WOW!!!!!!!!

This may be unseemly to say, but it’s sadly true: Michael Jacksonmight be worth more dead than alive. Thanks in part to a lucrative new record deal with Sony Music that extends through 2017 and the most successful concert film of all time, Billboard estimates that MJ Inc. has generated at least $1 billion in revenue in the year following his death. Through interviews with industry experts and our own number-crunching, Billboard examines the various music-based revenue streams that have flowed into the Jackson estate in the past 12 months.
Since his death, Jackson has sold approximately 9 million albums in the United States, while the Jackson 5 and the Jacksons have sold about 800,000 units, according to Nielsen SoundScan. Outside the States, Jackson’s album sales for the past year stand at around 24 million units. Based on a blended worldwide retail sales price of $11.62 ($12.30 per unit less mechanical royalties), Billboard estimates that Jackson’s album catalog generated about $383 million in sales.
On the digital side, Jackson’s songs have generated 12.9 million track downloads in the United States in the past 12 months, according to SoundScan. Based on those figures, Billboard estimates that the total number of worldwide downloads is about 26.5 million units, with a value of $34 million (net of mechanical royalties).
Jackson’s ringtone sales totaled 1.5 million last year in the States, with the bulk coming after his death. Digital ringtones sales worldwide are about twice that stateside, which brings Jackson’s global ringtone tally to 3 million. At $2 per unit, ringtone revenue was about $5 million last year (net of mechanical royalties).
Monies generated from subscription services and digital performance royalties typically amount to about one-third that of mobile revenue, so Jackson’s catalog probably generated about $2 million from those streams.
U.S. digital performance royalties represent about 13% of the revenue generated by single track downloads. Applying that rate to global track sales, Jackson’s recording catalog generated another $4.5 million from global digital performances.

Fcuk that! Michael Jackson was not worth more dead then alive.
Who the hell can sell out 50 dates 4 hours and not have a show on the Disney network (except Prince)
No one knows what kind a spike he may have generated after those dates at the O2 Arena
He broke records during his life and in death.
I read he was scheduled to make $6 million per show. That’s $300 million alone for him and it was predicted South London would have generated $1 billion dollars in revenue with all the tourist coming to see his show.
I’m sorry but the beginning of that article is fcuking disrespectful.
I grew up on MJ from Off the Wall to Invincible and it just discredits his legacy. Thriller sold 100 million before he passed not after.
This kind of shyt just pisses me off.
He sold a billion in records sale because he was the greatest that ever did it DAMN IT!!!!!!

No one will ever top that man. NO ONE!
He is a product of so many generations, the missing link between Sammy Davis, and Kris Kross. Showing us that timing is everything..
I agree the beginning of the article is DISRESPECTFUL.

@2damnfunny, they were not being disrespectful… when he was alive he was over $300,000,000 in debt and it seemed as though he had no way of paying that back. That’s why the owners of the Staple Center got together with MJ because they knew his situation and told him he could get the creditors off of his back with this tour. So to say that his album sales would not have sold another 33 million albums while he was alive would have been fair to say. It’s the appreciation of what he’s done that has caused people to go out and buy his albums now that he’s gone. That’s all though, it’s not disrespectful.

Im not suprised MJ was a genius..talented beyond words..i alwaaaaaaaays appreciated him and its sad that in death some ppl appreciate him more..If only he could have felt that love to that extent while he was here..as the 1year anniv approaches i smh @ how crazy it is that he’s not here..He will always be missed..i loved his music..his message and his spirit..Truly the best that EVER DID IT!

I miss MJ, he left to soon, he was going to be bigger after those concerts. He is the best especially all around artist. Today artist don’t even perform, they think they are to cool to dance, most of them just walk around on stage doing nothing.

Damn that’s sad this had to be the outcome to have people listen to him and buy his music makes my heart that the reason why them people killed him is because they knew he would be worth more dead than alive SMDH No one will ever be able to top him ever! He will always be number one I can’t believe in a few days it will be a year I think about him all the time! I just don’t believe it

That comment was and still is disrespectful.
It doesn’t matter what Michael Jackson’s reason were for those concerts, people wanted to see him and the sold out record proves it. I don’t care how much money he owed…that was his business.
His last studio album was considered a flop and it sold 14 million units. New artist are praying just to sell gold numbers.
He was the most successful entertainer to walk this planet and that should be respected.
Through all the shyt he went through, he still sold out arenas around the world.
His fans outside of the United States have always been loyal.
Some of us were always appreciative of MJ before his death but still ran out and bought stuff to fill that missing void.
When Elvis died, people waited years before they said anything that was even considered to be disrespectful about him.
We need to uplift and honor our own instead of tearing them down.

@2damnfunny, I agree that we should appreciate him more… but dont you think you are being just a little bit bias… his death unlocked his true value and I think its fair to say that he would not have generated over $1,000,000,000 while he was alive with where his career was. We all know that he did big and great numbers but the way the media tore him down, with child molestation allegations and face lifts and calling him a freak of nature; all those horrible things was not putting him in great light and with his age it is fair also to say that this was it, which it was going to be… So no he wouldn’t have generated $1,000,000,000 while alive and to say that he is worth more dead than alive I believe is fair to say without being disrespectful.

I love and miss Michael more then words can express. I have never been out of the United States but I was going to London Feb. 24th of this year to see Michael and experience what I have wanted to experience ever since the age of 2. I’m in L.A. right now preparing for tomorrow to go pay my respects to a Man who was more then just an entertainer to me. He was a gift who wasn’t appreciated and when he did start to gain a little appreciation it came way too late in my opinion. He was a wonderful person with a heart that was too precious for the vultures of the world whose only goal was to use him. He was a wonderful father. A wonderful humanitarian and a very misunderstood soul.
Regarding his success after his passing.. Isn’t that what SONY wanted? but I’m not gonna go there…
R.I.P Michael
Love and blessings to his children, Mother, Father and other family members.
