WHATS UP LIFERS HAPPY FRIDAY!!!!!! TODAYS QUESTION IS ABOUT THE MTV HOT MCs LIST. MY QUESTION IS HOW DO YOU FEEL ABOUT EMINEM NOT MAKING IT? I PERSONALLY THINK THE LIST JUST LOST ITS CREDIBILITY BY NOT INCLUDING HIM. NOT ONLY DID HE MAKE A ALBUM THIS YEAR BUT THAT ALBUM OUT SOLD 75 PERCENT OF EVERYBODY ON THE LIST .SERGE WAS TRYING TO EXPLAIN TO ME THE LIST AND WHY THIS HAPPENED BUT TO ME THIS IS WHY SO MANY PEOPLE KEEP SAYING HIPHOP IS DEAD. WE HAVE NO RULES AND THE FIRST RULE SHOULD BE, UNDERSTAND THAT THIS IS THE RECORD BUSINESS (KEY WORD BUSINESS) THE END RESULT IS TO SELL RECORDS NOTHING ELSE MATTERS. IN THESE BAD TIMES OF THE RECORD INDUSTRY HE SHOULD’VE MADE IT FOR THAT FACT ALONE THAT HE STILL HAD THE POWER TO MOVE 600K RECORD HIS FIRST WEEK. ANYWAY YALL ALWAYS ASKING HOW I FEEL SO THERE YOU HAVE IT LOL!!!!!

  1. I dont see how he didnt make it. Em has always put out great work. Even tho this was his first album in sum years the fans still supported him. I love his verse on Drake’s “forever”. I think that it is a dishonor to him to not be included. Like you said this is a business. It should be about playing favorites. The numbers should count for something and unfortunately they didnt this time.

  16. 10 people cannot decide the hottest mc, no way no how. They aren’t even really relevant (with the exception of Sway who kind is sometimes). But putting people like Rick Ross in there c’mon. Last time I checked soundscan Rick Rossmoved what 300k for his last effort. Album sales should determine who’s hot not ringtone sales, not radio play (BDS spins still dont = legit album sales) , not beef none of the above. they should come to the table with a nationwaide voting system and give there opinion on what the people voted. Sadly MTV now runs on only 5% of its programming content thru music video programs(sucka free countdown) so how can they have a voice in hip hop?

The staff lacks knowledge of what and who is hiphop. Personally I feel lyrics objects hot and lyrics is hiphop and style and swag is an accessories to lyrics or better yet hiphop!Em on my list when it comes to the real hiphop!!!!!!!!Mz.Mo

  23. its a couple rappers who shoulda made it starting w/ T.I. he gets the jam of the week every time he drops a vid from paper trail, NASIR his album was unique and still had his hardcore flavor that we r use to, LUDA cause hes a problem whenever he steps to the mic, TRIGGER no he doesnt have a rap album and yes hes a rb singer but the youngster can go hard, and yes EM he is literally a prototype for so many aspiring wanna be rappers

  28. Maybe it’s just me but, I think Eminem definitely belongs on the list. For one Em is an MC’s MC. He knows how to take a concept create a song and make each verse build to get the big picture. His best album to me is still the Eminem Show. Since then he hasn’t really showed progression as an artsit but, more as a producer. There are at least 20 Mc’s in the list who struggle with substance in their songs. I think he is in a great place to be higher when Relapse 2 drops. Jay-Z ranked #1 without an album in two years but, if Drake would have had an album out I’m not sure if Jay would have ranked so high. Even Wayne was out voted. Which is really hard to believe since kids run Hip-Hop sales and downloads in 2009. I beleive that Eminem will help bring the MC back to the game next time around and the ringtone rap will eventually die out and we all will have to get back to the basics. There is nothing wrong with conceptual music as singles!

  30. I agree with JD 100% on this whole top 10 MC list shit! How in the hell do you do a list like this and leave eminem out? He sold more albums than any other MC this year, lyrically he is one of the best in the game, if not the best, and name me one other rapper that is more anticipated every album other than this dude. Then MTV tried to justify their reason for leaving him off the list by saying that he dropped his album and then he disappeared for a couple of months. Eminem is a fucking superstar, he dont have to be on television everyday and do interviews all the time to be relevant. Man what other superstars do you see everyday doing interviews and all over the internet other than when they are dropping an album or movie or something, nobody! As far as I am concerned that list was bullshit! I only agree with about 5 people on the list and the other 5 did not deserve to be on there, but just my opinion.

  37. Thats the problem with lists like these is you will never make everyone happy. I personally don’t like eminem’s music, so for me him not making that list will not affect my sleep at night. The people make these lists dont define hip hop ,the aritist and fans do, so if fans love eminems music they will always go out and get his music or if people like kevin federlines music him not making this list either wont stop them from getting his music. and to me saying hip hop is dead is like a fad , hip hop is not dead , there are quality arists that make quality hip hop. there are just so many hip hop artists out there that the masses often times pick out crappy artist. to each his own i guess

  49. I don’t really care about Eminem. I just know that and am that Jay-Z made the list. For all the Eminem fans out there, I’m sorry, but that’s just the way I feel. I feel that Eminem is just “messed-up”. He throws blows at everybody and makes raps and songs about them. At the end of the day it’s not about the people you “blow on”, but how many records you sell. When he started talking about Michael Jackson like that… Then that’s when I started losing respect for him, because he didn’t even know the info. But this is my opinion.   51. I think the list was actually okay. We have our opinions but its not about selling units its about who’s HOT. And I assume who is HOT Right Now. And to be honest I wasn’t really feeling Eminems latest cd. I didn’t even hear alot of people talking about whether they liked it or not. Like Jay-z whether they liked it or not they talked about it. The biggest thing they said about “M” was having another mans ass in his face. I think he is one of the dopest ever but to me he isn’t one of the hottest right now even though he he killed it on the “Forever” Song he had the best verse but thats just my opinion on the list categeory.

