MICHAEL JACKSON: BEYOND GREAT

I’m starting to believe that’s a destination; the next step in life once you get that title.

It seems we’re living in a world where people build you up just so they can break you down. No one has ever really come back to the level that got them there in the first place.

So I ask you, was there a stage left big enough for Mike to moonwalk on that would have satisfied the hunger of someone who is beyond great? Honestly, I don’t think so. I said it plenty of times to every artist I’ve worked with: if I were to produce a record that sold over 40 million, you people would never see me again in that light. Cause, after all the applause, award winning and love comes the hate, in all forms, sizes and shapes, and you can only ignore it for so long before the competitor in you is awakened. After a while, that hate starts making you think it’s possible to outdo what’s already been done. Mike had already achieved something that no one else could. That was his destiny.

When the media first started reporting on his death I was in New York. The minute I heard the news I was on the plane LA. As soon as I touched down the coverage started blowing up, and in all those reports they talked about “Thriller” being the biggest-selling album ever, then jumped right to, “But after that, he could never seem to top that and his legal problems, etc, etc.”

First off, no one; I repeat NO ONE, has topped that and never will!!! Even in death he’s done something no other artist has done before: He broke records by being the first artist eva to sell 2.5 million downloaded songs, and counting! As of today, he owns the entire top nine positions on Billboard’s Top Pop Catalog Albums chart. No artist living today can match that.

But back to my original point: This being a world-stopping moment, I got a chance to view this world I live in for what it really is. I’ve felt that pressure cooker that the public puts you through when you’ve achieved a certain level of success and no one gives you props for what you’ve already done. Instead, they say, “So, whatchu got for us now? What’s next?”

Don’t let that small mindset take away from what a great artist has already given us. No one can touch what he did. We were blessed to have someone with his incredible talent living among us. God put Mike here to do what he did and wasn’t gonna allow the devil and his helpers to destroy something so beautiful. He put him on the biggest stage of all. The whole world loved Mike, and Mike gave that love for his fans back tenfold. No one, not even President Obama, can top that.

Quincy Jones said it all the other day in his tribute to Mike on a blog post for the Los Angeles Times.

“This blessed artist commanded the stage with the grace of an antelope, shattered recording industry records and broke down cultural boundaries around the world, yet remained the gentlest of souls. Michael Jackson was a different kind of entertainer. A man-child in many ways, he was beyond professional and dedicated. Evoking Fred Astaire, Sammy Davis Jr. and James Brown all at once, he’d work for hours, perfecting every kick, gesture and movement so that they came together precisely the way they were intended to. Together we shared the ’80s, achieving heights that I can humbly say may never be reached again and reshaped the music business forever.”

  1. CHECK OUT MJ REHEARSAL VIDEO. HE WAS GOING TO DO THOSE SHOWS AND MORE!!!!

    http://www.cnn.com/2009/SHOWBIZ/Music/07/02/jackson.wrap/index.html

  2. well said JD….well said! i couldn’t have said it better!

R.I.P. The King of Pop! MJ4Ever

  3. wat up jd! thats wat up! once u reach the unthinkable wat is left? people always want more instead of appreciating the fact that someone has accomplish something that most people thought could not be done! ! Michael Jackson is the greatest and people should just focus on the the wonderful music he lft for this world and his humanitarian efforts around the world! RIP MJJ God bless!

  4. I totally agree with what you say. You speak the entire truth. A lot of people say he’s a legend, icon, idol, all that stuff. But I feel that Michael Jackson was in a category all in his own because he is that great(or in your words, beyond great.)

  5. The true MJ fans always held him up and honored his accomplishments. He did reach the top, no one ever did that, where else is there to go? I think we all wondered that and only thought that if he could be that unreachable, then he would be the only one that could push boundaries even more. The world was blown away and he seemed so amazing to our eyes that was all got lost in his haze of talent. I am in awe that one man could posess such a multitude of greatness in many areas (dance, music, producing, humaitarian, father, son, brother, writing, videos, etc.).

