I TOOK THIS PICTURE LAST NIGHT AT THE KERI PARTY. IT LOOKS LIKE THE PARTY IS OVER FROM THIS BUT THIS WAS AT 1:15. THE DJ WAS PLAYING ALL THE RECORDS WE KNOW AND LOVE, EVERYBODY WAS TRYING TO GET IN VIP AND NOBODY WAS ON THE DANCE FLOOR. THIS HAS BECOME THE LIFE OF THE BLACK CLUBS HERE IN THE A. WHERE DID THE PARTY GO? LAST YEAR AT MY SO SO DEF WEEKEND I HAD A SUPER FLY WHITE PARTY, EVERYBODY DRESSED UP LIL JON WAS DJING BUT I HAD TO DAMN NEAR STOP THE PARTY TO GET PEOPLE TO DANCE. IS THIS THE NOT DANCE IN THE CLUB ERA AND I JUST DIDN’T GET THE MEMO CAUSE I’M LOST. MY NIGGA SERGE ASKED ME IS IT THE DJ’S RESPONSIBILITY TO MAKE PEOPLE GET ON THE FLOOR? YES AND NO IF HE DROP THE RIGHT RECORDS PEOPLE SUPPOSE TO HIT IT. SOMEBODY ELSE ASKED IS IT THE BLACK HOLLYWOOD PARTIES THAT CREATED THIS? I THOUGHT THOSE WERE SUPPOSE TO BE THE BEST BUT EVERY TIME I LOOK UP ITS A MILLION CAMERA PHONES AND NOBODY DANCING. IT SEEMS TO ME THESE CLUBS ARE NOW PLACES TO SEE CELEBRITIES, LISTEN TO MUSIC AND DRINK. DANCING AIN’T IN THE PROGRAM LOL. HAVE YALL NOTICED THIS OR AM I TRIPPING ?

  10. I agree but then again what artist are out ther dancing right now? Even in videos people just move no 8 counts or nothing. Videos use to have major dance routines that you would do at the club. It’s also the DJ’s fault too. I was at a CAU Alumni party last year and everybody was dancing but the DJ was on his job and played everything from Rob Base to Michael to Luke the shit that makes people DANCE.

WHAT HAPPENED TO THE GOOD OL DAYS, THE RECORD DROP, U KNOW THE ONE THAT MAKES U SAY “THAT IS MY JAM” I DUDE IS SURELY ON HIS WAY TO ASK U TO DANCE, EVEN IF HE COULDN’T! NOW U GOT FEMALES GRINDING ON EACH OTHER…I GUESS THAT’S THE RESULT OF THAT.

Damn see i have mixed feelins on this. there are times when all i feel like doin is dancin to the point where ill be out there by my self not givin a fuck. and there are other times when i do just wanna chill,drink and listen to some music. Even when i use to Spin at clubs. id always show up about 10 mins before i’d go on, play my set and then chill after i was done for a bit. or id look for some of the fine girls i saw dancing to my music then go dance with them. then there were times when after my set i collected my money and bounced. it always just depended on my mood. but id never go to a spot just to see if id get lucky and meet a star or some shit.

  13. well jd i think it started in 07 i came back to iraq and i took a 1 wk vacation to houston and went to a new years eve party NEW YEARS EVE PARTY NIGGA and i got there and the dance floor was empty i honestily cant even explain it its like its just happend im 30 and ive been goin to clubs since i was 19 years old and dancing was what u do at the club u benn working or dealing wit stress for the week and now u can let it go thru dancing drinking seeing differnt clothing styles and hearing new music from the dj (thats when they too risk and had an real mixing set) then u go home and forget about the week now its like im tryin to see some one famous or i dont wanna sweat thats some bullshit to me i think its because of 1 the dj dont take risk and start platin club banggers and stop playin whats on the radio all the time 2.everybodys 2 focus on vip 3. some people now are crizitizing on how the way people are dancing (why i dunno its the CLUB) but when i saw that shit i stop going cause i love when the dance floor is pack and then that banging banger comes on in the club andf u just lose ur mind so much u inspire other people to dance i miss the real black clubs when we danced

  17. me as a DJ think that it the responibility of the DJ to make the people get on the floor! Here in Germany its pretty easy to make the people dance.. but not if u play these oldskool joints that we love … i dont know why but they hate that stuff! After 1 o’clock people startin gettin crazy here .. partys are great down here but i cant play my favourite music.. thats whats up here in germany! I’ll be this summer in LA to make the clubs on fire.. this is going to be a good experience for me.. we’ll see!

