That is Jermaine Dupri, Express, not Lil Scrappy
Though The Washington Post has been known to mix-up celebrities from time to time, their sister paper, Express, is usually on the ball. Not today though, as the daily commuter paper ran a brief piece about Atlanta-based rapper Lil Scrappy getting in a, uh, scrap with a man named Kenny Rogers (no, not the famous one, but that would have been awesome if it was) at a Georgia gas station on Wednesday.
While the story is indeed accurate, several people on Twitter have pointed out that the accompanying picture is actually of another Atlanta rapper/producer/DJ, Jermaine Dupri, the famed discoverer of backward clothes-wearing duo Kris Kross.
I’s understandable how Express could have made the egregious error. Both Lil Scrappy and Jermaine Dupri have collaborated in the past, and even a quick Getty Images search for Lil Scrappy produces many images of Dupri.
We reached out to Express to see if they are aware of the mistake, but a request for comment has not yet been returned. Update: Express Managing Editor Holly Morris told DCist in an email that they “tweeted a correction and will run a correction in the print paper on Tuesday.”