The link above with the rehearshal video is amazing to watch, he was on course to blow the world’s mind once again with this tour! I think new levels of MJ status will be reached in his death. They are already happening on the billboards, wait till his unrealeased works come out and the hours of videos of the ‘This is It’ rehearsal that AEG has. Prepare yourselves to be blown away to new boundaries!

  6. Well said JD you r 100% right! no one can ever do what he did and never will… We have lost the worlds best!!!!! much luv and respect to Janet and the whole Jackson family!!

  7. New Song by Michael Jackson – “SHOUT” – http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qA7UEFSOjT0
The Greatest who has EV3R done it !! I Love U, Mike!!

  8. Everything u said is true. There will never be another MJ! RIP KING OF POP!

  9. In a society where mediocrity is the norm, people don’t know how to accept and appreciate greatness.

Acknowledging the greatness of Michael Jackson makes people do one of two things; they are either inspired to press towards a similar level of greatness or they try to discredit it an effort to condone their mediocre efforts.

Sadly, everyone won’t come together and just rest in the joy that MJ gave the world, take pride in knowing the same God that blessed him with those gifts, talents and abilities is the same God that wants to do that in every one of us. We have a responsibility to own our actions, take note of what has worked for others and improve upon it. That’s what Michael did. He sat watched the great artists of old, took notes on what worked for them and tweaked it for his personal style.

There will never be another Michael Jackson or even Jermaine Dupri and there shouldn’t be. We all have a charge to “find our place and function at our potential.” In finding your place, you do you! You take your gifts and talents and share them with everyone you can to encourage, edify and inspire. To function at your potential, is to push yourself to where you can go. Does it mean you are a failure if you can’t do it like MJ? Absolutely not! It means that you have taken what you were blessed with and worked it out.

JD, I love your passion for music and your appreciation for an incredible gift to the world in Michael Jackson. You and the Jackson family are in my prayers. Thank you for taking time to share your thoughts, frustrations and comments with us. You inspire me to do more… thank you for recognizing your own greatness and sharing it.

  10. You really can’t please everyone no matter what you do. And when you are doing the right thing you have to know that those who mind don’t matter and those who matter don’t mind (I don’t know if I said that right but you know what I mean). MJ was the best there ever was and the best there ever will be. Everytime you thought it couldn’t get any better, it did. Add to that the fact that his motivation was not hate that some had for him, but love for what he did and for his fans. You can’t ask for anything more than that from a human being.

I’ve been watching alot of his videos and performances back to back to back to back, you see that his work was truly amazing. The news has it all wrong, they would get far more viewers if they displayed his work rather than focusing on controversy. Alot of people love Mike and really don’t want to hear or see the negative things that are being brought up about him. Say what you want but everyone has a favorite MJ song, everyone. Anyone that has negative feelings strong enough to deny him, they’ll be the ones losing out.

  11. HEY I AGREE WITH WHAT YOU ARE SAYING MJ IS THE GREATEST AND NO ONE HAS EVER GOT TO HIS LEVEL HOWEVER MY ISSUE IS I REALLY DONT UNDERSTAND WHY PEOPLE CANT JUST LEAVE IT AT THAT WHY CANT WE REMEMBER HIM FOR HIS MUSIC HIM AS A PERSON WHY IS THE MEDIA SO INTERESTED IN HIS PERSONAL LIFE EVEN WHEN HES NOT HERE MJ’S THE GREATEST WHO HAS EVER DONE IT AND LETS REMEBER HIM FOR THAT AND FORGET ALL THE OTHER BULLSHIT !!!

    AND JD I HAVE A QUESTION ?

WE ALL KNOW THAT HE IS THE BEST AND AT THIS POINT NO ONE HAS TOUCHED HIM BUT WHAT ABOUT THE ARTIST TODAY DO THEY HAVE A CHANCE TO BE ON HIS LEVEL? AND I KNOW ALOT OF ARTIST DO IT BECAUSE THEY LOVE MUSIC BUT THEY ALSO WANT TO ATRACT LISTENERS AND “FANS” SO …IF YOU DONT THINK THEY HAVE A CHANCE DO YOU THINK THAT THEY ARE WAISTING THERE TIME ??

