I was on twitter yesterday talking with one of my artist friends about this but I want to know.. Does sex appeal in hip-hop for females really matter anymore? sound like some old outdated bullsh*t to me and this is coming from a guy. You could flash a whole titty on your album cover.. That doesn’t motivate me at all to buy your music.. I’m trying to figure out if anyone would .. Is sex still selling?? lol.

woman ”showing to much” in Hip Hop has always been overrated in my book, its okay to be attractive and sexy but it should not be the deciding factor in selling records, maybe its okay for RnB but female emcees should sell records based on content more than sex…… just my opinion….
im still listening to the greats, Queen Latifah, MC Lyte, Da Brat etc……
thank you ! @djmissvohn I look look at female emcees right now , theres Nicki Minaj who is kind of commended for her looks then you have artist like Rapsody or even if you want to be more current Angel Haze who may not be as physicially attractive or as voluptious as nicki may be in her features, but they hands down make some damn great records arguably better than nicki. I was curious as to if sex was still selling or not lol.
I liked Nicki when she was raw and uncut, her mixtape days, now with all of the implants and whatnot kinda devaluated her as an artist, in my opinion I liked her when she sold music not ass…. I understand that artists need to grow lyrically and image wise but when you depend on your looks and how much boob your showing to sell records thats a problem…. Da Brat was the first Female rapper to go platinum and i still dont know what her boobs look like!! Thats the type of female rappers i look up to as a female!!

I feel like females or even label heads feel like if they’re going to market a female in hip-hop she has to be sexy and its like…….no. LOL. no necessarily. this is HIP-HOP , people are looking like who gave a f*ck and ran and still sell records lol.
The #1 woman winning off of Sex Appeal is Rihanna! like Rose said…and trust she has that thang down to a science.
