  1. Yup, I understand exactly what you are talking about…

Me personally, it doesn’t matter what age the rapper is. Its more about the material that they are putting out. There is always going to be someone hating. Bow Wow back like a few years ago would be putting out good stuff for someone his age or younger, but someone older might look at the things he is saying as cheesy or something. Then take a Jay-z and some of the younger kids might not be able to relate to what he is talking about and hate on him, but like Soulja Boy.

  2. To go on about the whole XXL cover thing. Yes Bow Wow has been successful for years starting at a young age and is still going. But Look at what Soulja Boy has been being noticed for right now. He has has the whole video saying that he is doing crack. He signed a rapper Lil B that calls himself the “base god” and goes around talking bout he going to “fuck Kanye West in the ass if he don’t work with him”. He has the whole stuff with Kat Stacks.

Its bad that the world is like this, but the world likes to hear about someone doing bad and messing up more than they like to see someone be successful. The most likely put Soulja Boy on the front cover due to all the controversy that is going on about him right now on more of a sales stand point. Hoping that him being on the front cover will get people to buy hoping to read something about him admitting to something bad that he has done.

  3. So to put everything together I’m not hating on Soulja Boy or anyone who has ever got on a cover because they have got there for more than 1 reason. But I think that the world and industry is just messed up in general because they search for those stories high and low about someone that has been doing good things messing up

  4. ok ok I completely understand wat ur saying. Jay-z love him no matter what aged he is. Remember he has already broken so many barriers, so it don’t matter what niggas say about him, because he already in the History books. NOW lil bow wow I don’t know…. dis nigga along with many other rappers rap about the same damn thing, THE SAME DAMN THING. Either he talking about money, cars, clothes, and being in love with video hoes. He shit is too repetitive I can always tell what he gon say in his next punch line i.e how many green lights is dis nigga gon put out. Move on. He’s too damn cocky and for no reason. Now im not trying to shit on da nigga but you asked for the opinion, and here it is lil bow wow’s age has nothing to do with people hating on him. Its how he acts and how he cares himself very immature. AND he talk too much shit and dont know how to back it up. Not cute at all, i dont care how cute r how much money u got u still suppose to humble yourself.

  5. I don’t have an age policy on rappers or artists period!!! I want good quality music and great lyrics to go with it. When I was a teen all the rappers were in their 20s if not 30 back in the 80s, so there’s no point in age discrimination when it comes to rapping unless you’re in your 50s still tryna be a rapper. LOL JayZ isn’t too old to rap…he’s for the grown folk anyway…we get him. Its the kids that don’t get him and his messages. The only thing I want 40 yr old JayZ to do is pull his dayum pants up on his ass. LOL As for souljaboi I’m not a fan and will never listen to his bullshit…EVER!!! But for Bow to get dissed the way he does is ridiculous!!! I can’t even remember when I’ve seen Bow perform on an awards show outside of the Hip Hop honors for you in place of KK. smh Bow has more than earned his share to be on mag covers being a rapper and an actor…what has soulja done other than brag about fuckin a hoe and being a crackhead? NADA!!! NEXT!!!

  6. It depends on the age of the people you are listening to. Folks in their 30’s for the most part still ride to Jay-Z, DMX, Kast, etc. Folks in their 30’s still ride out in the club to Soulja Boy and the younger rappers but they don’t wanna admit to anybody that the young rappers go hard. They jam to the young rappers in the whip alone but when they ride with folks they play those rappers who are 35 and older. I have not been in a club in any city from Korea to Africa to Atlanta & DC where the crowd was not rockin to the young rappers, but folks over 30 want to act like they are too good to listen to the young boys when they step outside the club. I have not gone to a club that was younger than 21+ in many years but I never see folks leave the dance floor when Soulja Boy, Niki Minaj, or Roscoe Dash are playing. In fact these same folks over 30 who had to sit down after the last jam and take off their shoes are running, breaking their necks to get back to the dance floor.