LOL I HOPE THIS MAKES SENCE LOL

  12. I love to read and see postive postings concerning Michael.
As I sit here tonight watching Larry King with Jermaine Jackson, I have a sense of happiness because of what he built and what he stood for.. watching him perform at the Staples Center was just Awesome and Uplifting watching Michael do his thang..He gave us his all and then some to bring a change to this cruel world we live in..I bless you Michael for sharing yourself with us all..

  13. Well said JD I agree 100% Unfortunately it seems to be more like that in this country that we eventually lose repect for our Superstars particularly our African American Superstars. I believe it is a true test of your character to go from being the best at what you do to being considered an after thought or has been by the same fans that screamed your name oh so long ago. Michael peaked so early and at such a young age that anything he sold in comparison to Thriller was a disappointment to him. I believe the reason why he chose to do his last tour in Europe is because they really truly appreciate greatness over there and it doesnt matter that you havent had a hit record in some years. I hope MJ is looking down with pride at at the admiration and love shown all over the world, its just a shame that it took his death for all of this to happen. P.S. I Always wondered why MTV of all networks never did give him an Icon tribute like his sister Janet, as you always say JD, He kept the lights on over at MTV..I’m out!!

  14. Thanks JD. It is good to read the truth from time-to-time. Tabloids should try it sometimes rather than printing sensational lies. They might end up selling more copies.

I am also quite disappointed with Obama’s response to Michael’s death. The British Prime Minister immediately issued a personal condolence message once the fact became known. Obama appears to have dismissed it and almost two-weeks later is finally shamed into writting a letter to Michael’s parents. I suppose The French President Sarkozy was right afterall when he described Obama as inexperienced and slow in taking action.

  15. Well said JD, its a shame because MJ became a victim of his own success themedia treated him so badly when he was alive and i remember watching an interview where he said it all started when he started breaking records and achiveing things that Elvis couldn’t and didn’t achieve. But his music will always live on and he’ll always be remembered as the GREATEST entertainer of all time!!! when i have children i’ll make sure they know about the KING of music, Mr. Michael Jackson.

  16. JD you are right, I just wished that Mike would have sat and realize that people are haters and they are out to destory him / is image and get his money. Every person in the world know that THE JACKSON Family is a good holdsome family. In the media it’s all about destorying the Black Man (Michael Jackson)that has power and different from the rest.

I’m not hearing in the media of his records sell that has occurred in one week. NO ONE ON THIS EARTH WILL EVER TOP THAT FA SHO.; He’s a child prodigy he never grew old; the shell did, but his soul did not. We all have stress and pressure in our lives; but not at the level of Mike; being able to survie this long is a blessing.

Oh by the way, what other Artist shared their home (Neverland) with strangers so they could live out a dream of their life?

  17. It’s hard for the family, but how is JJJJJJJJJJJJJJJJJJJJAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAANNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEETTTTTTTTTTTTTT doing???

  18. well said. on so many levels. continue to be strong and help the jacksons through this time.

    ~Thed

  19. i never stopped believing in the magic MICHAEL JACKSON has. its a gift from GOD. think about it, ABE LINCOLN, JFK, MARTIN LUTHER KING JR, MALCOLM X, MOSES AND JESUS CHRIST were blessed by GOD with amazing gifts , the world should have embraced the magic, instead
they became so envious of it that they felt they had no choice but 2 destroy the men that GOD had given the ability 2 heal the world through those special gifts. i love MICHAEL JACKSON and always will. my heart and prayers go out 2 his family. i kept thinking something is wrong with the universe, this is not suppose 2 be. but ur post 2day is helping my hurting heart. i now smile picturing MICHAEL moonwalking accross heaven. that is the only stage left that can hold a soul of that greatness. thanx jd 4 everything. u don’t know how important what u r doing for us through these blogs really is. i truly appreciate it.