  19. Out here in L.A. its always like that. Everybody trying to Front like they someone. Like they to good to dance and have a good time. When i go to the club i already have a few drinks in me so I’m ready to party and hit the floor. Then Go to the bar re-up then hit the floor again. Sometimes it is the DJ fault for playing some bullshit but then its the people to good to dance.. Or you got the girls Oh I just wanna dance with my girls, then you got the ones that oh I don’t dance, why the fuck are you here?? Take your ass home for that shit.. The only real time you see everyone dancing and having a good as time is in the HOOD ASS Club’s. Where you going to see at least 3 fights in the club and a fight outside the club. And 1 Cat with his shirt off talking about WHO ELSE WANNA FUCK WITH HOLLYWOOD COLE(Andre 3k voice)

This is very sad, Back in the day when Bass was out if you would go to 559 everybody was dancing once them girls got up and start shaking that ass niggas were fighting to get up on it.     Is the DJ responsible I would have to say yes. I hate to give them niggas from up north too much props because I’m straight from that dirty but I went to a party up in NY and the DJ stopped everything until the people got up. Now one thing that nobody has said is the fact the niggas be in the club be frontin and only get one drink and try to hold on to that same glass all night. White people get shots and get tore the fuck up.

    Ok JD here is a test. Throw a party and make all the drinks free, I bet they will be dancing then.. This goes back to my boy Ryhem the Dream which was used by Polow.   23. No, you are definitely right! I am not into the clubs, it is just a place to stand around and wait for someone to buy you a drink. Its like everybody stands in a circle, like we are back in middle school. If you are not going to dance, then leave. My main issue is people don’t know how to just dance and have fun anymore, there is a difference between dancing and grinding. Now, all a n***a wants to do is grind, what happened to just dancing to the music? I don’t want you up on me, I want to feel the music and be able to move, not feel your d**k. Do you understand what I am saying JD? There is a clear difference, but guys are only doing one thing in the club. Let me know how you feel about that.

  24. I live in LA. We see celebs all the time so there is no need to go to the club with your phone out trying to catch a pic. We go to the club to get our dance on. All of the clubs I’ve been to everybody dances and have a good time. I think the DJ plays a big role in getting people on the dance floor. Like you say they play the right records people will dance. But heck if you are drunk you damn near dance to anything. LOL You pay your money or stand in line for the guest list you better dance.

  27. You definitely aren’t the only one who’s noticing this boring ass club epidemic. I was at a club last weekend in Jersey and I had 7 friends with me and we were in VIP. The songs were dope, we were dranking, having a ball. But when we looked downstairs on the main floor there was no one dancing! We were like wtf is going on?! They actually started having lapdance contests with the bartenders and giving away bottles. THEN…people started to dance a little but not like I’m used to seeing lol.

I dont care who is in the club…celeb or not…if the right record is played then im on the dance floor…ill be darned if i pay such and such money to go to a club and sit my azz down in vip…i could have done that ish at home for free ya know…vip is nice and all and i really do love being up there but you cant really get the club feeling anymore unless your out on the floor

Then the ladies who come to dance and are down to earth and not stuck on looking for an NBA/NFL baller (FAIL). So they ruin it altogether…Philly DJs close the party down with hard ass music…nigga slow vibe that shit. DJing should be an adventure…Almost like manipulation. The art form is suffering.   35. WELL..Jd u touched on a real subject…Yes its the dj’s job to keep the tunes hot and its also the crowds job to give some energy back! Clubs arent what they used to be..I remember when we would dance from the time the club opened til it closed…our clothes would be wet!..Ppl are too cute these days..some ppl just come to the club to profile and show their clothes off..Maybe ppl are taking cell phone pics and gawking because the VIP ppl are flossing and painting a pic of this lifestyle that the regular clubgoers want..so the regular clubgoers see that as special!..I think ppl in Vip should keep the dancing coming too. AND men these days dont come up to a woman as much and ask them to dance ..they just stand around and gawk at them and dont open up their mouth. We used to go to clubs TO DANCE and if u met someone special there than so be it..but these days ppl come to clubs to meet someone or to floss..thats the difference.

  37. JD ive been noticing the same thing to as far people not dancing in the clubs but i have 2 say dat it’s not evrywhere that this is happening it just depends on where you go. However the problem that i find today is that people (especially black folks) are gettin’ a little too prissy and think they are too good to dance. But like I said it depends on where you go.

    I don’t necessarily think it’s ALL the DJ’s responsibility too get the crowd hype if you are playing hot songs people should be naturally inclined to dance. But at the same time the DJ should put in a little effort to get the crowd pumped. I personally find that reggae DJs are good at doing this, which is why I stay in Jamaican clubs, and also for the fact that I am Jamaican.