The younger kids feel like the cats who are 35 and up need to sit down and pass the torch. They young crowd wants to be crunk (just like we did) and the older rappers for the most part are not on that tip anymore. These same old cats who used to make the young crowd rock now feel like the young cats are not real rap artists and they hate on the younger guys and that just makes the younger generation lose respect for the older rappers.

Instead of a North-South or East-West controversy, now we have Young-Old. I think the older rappers and older fans need to just buy the music they like and keep their mouths shut. Let the young kids make and buy the music they like and you go spend your dollars on the music you like. Its like every other generation where the older folks think that the young generation’s music is garbage, except for the rap generations we are all listening to the same genre of music, unlike in the past where older generations listened to R&B and the younger generation listened to Rap, or where the older gen listened to Rock and the younger gen listened to Disco. We are all still listening to rap, but we just don’t appreciate all types of rap. Rap has segmented like rock did decades ago, for example soft rock, hard, rock, metal, etc… Rap has divided into D-boy, crunk, gospel, conscious, etc. We all just need to like what we like and not worry about what other people older or younger like.

  7. @ anita I agree with you a 100 percent. especially on da saggy jeans “FREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOTTYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYBOYSSSSSSSSS”, is wat we call ’em down here. Moreover, And I’m not saying that lil bow wow hasn’t earned his spot, I know for a fact its been countless days where he had to get up in the middle of the night and do a track, at the young age he came in the game its even more harder pressure. I commend lil bow wow on his journey to success. However, he is 24yrs and I quote, if he was intelligent enough to see that the same game he and all the other rappers are playing is getting old, and if he is a “Corporate Nigga” like he say he is, he needs to let go of that money, hoes, cars, and clothes all a nigga knows mentality. Its a new day and age and you have people that’s younger than him that are billionaires FOR REAL. And I don’t understand how dis Nigga got money to “stunt” on stupid shit like he do. And can’t invest in some stocks or bonds. Nigga do you know if I would’ve had the type of money dis fool got. I would’ve been flipped dat bird into an eagle. You would’ve already known me as the CEO of the BILLIONAIRES CLUB. I mean running every motherfuckin thing. My empire would’ve been built. He need to get him some Stocks, Bond, his Assets gotta equal his Liability, and stop tryna be the one who always in the club poppin bottles of rosie o’donnells, and sticking his dick in every woman dat open they legs(Nasty). Remember he all these other fake rappers aint gon stay young forever, people gon forget about you and be on to the next one in a hot flash, and all that money you make don’t matter because when you die, you can’t take it witchu. Now I understand that when you work hard you deserve to treat yourself. But honestly how much has he donated to charity compared to how much he spends on cars and all that other bullshit.

JD Please rely this message to lil bow wow:
    @ lil bow wow
you will always be “lil bow wow” to me until you learn how to truly humble yourself. You not the finest nigga in the world, and des hoes don’t care how you look. You just somebody dat got money and like to act a fool in public. Instead of trying stunt on niggas wit yo money. Why don’t you start stunnin with yo mind and your heart. Show people beside telling them why you deserve your respect. Learn how to become financially literate and start investing in projects that are worthy for a cause. I.E. Speaking to young black brothers about further their education themselves by going to college and so on. Instead of being mentored become a mentor. Start thinking about the future twenty years down the road: Do you wanna have your own multimillion record label or still having other people signing ya checks and being they mascot. And 40 years old still in the club talkin bout you lamboghini moose. Ol’ Lawd thats when hiphop really is dead. Because to me you haven’t really done anything different than any other artist that was before your time: Except for MJ. But nonetheless, you sell records that is your job. And if you feel that you need to correct me please feel free to do it on the next episode of living the life. I would like to know how you feel about my constructive critical comment, in a respectable manner of course.
P.S. And stop talking shit and don’t bag it up, if you was in my hood throwing them little temper tantrum you do. Yo ass would’ve been got the cockiness knocked outta you, They would be calling yo ass Israel the way you humble yoself. I look forward to hearing what you have to say about this Mr. Lil bow wow

  8. i t doesnt matter as long u r putting out good music not playful music but real good for all ages..BUT they need to stay rapping in their age lane to b call one of the best Like BOW WOW!!! he can go down as the GREAT ONES check his stats..LOL!!