  20. I’am speachless right now And I understand what you are saying I dont have any words to say because I feel the same way and it make me sad that people tried to tear him down. And others shouldn’t take for granted what a genius and great person (michael) was and has given to us. Appreciate and learn from it. He was a victim with people always trying to tear him down build him up and keep on and then tear his spirits right down michael has never left and was always has been here I love him. I remember when I was younger and lived in D.C. This was after the motown 25 I had to be 11 and I had a younger sister and older brother and we had our glove which was a sock cut it up and put rhyme stones on it Got a black hat got a jacket and everyone wanted one for christmas and got the high pants and black shoes and white socks and went to school like that And thought we were cool and wanted be like mike every body was like that. And went around trying to do the moon walk and dance moves But we love him and will never forget him

  21. Thank you JD for giving such an honory figure the praise and resepct he diserves.

Many people feel the same way because he touched deep down in out soul. I can’t explain why but I felt this way about him every since I was a little girl now.

Yet, as I got older, become more fickle and thought I was too grown up to be that screaming little girl with all the posters on her wall, the books about her fantasy husband, the original LPs (Thriller & Bad) that I played over and over again or watching all those old videos.

When Invicible was released and it brought back all those old memories. My car CD changer was filled with every solo project Michael ever released that was collecting dust in my closet. I couldn’t get enough and it was so great to see him making music again.

I’m playing all my favorites now but unforunately it’s for a different reason.

Now I feel as if part of my childhood was lost on June 25th, 2009 and with the media focusing on all his pain, they’re just stomping and kicking my memories of someone that I loved in the gut.

I hope more people with access to media continute to speak about what an extrondiare entertainer Michael was and that his work shines like a beacon and will never tarnish

  22. Ain’t this a bitch! Lesson 1) multi tasking isn’t for every. Thought I saved the spell checked copy (yes I can’t spell)

Thank you JD for giving such an honouree figure the praise and respect he deserves.

  24. The world stopped and stood still when this tragedy happened. My stomached folded like I had jus lost a family member. I didnt think of his legal troubles, I thought about how I was going to tell my mother that her favorite SINGER, DANCER, and ENTERTAINER passed away. I hoped she wouldnt call me to find out if it was true, but she did. it was sad. All I remember about Mike are his accomplishments. I live to Michael’s music—————————-> LONG LIVE THE KING

  25. JD,

Thanks for the great read yo. I was thinking the same thing about the media. One moment they were talking about Thriller and the next saying how he was never able to match its success. It’s kinda fucked up how we just can’t focus on the achievement. Mike gave so much to the world and now it’s our time to give back to him by keeping is legacy going. I’m new to this twitter thing but I’m going to def post a link to your blog on there and facebook (http://twitter.com/DapperTrav). Thanks for being one of realist in the game and reppin the South…Send my regards to Janet and the Jackson Family…1

  26. Much respect to everything that MJ accomplished, which the way the music industry is heading, will never be duplicated. But you can’t compare what MJ did in making music to what Obama has accomplished. So many of us just 5 years ago would have said it was unlikely that America would have a black president in our lifetime. To not only be the leader of the most powerful nation in the world directly affecting over 300 million people, but to also have a hand in the entire world’s future cannot be compared with selling a lot of records and influencing future artists. This wouldn’t even be a discussion if the world didn’t idolize “celebrities” to an absurd extent.

  27. My point being, if MJ makes 10 horrible records big deal. But we’ve seen what happens when the President f***s up.

  28. I’ve read countless articles after the passing of our beloved Michael none; however, describes it best what I feel. I agree that God had a plan when He brought MJ into this world, now He has others.
We may never have someone like him again! So, when a friend of mine asked me today why i am so sad over someone you don’t even know, I answered: In my heart, he is my family and that’s why I am mourning.

I wish the best for the family and the kids. May God bring some comfort to the family in knowing that the world has simply changed for the best because Michael was here! Blessings!

  29. Thank you for your beautiful tribute. Allow God to continue to use you in such a magnificent way. Michael Jackson was part of the fabric of our world, he will be missed more than I can express. He is now resting peacefully and singing wonderfully in the heavens. May your light shine as you continue to hone your craft and humanitarism.

