just that some that the hip hop culture has reinvented….. it’s been taking with a innovative approach.

  19. SWAGGER is dead..but SWAGGA is still alive..Swagga is something u either have or u dont! Being a female i can see a guy walk up in the club and not be the best looking guy in the club but if he has a unique Swagga then i would go for him before the other guy..To me swagga is confidence..assurance..that shyt is attractive..Jd i remember u were on here saying something about how ur daughter was getting taller than u, i said dont worry about that what u dont have in height u make up for in Swagga..u definitely have it…Lil Wayne, LL they all have swagga…Swagga is not dead

  20. SWAGGA isnt arrogance or over confidence…Swagga is knowing how much confidence to have and how to carry it!

  21. I wanna say that swagger or swagga is not played out… I just think that a lot of people are using the word wrong… Almost everyday I hear people use it wrong.. i.e. “Girl He look good, but he ain’t got no swagga.” I think that it is stupid to say someone ain’t got swagga because swagga is how you carry yourself… So shouldn’t everyone have swagger… People need to start using it the right way and stop saying other peolpe ain’t got swagga.

  22. i Agree the word Swagger is dead but havin Swagga or a ” Swag” will never die. I hate hearin the word cuz ppl who are lame use it and it takes away from the meanin. I feel like if you have a swagga or you Swag is on point, ppl will notice. You aint gotta tell me, and if you feel you have 2, then you dont have one. but yeah the word is dying, soon to be dead.

  23. Swagger as slang is played out. My understand is Swag was the word for free gifts at celebrities events like the Oscars or Grammies. Over the years those gifts got to be really expensive and high end with everything from diamond watches and jewelry to gift certificate for high end clothing stores. These Swag bag could be worth like $20,000 – $50,000. Then people started use it to describe their clothes like check my swag. Then it turn into all the variations of the word like Swagtastic meaning I’m a stylist, debonair individual.

Swagger has always been around especially with those John Wayne movies. John Wayne swaggers into the room. LOL!!!

It’s funny that Fresh is on the come back. LOL!! The high top fade or variation of it is on the way back with all these cats rocking the mo hawk now. LOL!!! You cut the back off the mo-hawk and you are back to the early 90s and late 80s.

I think the worst thing that happen to hip hop is the tattoo fad. A lot of cats are going to regret that shit a few years from now. Especially the cats that got really tattooed up.

  24. whats good

2 me, theres nothing wrong/bad with word swagger……it sounds nice…but 1 thing I cant understand…why every mouthafckin artist must have that word in their songs…what you think, you gonna hit #1 spot if u put that word in your song…suddenly every rapper has so much swagg…ridiculous

  25. The word swagger is going the way of many other black popularized words (ie. bling bling, fresh, ballin, ect.), to the masses. The words probably has always been around, most likely originating around the southern-east cost, but first started getting popular amongst the urban community when TI released the song “Swagger Like Us” (produced by Kanye). After that media got a hold of it, and every American added “swagger” to his/her vocabulary. So like everything else, when shit ain’t exclusive, shit prity much transforms into corny.

  26. This Label been out for a minute…I believe its from Japan. As for as the word swagger I believe its just a fad. The new word out in New York is “Wavy”, it pretty much replaced the word swagger recently.

  27. umm Everybody does not have Swagga!

  28. Franklin nailed it on that head

swagger or swag is how you carry yourself, and basically your personality in your style,I dont think its gonna die because it has been here forever

  29. I definitely feel that swag should be and is over. And for the people treating it as if it is here to stay seem to be more so capitalizing on the fact that some people aren’t letting it go. Like having a label called swagger…just simply over kill. The word is old very old its been around for decades…and whats unfortunate is that the people jumping on it as if its brand new and killing it. Like Lady said a few line up…its a risky tool for trying to garnish success over…because the people that they seem to be marketing toward are the ones who are caught in the “fad” of an old word…

  30. And another thing…. I just thought about this. Hip Hop is on that other shit anyway…. This is why Blacks and Latinos are making fucked up scores on the SAT/ACT…. because the hip hop culture takes real ass words, misspell them then make up their own definitions. So you get to the test and be like “Oh, I know this answer….. Oh shit, the answer ain’t on here.”