  52. I understand that selling records is what this business is about but just because you sell doesn’t necessary mean you are hot. Eminem has that many fans to sell 1.4 million. It’s like Jay-Z. Is anybody surprised he went platinum already? No. Jay-Z has a million fans that’s going to buy anything he does just like Mariah or Usher. Eminem didn’t beat expectations though. The two hottest things Em did this year was Forever, a Drake track, and that Mariah diss track.

    Em should have been on the list but maybe like number 10. I will say this though, that whole list seem about the last 4 months than the whole year. T.I. basically own the first 4 months of this year and he wasn’t on the list either.

  54. First, let me say I don’t know much about hip-hop these days. I’m on the outside looking in.

    I read A&R Serge’s comment and if the list was created based on BUZZ, then it would kind of make sense for Em not to be on the list. But if BUZZ is the main criteria for being on the list, then it has no credibility. Especially, considering the fact that Em didnt need buzz to outsell many of the artists on the list. I don’t get the point of the list. We could just hop on Twitter or turn to a video channel to see who’s hot for the time being.

I don’t care for him so it doesn’t hurt my feeling none by not seeing him on it but at the same time doesn’t he belong and someone like 50 don’t yeah i think they fucked up there. 50 cent hasn’t had a good single since I GET MONEY. I also disagree with u on the business aspect u looking at it as a EXC but me being a consumer its about a body of music and i think that hip hop is dead because its no longer about good music but about the sells. U have great bodies of work that don’t sell but it doesn’t take away from the music and i would like to here more good music, great CD then hot singles. I love the list because Jay is # one i believe that he should stay number one until someone else can come with a master piece CD and knock him off the top he said it best about creating something that is timeless. I don’t care how much u sell most of this bullshit out right now we want remember next year.

  57. I feel that MTVs HOT MCs List did Eminem dirty:( He belonged on that list and they knew it. But MTV will be the loser in the end b/c they’ll not only lose cred with you (and other artists),but also with Em’s fans. The ones that moved all thoz units! MTV probably won’t care b/c the effect will not be instant….BOOM-BOOM-POW! But more gradual like the amount of time it takes to digest Lil Wayne’s lyrics. Then they’ll wish that they’d took the RED pill that Morpheus offered ’em!(lol)

    HIPHOP is not DEAD to me, it’s more like a Venus Flytrap. Sitting dormant for awhile until the right MC drops a verse, then it gets its BITE back.

    There are some g8 Lyricist out here, and although twisted Eminem is one of the g8est! He can spit wit da best of ’em, and always hold his ground. I don’t agree with everything he spits, but I recognize his talent. This doesn’t surprise me too much, b/c these lists are so bias that I weigh them wit a grain of salt. A Tribe Called Quest told us back in the day that “record company ppl were shady” (NOT ALL), and I believed them. MTV’s HOT MCs List is probably an effect of the shadyness alive and well today. What I do believe wholeheartedly is if someone shows you their true self BELIEVE IT the first time, so you’re prepared for other encounters. ATEOTD Eminem will continue to do him even though he’s surely pissed off, and MTV will make up a new list that will include him. “MCs that ROCK us” sounds like a quid pro quo!!!!

Don’t think Drake should have landed @ #3 or even in the top five. maybe #10 or #9 since YES dude had a hot year but he doesn’t yet have out a studio album!! Also, can’t believe Gucci Mane landed @ #6 and Fab was #8??…um, seriously what the hell?? Fab put out his best work to date and no Gucci is not on Fab’s level w/the lyrics by any means. Also think Kanye could have been over Lil Wayne. Regardless of how Kanye owned Taylor Swift @ tha VMA’s he def owns Wayne on lyrics and overall content. I think this list was more about popularity than an accurate and true overall assestment of what each artisit is bring to the craft right now….case in point Em being left off. Should have added Em and took Rick Ross outta the top 10 period

    Only think I agree w/is Jay @ #1, that BP3 was the boost his career needed to prove that he is still killin in light of all the age disses he’d been taken. cause PERIOD as an album as a whole BP3 is killin from pretty much start to finish and that is the think music is lackin. not too many artist are putting out solid ENTIRE albums anymore. Kanye been damn near the only dude doing that consistently over the past couple of years!! Jay snatched back that #1 spot by doing that with BP3.

    Its like any other list in entertainment.
    Eminem is one of the best mcs to ever grace the microphone in my humble opinion and a list from MTV will not change my mind on purchasing his music or attending his concerts.

    The music business works from the inside out so these list are not made to appease the people but most likely made to please the labels and the advertisers.Actually the list has accomplished its purpose by making us talk about it and keeping MTV relevant to music listeners,funny how it works but its working.

I don’t consider them to be the same thing. MCs are expected to have real lyrics, stories, structure & composition. Sometimes, a working theme will suffice.