  30. JD, that is the truth, it kills me that with all MJ has done for the world which is evident in the millions of fans across the world, the media is still trying to bring him down in death. The media is beyond crazy and it takes alot of strenght to get thru. The Jacksons are Royalty not only to Black people but the world.

  31. Like the old saying “You don’t know what you have til its gone.” I just wish people stop focusing on the negative stuff.

  32. So true. It makes me mad when the media compares Thriller to his later work because the later albums still sold well. When the videos were released it was an event. Prime-time tv premiered both Black and White and Scream, they don’t do that for just anybody. I can compare how some blogs dogged Usher’s Here I Stand album when compared to Confessions. Both albums were great and all my girls still keep Here I stand in heavy rotation.

  33. Thank you for your words and insight.

Being just 10 days younger than Michael, I feel like he is the soundtrack of my life. I do not really remember life without him. I, as so many others am sickened by the death by media that followed Michael in life and now sadly continues in death.

In the history our great planet, there are very few who change the course of something. During his lifetime, Michael changed the course of so many things; music, dance to name a few. Just look around the entertainment arena and watch artist do their thing, 8 in10 will be using something they learned from Michael in their act.

But then let’s look at his business brain. How many people at the young age can negotiate to buy the Beatles catalog!

Man, if you sit and think of what this man achieved in 50 years, it’s just mind-blowing! I sincerely hope the next generation will be free of the b/s that currently surround Michael’s life and his legacy be firmly centered on the genius that he was.

To his beautiful babies, Mrs. K. Jackson, the family, extended family and friends, my condolences on your enormous loss. R.I.P Michael and thank you for the magic, the world is poorer without you in it.

  34. I FEEL THIS NOTE VERY STRONGLY…I CANT HELP BUT BECOME EMOTIONAL AS I CONTINUED TO READ THIS OVER AND OVER. I LET IT SINK IN…AND YOU KNOW WHAT?…NO MATTER HOW HARD I THINK AND TRY TO ANALYZE HOW HE MIGHT HAVE BEEN ABLE TO TOP HISELF…IT’S IMPOSSIBLE. L4L

  35. Someone on twitter asked yesterday if there was an artist of today that could “go beyond” like Mike. In my opinion, NO! Why? Because what Michael gave us came from such a purity of spirit that it’s uncanny. I said in my video tribute and I’ll say it again, Mike was more like a spirit to me. When you saw him perform you know you were looking at something extraordinary. On stage he literally transformed. The way people respond to him looks similar to a religious experience. He didn’t have to rely on trying to be sexy, didn’t have to rely on the gimmicks these artists today rely on to get a small fraction of the response MJ did. Truly, when you can get beneath our hard, cold exteriors and touch something deep within people no matter race or gender, you have to realize that’s spirit.

He was the true definition of visionary on and off the stage. Artists today don’t seem to look beyond themselves, they don’t consider what their legacy will be. They live for the C.R.E. A.M. Mike made multi-millions then used it to help fight cancer and other illnesses. Philanthropy was key. And he did it not for tax write offs for the wealthy but because he saw a need. He found his purpose through music, healing the world making it a better place.

Lastly, maybe being overly sheltered was a blessing and a curse for him. But I think if he had not been sheltered or how church for say “sanctified” (set apart) he may not have seen the world for what it could be. He would have been tainted and cynical like most of us. That said, his view of the world may have been too childlike for most but ironically isn’t that what God asks of us–to be pure in mind and spirit like children.

    *Gone*

  36. The media…the root to all evil in the world. If it wasn’t for our media, what would we have? I’m going to guess that the world wouldn’t be so bent out of shape with each other. If anyone here thinks that Govts rule alone, then you are nuts. Media has more power than anyone out there (except those countries like Iran)…they can make you or break you no matter who you are and Michael was one of the victims of poor taste and character of media oversite.

