Missouri Governor Jay Nixon Has Just Declared A State of Emergency in Mike Brown Shooting Death

Missouri Gov. Jay Nixon declared a state of emergency Monday ahead of an expected grand jury decision in the case of Mike Brown.

In his executive order, Nixon cited the “possibility of expanded unrest.” He said that people have the right to protest peacefully but that citizens and businesses must be protected from violence and damage.

The fact that the governor is now declaring a “State of Emergency” when the grand jury has not reached a decision yet gives more credibility to the fact that the process is tainted and that the likelihood of Darren Wilson being prosecuted for killing slain teenager Mike Brown is slim. With that declaration, the governor will likely deploy the National Guard to aid in countering any violence that may occur during expected protests.
