MMG founder/rapper Rick Ross is looking to sue EDM duo LMFAO for copyright infringement, claiming the refrain “Everday I’m shufflin'” from the duo’s 2010 hit single “Party Rock Anthem” rips off the his lyric, “Everday I’m hustlin'” from his 2006 single “Hustlin.” Filing the claim in Florida federal court, the lawsuit reads:

The use of “Hustlin” in “Party Rock Anthem” is readily apparent, despite the slight change from ‘Everyday I’m hustlin’. . . ‘to ‘Everyday I’m shufflin’. . . ” and constitutes, inter alia, the creation of an unauthorized derivative work, [making it] an obvious attempt to capitalize on the fame and success of “Hustlin.”

Ross and the track’s co-composer Jermaine Jackson (not from the Jackson 5) are seeking an injunction and maximum statutory damages from LMFAO as a result. “Party Rock Anthem” has sold over 7.5 million copies to date, and been used in various films, TV shows, video games and advertisements; while the phrase in question has also appeared on T-shirts and other items in LMFAO’s Party Rock Clothing line. We’ll keep you updated as more news on the case is released, but until then, feel free to chime in down below with your thoughts.