For example… Ludacris, Fabolous….. ludicrous, fabulous…. of course, “swagger”… conversate is not a word… the word is converse. This was a while back but I remember when I was in middle school everybody was hyped up on the word “crucial.” For some reason everybody thought and used it in the context of “overexcited” (i.e. crunk), not nobody knew that the damn word meant important or decisive. Shit, I can’t even lie, I’m a senior in college and sometime I find myself putting Z’s on words that don’t belong…. ex. buzy & songz

Somebody needs to take initiative and do something about that because I grantee that if Ludacris and Soulja Boy and Busta Rhymes and whoever else gets together to make a SAT CD it’s gonna sell… Why not do something productive and eliminate stereotypes/ statistics at the same time?

    Sorry for the rant. 🙂

  31. rap lexicon is so transient…

it’s only hot for like half a second..not even a minute… it starts at the TOP and by the time it get to the bottom it’s played out.

At the same time, some words last forever ( like fresh ) so we’ll see how swagger does.

It’s an english word so it’s not going anywhere and the company can still use it long after rap has moved on to some other half-baked word or other ( rememer Gwap )SMH

  32. We need a list of played out rap words though from like late 70’s to a few years ago… all the shit we couldn’t WAIT to say to cuss someone out or feel hard when we said it… LOLS

  33. Swag isn’t going anywhere. and the people who have a problem with the WORD, or bascially hateful or pessimistic individuals who have nothing better to do with there time so they nick-pick about dumb shit like the life span of the word ‘swag’.
Swag is a state of mind and a confidence someone carries with them no matter where they go. to be honesty, a lot of people need to find there enter swag cuz the haten shit is getting out of hand.

There goes a word thats life span should be non existent. HATE. someone tell me when is that one going to die?

  34. I don’t think that word could ever die. Swag or Swagger is just the way you carry yourself, some people have great swag sum dont. and ladies is always like “i like his swag” or “this dude has no swag”
So Nah it can’t die, its a lifestyle, either they replace the world or sumthing but it styll aint goin no where

Futuristic IS GETTIN USED ALOT NOW LOL N SOME PEOPLE USING IT HAS NO SENCE OF WHAT IT MEANS

HERE IN TORONTO WE GET IT IN THO
SO DJ, YOU NEED TO SHOUT OUT TORONTO/CANADA

  35. so jermain what made you getinto producein and i im produce some body young so hwhat would be the best why to publish his on my label what did you do with kris kross to put them out there how did you publish them

  36. jermaine dupri what made you produce kris kross and im produce a young person so how do i publish and get people to go to his myspace how did you publish kris kross

  37. LMAO @ the comment above. I don’t believe the issue is the word swag it’s the overkill of the word. And honestly swag is not new but because you throw it in every song or on T-shirts and now even on labels its like people are just discovering it, and then killing it. Too much of anything can’t be good. And when people say that the word is over they are talking about how everyone is jumping on it and the use of the word. So at some point swag will go back to where it was before (the list of unused words) people started throwing it around like the newest shit out.

Now watch if some top artist comes out with a song about someone’s aura with a catchy beat, it will be the next biggest overkilled word. Thats the main point.

  38. As for what I feel about the word, it is in the eyes of the beholder, aa well as the person or persons with it. As far as the merchandise it might last who’s to say except the consumer. Always and forevermore FLAWLESS

  39. I think swag is the word of the year. It hasn’t died yet, but it will be dead soon. What will the company do when the word dies?

  40. IM BAAAAAACK! Gotta chase paper still duckin them alpahabet boys! But swag is FOREVER, EVER, EVER EVER! What do you think Pitt, Clooney, Sean Connery, Sinatra and many others possess? What word better describes a man of that caliber and/or stature? SWAGGER! It is what it is! The only people who dont like the word are women who cant pull a dude with any or the dude who doesnt have any!

  41. Yes swagger has been around and people are trying to revive it and personaly from the actual definition it’s not a good thing so if someone has swagger then I would tend to go the other way because they proably have trouble not far behind. example, Chris Brown.
