In a business that considers moxy a prerequisite, a beautiful young lady by the name of Breanna Thomas is coming in with plenty of it. Bre, as she’s called, has a very defined personality just to be 22 years old. Born and raised in Atlanta, GA, she’s been honing her skills in what is now called the “Black Motown,” and the “New Black Hollywood.” With her crisp vocals, flawless dancing, and vibrant personality, she has everything she needs to follow her dreams; and she’s confident in saying that no one can stop her. She can’t wait for her time to shine, she feels like she’s going blow everyone out the water. Why, you may ask? While others refer to themselves as the “next” Alicia Keys, Ciara, Keyshia Cole, Fantasia, or Monica, Bre is simply trying to make her own way to a spot amongst those at the top. Though she had been involved with music long before, she buckled down and committed to it after graduating in 2008. Her passion runs deep. With a work ethic that doesn’t quit, she is destined to become famous. Her creative mindset will get her where she needs and wants to be in this lifetime. Bre not only sings and performs her music, she also composes her own songs. A well-rounded young lady, her future plans include majoring in graphic design and music at a four-year college if her career in music doesn’t sky rocket right away. She’ll never give up on music though. It’s everything to her. In her own words, “Music is my life. I live it, I breathe it. Singing is not just something for me to do, it’s what I love to do. My ability comes naturally, it’s just like talking…the words just seem to flow. The passion, faith, and drive that I have will get me far if I stand next to my savior Jesus Christ. Singing comes from within my heart and soul physically, mentally, and emotionally. It runs through my veins. I come from a line of church singers, starting with my great grandparents and going down to my grandparents; also my uncles and aunts. Music is my most valuable asset and I take it seriously. I feel as if God brought me here to move people’s souls with my vocal skills. Without music, I have nothing. When I was 6, I remember watching Janet Jackson on my TV performing, and I thought, ‘I’m going to do that for the rest of my life.’ Later, I began to develop a hunger for being a superstar. I felt invisible most of my life, so I started to think it was impossible and that my dreams didn’t matter because I watched my mother struggle to take care of us. However, my grandmother inspired me to never give up because she told me I was meant to inspire others through my voice. Being a singer is not what I do anymore; it has now become who I really am. It’s within me. I sing because it makes me happy and nothing else could ever compare to that. I started to compose my own songs at 13 and instrumentals at 17. As far as learning life lessons, inspiration is one of my top priorities. An example is being a good role model for younger teens, even if it may only be through my lyrics. Every waking moment that I may have on this earth will be used to try to inspire through my singing. I really just want to motivate others through the powerful gift of my voice. Perhaps I can still give hope to others who are in doubt of following their dreams. No matter what, I’m still striving.” Powerful words from a young lady with a powerful voice. She knows what she wants, how she wants it, and isn’t afraid to do whatever it takes to make it happen.