The media is the best legal way to brainwash a mass amount of people successfully..
Unfortunately some get taken out with their ignorance. I feel bad for Michael’s family. I’m sick of hearing about it because now its turned into a reality soap opera. Sad.

  37. JD..this is a hard one for me to take..I loved Michael, got his message, loved his music..Michael himself he believed he was chosen from an early age to bring love, music and harmony to the world..He did that and more! I saw Michael as the beautiful spirit that loved ppl, animals and children..The person who did so much for charity and the person who was the most charitable entertainer in The Guinness Book..I didnt just listen to his music..I CONNECTED with his music. He was the most innovative entertainer and very much an icon..My heart has been heavy since..Everywhere i’ve gone ppl are giving tribute! and u know the Media loves a story that they can recycle from every end and sensationalize..I dont feel its right for them to try to drag Michael’s name thru the mud…and we the public need to realize alot of it is straight up mistruth! Michael and Janet have already proven theirselves..they both are icons who have sold eons of records..have fans that connect with them and their music..THe media( I’M GONNA JUST SAY IT!) can be racist at times..THey wont give Mike his props but will give it to ppl that dont deserve it….I really think it ultimately comes down to that AND their need to gain viewers..Michael will ALWAYS be awesome to me, they cant taint him to me cuz i c the truth..The media doesnt want him to give him the iconic status he deserves. Wait until they see the outpouring of love at the memorial…They cant change my mind no matter what they say..This is gonna be a hard thing for me to get past tho..sometimes i still cant believe it!

  38. JD, You already know how I feel about “MJ” from reading my previous poem. I want to share another poem with you about this.

This is a copy of a post I placed on a site which featured an article on Michael Jackson.

“However it happened, we lost the best entertainer of all times. It is disgusting to see racist postings in regard to the death of a legend whose memory will never die but I guess it is to be expected from ignorant minded people. It does not matter what nationality his doctor was. I read an article that also stated Michael feared for his life if he backed out of the contract but who knows what the truth is anymore in relation to anything. We can only go off of facts and the fact is AEG had him insured which is standard procedure according to what I read but to what extent? There is more to be determined. He looked very vibrant in his final rehearsal right before his death so who knows the true cause? Yes, he may not have been in optimal health despite it all but I do know CPR practiced in America kills people and say that as a prior nursing student. Most do not live through it and if they do, for a short time, unless they are younger. CPR usually breaks ribs also so those who do survive it are left in painful agony. It actually defeats the purpose. A person should be on their side as discovered by a World Class Doctor who went all around the world discovering a better form of CPR which actually saves lives that is being practiced by a particular Fire Dept. whose life saving rate has substantially increased since applying this technique. Prescription drugs do damage without a doubt.”

(I wrote this poem about it through first hand experience in relation to my father and what I learned in nursing school)

    Overdose

I strongly oppose the overdose of the human race
This disgrace is all too commonplace in an effort to control the populace
Are we in such a deep state of hypnosis?
To accept all of these misdiagnosis
    and possible prognosis..
    affecting our psychosis
Lets end the dispose of the prematurely comatose
This I purpose before I decompose
To administer ritalin into children should be a sin
    If everyone knew its origin..
    would they still accept insulin?
At one time to vaccinate meant to eliminate
So who can claim its not still the same?
How do we comprehend, defend, or reccomend this trend ?
Nurses, although many have hearts that are tender
are often taught to be like that of “the great pretender”
Doctors prescribe drugs they do not know much about
For us to “try out”- if there is a bad “turn out”
be prepared to question that doctors “whereabout”
There is an element which is lacking
    That of sincerity
Including appreciation of individualization, integrity, & dignity
Which leads to depravity, needless fatality, and “premeditated complexity”
used as a “necessity” to protect identities
Consumer advocacy is labeled as “lunacy”

  39. MICHAEL JACKSON REMEMBERED! SET YOUR DVR’S http://www.cnn.com/SPECIALS/2009/michael.jackson.remembered/

  40. I just read what you wrote and the first person I thought about was Janet Jackson and her song “What have you done for me lately” We are living in a time where the pubic has a very short attention span. Most hit records go for like 5 to 6 weeks and 3 months later everybody has for got about them. I think you really have to mentally prepare yourself and understand that your life and THE GAME are totally separate. I can’t even imagine how much pressure it is to be on top in everybodies eyes and then be at the bottom in everybodies eyes.

