With the 20th anniversary of the debut album Illmatic, a half-hour series project loosely based on Nas’s life as a hip-hop artist in the 1990s is currently being developed by XBox Entertainment Studios. Titled Street Dreams, the project is created by Jamie Patricof and Lynette Howell’s Electric City Entertainment and written and directed by Jonathan Levine. The plot is set in the 1990s in the infamous Queensbridge housing complex, where Nas grew up and evolves around themes like music, family and the ups and downs of the rap game. Nas is involved in the writing process as well as the music for the series while his manager, Anthony Seleh, executive produces with Patricof, Howell and Levine.