But, it is the DJ’s responsibility to make everyone hit the dance floor. Last time da clubs was really poppin was during the “snap” movement in 2006 .   54. A lot of it falls into the hands of the DJ…if he’s doing his job folks are gonna hit the floor. but if you ain’t feeling it you gonna chill and grab a couple of drinks. Me, personally, I’m not trying to listen to music and drink in the club…i can do that at home…my main goal is to get my money’s worth. So if I feel like the DJ’s playlist is kinda whack, me and my girls are hitting up the booth and requesting some stuff so we can hit the dance floor.

    But JD you are so right about this becoming a growing trend in clubs…Let’s take it back to when it was about having fun and enjoying ourselves…instead of acting bourgeois and harassing celebrities.

  55. WORLD WIDE PROBLEM! I live in London and its so bad that a lot of the clubs have very little dance floors left, it’s all tables & VIP. I spend a lot of time inside & out of VIP’s in NY, ATL, Miami, LA, and it’s the same shit is going on.

    I’m sorry to say but it comes from you guys (the celebrity’s & your music videos) with the help of the media (E channel & shows/mags that follow celebrity’s around) that have put this SHOW-OF LIFE STYLE out there that people want to follow. So now clubs are about what you wearing, what you where drinking, who was there & what they where doing and not about HAVING FUN!

    It’s only you the celebrity’s that can change it, by leading the way and getting on the dance floor… but will you risk lousing you cool!

    Also the music these days is more radio friendly then Club friendly & isn’t as danceable as it used to be!

  66. I honestly think it depends on the club you go to and the event that’s happening that night. If the club is known to have a lot of celebrities there, and it gets a lot of press/media attention, a great deal of people will go there just to see and hang with the celebrities. I don’t go to clubs that often but I was just in one last weekend for my friend’s birthday and the place was PACKED and just about everybody was dancing. There was barely any room on the regular dance floor. VIP was packed too and almost everyone was dancing there too. I will say that the DJ did a good job playing a variety of music, new and old.

And it was packed like a motherfucka…So like always we was poppin bottles in VIP and it was these two chicks just tryna sneak they way up there shit lol. Even if a scuffle break out towards the end of the party the DJ stop for a min and then the person get help and then the DJ continue to spin the record so the party can end,as they say the show must go on lol. So JD if you are ever in NYC during the month of JULY go to Gator Productions All White Party at the Roseland BallRoom. (And Party and Bull Shit, And Party and Bull Shit lol).

I agree with the people who said it has to do with the DJ.You used to have the veteran DJ who knew how to mix it up all night and talk on the mic to keep everyone on the dance floor no matter what celebrity was in the building but now you have these 30 dollar bar tab DJs that the club owner hires to cut cost.

    Some of these new cats on the tables have no clue.They just mix records together because the bpms match and not because the vibe is right.Also they really have no knowledge of the classic records that get people on the dance floor.

Ppl always like Indiana is lame… to me the ppl make it lame… they rather be on facebook/myspace/twitter… as they are in the club instead of having a great time! Look I throw my hair in a ponytail, I don’t wear a perm so my stuff sweats out do you understand me! I put it in a ponytail and dance my but off, fortunately I don’t have to wear makeup so I don’t have to worry about whats drippin’ down my face while I’m dancing. But these chicks in Denver, some are too prissy to dance worried about how they gon’ look when the light comes up. Not me and my girls we go out to dance and have a good time and that’s what we do. We hit a lot of clubs that have a mixed crowd because you get more people that are there to party.

I’m glad that I have the type of friends that could care less what’s goin on in the club/at the party….we are still gonna do what we came to do….have fun! It’s a VERY common thing now (with mostly guys) for ppl to stand around and look at other ppl in there all night. I can understand to maybe step back a sec or two to check out the scene to see who you may want to approach.

People from Atlanta don’t trip about seeing celebrities…because we always have. Before the world came to know how much talent we had down here, I literally was standing next to and partying with the likes of Usher, Outkast and even you. Remember Plush? You and the SoSoDef street team was always there, but yet the dance floor stayed packed. I think it has a lot to do with so many new people moving down, trying to make it somehow. My friends and I don’t even go to the clubs anymore because of this. My crew is super-cute, but we DANCE no matter whose in the building. But now the Atlanta club scene looks more like a Still Life art museum with pretty people and music.

  106. I just moved back to the states from France (and Dubai) and this ish drives me crazy. I love ATL but the fact that people don’t really let loose in clubs bugs me. I like to dance, get crazy drunk, and just overall have a good ass time. After all, why else go to a club?

    I find that people are far far too inhibited nowadays. Everyone is worried about what the next person is thinking about them. Hell, do you! For me that means warming up the dance floor. Oh and I think there is WAY to much emphasis placed on VIP.

    DJ’s- PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE get back to the formula of warming the crowd up, dropping a banger, taking it back to floor fillers and anthems, and WORKING THE CROWD. Too many Dj’s don’t pay enough attention to whats working and whats not!