I had a close friend name Creo D he made a song called “Dazzey Duks” This was a big record that came right out of Augusta GA in 1992. I watched him and La Sno along with Tony Mercedes go from making money buying cars etc to losing everythinrg. At the end, Dude started selling his cars, furniture and everything. The first time I came to So So Def when it was on Peidmont I was with Creo… I will never forget those memories. No one man can change the public. I wish the only thing people would talk about concerning Micheal is his greatness but that will never happen. It goes back to Janet… What have you done for me Lately!!

  41. Michael Jackson Tribute Song Exceeds 100,000 Plays !!!

  42. every country loved micheal jackson, dressed like micheal jackson, danced like micheal jackson, went to his concerts, bought all his records. the whole jackson family & movement is monumental in itself. dude sold 750 million records, janet sold millions, jermaine sold records, rebbie sold records. they’ve sold videos, books, had tv shows, cartoons, etc. micheal jackson use to shut tv down for video premeres. micheal’s life is a real celebration. yeah its sad that he died at a early age, but we know what they say about dying young. only the good do that and we’re living in hell so he can only be in a better place! we can be sad for the kids & family, but for us, he gave us 100,000,000%. micheal jackson will live forever. how many people will live forever in the lives of so many. if some of the people who talk about micheal & make crazy statements, if they died right now, nobody would care in the next 24 hrs except their family & 2 or 3 other people. so fuuuuuuuuuuuuux the haters

  43. and spock, all that what have you done for me latlely is some bs. if you had requested a micheal jackson song last tues or wed you wouldve been waiting forever. its so sad we only get our props & credit when we die. why cant we celebrate people & apprecitate them while they’re here. time to stop letting people die without knowing others really appreciate the hard work & sacrafices they’ve made to service the world & others. we still got people like dr lowery, john lewis, hank arron, bill gates, russell simmons, frankie beverly, jonetta cole, colin powell, tom joyner, donnie simpson, red alert, kathy huges, stevie wonder, etc. we take for granted the things a lot of people do well are easy because they make it look easy. it’s hard to be consistant doing things & a lot of work has been put in to break down walls just to get a chance to make their dreams come true. once you get the shot, then the real work begins to make it work. so lets give our people credit. you cant measure a persons success by how much money they make. if that were the case teachers would be multi millionaires

  46. Great article. I am still baffled that people don’t use critical thinking skills when it comes to judging peoples lives – how can you accuse a person of bleaching their skin when it is a physical impossibility; how can you ridicule a person for a health condition of any kind. How can you accuse a person once the justice system as acquitted them? All of these things have made me so sad over the last several years. But I continued to pray God’s blessings for MJ. Not only the greatest performer of our times but a great man and humanitarian. I have a profound sense of sadness for the loss, because I truly believe that this world will not understand the loss because of narrow mindedness and the need to judge others so harshly. As a Christian, and as a minister of the gospel of Jesus Christ – I know without a shadow of a doubt that God, Himself, endowed Michael with His gifts and that He found great pleasure in Michael’s desire to bring joy to others and honor to the one who created him.

  47. MJ will FOREVER be the G.O.A.T when it comes to music and performing! Don’t get me started on all of his humanitarian work and donations….He spanned accross generations & races and he gave so much of himself…THANK YOU MJ!!!

MJ “The King Of Pop” 4EVa!

JD you should have a party in the A where they play nothing but MJ! 🙂

  48. You said it best. It is hitting us so hard that he is gone because we loved him so much. He was the soundtack of my life. As I reflect why it hurts so bad besides the fact he is gone. I think back to how when I was sad, mad, depressed or felt like giving up..Michael helped me escape. I am hearing and reading from others he did the same. God sent him to us to help us all. He was a gift from God. Jermaine…I agree…God wasnt going to let him continue to get beat up from these devils. Regardless of how he died it was his time. God wanted him home. I am sure his spirit is smiling at all the love we have for him. No disrespect to Janet…Michael was not just an Icon..I felt like he was our family too. I pray that you, the Jackson family and his fans are kept in the palm of Gods hands during this time. God Bless.

  49. JD, you moan about the building up and tearing down of Michael Jackson and then go on to talk about how “no one will top that and never will” referring to MJ’s impressive achievements perpetuating the unfortunate myth that being an artist is a contest which is the very thing you’re railing against. “Beyond Great??” What does that mean? Q Jones quote was a more precise comment about MJ’s contributions.

  50. Dear Michael,

The first time I felt compassion was the night of USA Africa, I was 10 years old and learned your name. Listening to Heal the World opened a tender place in my heart which has only continued to grow. Now, I shoulder the pain and burden of others, helping to bring them peace and joy, if only for one moment. I do it in my way as you did it in yours. That night set me on a path toward my life purpose, and it began with your words.

    Thank You.

I, and others, felt on the inside what the press has allowed people to see you as on the outside. Now, we look at you and see your sheer beauty in so many ways. Now we look at what you’ve left us with and realize the love we always had for you. We are all shamed by the mistake we made allowing the press to maliciously overshadow your essence with unjust controversy and greed, by not standing up for you as strong as we should have, by letting you forget that you were so loved. And you are so loved.

Your compassion, genuine nature, perfection, empathy, persistence, resilience, humor, creativity, innocence, will and most of all the depth of your pain mixed with the depth of your love will be missed so very much, so very much. The words you would speak to the public were so open, so honest and loving…the world just didn’t know how to understand it. They were scared of such a force.

Because of you I will walk each day with my head held high, I will take the power I have within and use it for good, I will find the forgiveness for myself that I need. Because of you I will work harder to see the beauty in this world, moving away from the urgency of difficulty and pain. Because of you I will always be there for the people that need me and I will learn to tell them that I love them. Because of you I will never let others steal the spirit I have in life and will always believe in magic. Because of you, I will.

You have lived so many lifetimes in one, but were cut short. I don’t think you ever walked a step you were not destined for. There are the moments I’d like to put in a glass box so they wouldn’t have to end, the seconds I’d hoped would tick a little slower, the minutes that could count as half. There are the moments I could be locked in for a lifetime.

I will think of you Michael Jackson, and I will think of you fondly when I do…I wish I could have known a person like you, there are just too few.

I hope and pray that your family will come together at this time to build the legacy you deserve in the face of all the “leeches and vampires” who don’t deserve the air they breathe.

With my hand on my heart I salute you.

    Love Always, Lisa M.

  52. I really feel what you said. people expect so much and when others dont live up toit they try to bring them down. the news hsould be highlighting what he was first famous for!! the entertainment not the negative stuff.

  53. just thought I’d share this: Siedah Garrett briefly talks about how Mike touched her life and then performs the song she co-wrote, Man in the Mirror, with the Agape Choir here in LA. Talk about the spirit of MJ being in a place. I didn’t get the Staples confirmation, but I truly hope the performances are as heart felt as this one. http://bit.ly/F1U2g

    Peace! And I mean that…

  54. Very nice post. He is not perhaps or arguably the greatest entertainer of all time – the numbers speak for themselves. He IS the greatest entertainer of all time. But to me, I love the man for far more than his entertainment value. Spread this around everywhere for those who say he is too celebrated: The Guiness Book of World Records Millenium issue lists Michael Jackson under Most Charities Supported By A Pop Star, with a staggering 39 international organizations including the Make-A-Wish Foundation and the American Cancer Society. It’s been estimated he may have given up to $500 million to charity in his lifetime.

Beyond the glitz and the controvery this man was a true humanitarian. I wish the media would speak about that more.

  55. hi jermaine
i’m really impressed of how you support and defend Micahael…. i am one of his avid fans who until now is still crying and not accepting what happened to him…