  9. @anita who the hell is KK?

  10. I agree with guys in here. People don’t “hate” on these young rappers, they DISLIKE them trying to tell people to respect them when they do nothing but put out the same song every week. Same beat, same fuckin message on every damn song. All these fools talking about “hating”. Hating on what, your sincere ignorance?

@ ijusthkdifrentLTL I don’t know how much good your message to Bow Wow will do coming from JD. This is no shade to JD because I respect his work and what he’s done, however, he can’t tell anyone to grow up if he’s still talking about playing video games everyday, popping bottles, stunting on niggas, and it’s a movie in the club when he’s damn near 40. Again, that is not a diss, i’m simply saying that the message could be lost because of the messenger. For JD to deliver the message, he’d basically be telling Bow Wow, “do as I say, and not as I do.”

  11. 16-40 years of age. But you have to be NICE at 40, you cant just be the dude around the way at 40 tryna get put on. lol

  12. @ijusthkdifrentLTL LMAO @ free bootyboys!!! smh LOL KK is krisskross and yes bow rappin bout money hoes and cars is old too. LOL Hell that shit is just old period!!! We know what you do and what you got…find something else to rap about. LOL If LL could stop rappin about his kangols then all these folks can stop rapping bout money hoes and cars. LOL But if that’s all they know, then what else is there for them to rap about? LOL I digress…

  13. @ jonnzie and anita LTL
true dat lol Duh KK Krisskross

  14. KK = KrispyKreme … I’m just sayin’

  15. hahaha lol @mrggfep

  16. I don’t think its age limit at all JD , because some of these rappers are old and some are old but if they can put out good music that’s all that matters

  17. AWhat ya’ll are saying is so true! People dont dislike rappers because of age, he just dont like what you are talking about! Why would i want to hear about all the money and stuff(clothes, cars, etc) you got? Most of the people who listens to this music are not as rich as you, so that is like stunting on them! Some of these rappers lyrics are just repetitive, dumb, or just plain ignorant! Bow Wow goes need to humble himself and grow up, nobody like no one who talks junk and cant back it up (lol) i am not hating on this on him but when was his last big song or album he just aint hot right now!!

  18. LOL @ krispy kreme smh

  19. I won’t say age dont matter because I don’t want to hear somebody 90 rapping lol, but as long as they got something to say and not talking bout the same thing, its all good, see one thing people don’t like is fake people, don’t rap about smoking and killing and u ain’t did none of that. I see bow wow talking bout smoking and girls same thing but he was not rapping about smoking soo I’m thinking maybe something happen in his life that makes him do it, he needs to explain that to the people, tell them the story, we don’t no so A lot of people think he’s fake, he didnt start off writing his own rhymes, seems like he’s tryna find his self, he’s imitating other people, he needs to tell the story on some eminem type shit, I personally like SOME of his new stuff not much though, I brought the from, beware of the dog, leading up to the Like Mike soundtrack, even the one after, And I no this is not about Bow, but since u mentioned his name…. lol But his pen game is better than Soulja boy or w/e but soulja got the concepts he’s staying in his lane, true to his fans. But go down that top ten list and u tell me if u think bow, should be on there, if he meets the criteria I no he prob got more money than half of them. I was gone say gucci talk about the hood and the hood love him, but I don’t no wtf he be talking bout!

Oh and age can’t be a number really because people are really feeling Diggy and I think he’s 16…. by next year he’s gone take over.

  20. JD it has nothing to do wit age. Jay Z still going to be Jay Z no matter how old he gets. Bow wow on the other hand lyrically is just not developed. Proof that there’s nothing to do with age is Drake… They’re the same age but people on Drake because of his lyrics… It has nothing to do with how old you are if people gonna like your music I don’t think it matters how long you been in the game.

  21. Only King Yahshuah can rock the mic and hold the crowd at any age. http://www.myspace.com/yashuaanthesacredteachings. Relevance is the key. 16-24 is hip hop.

  22. I dnt think age has to be a factor in anything as far as hip hop. Man this is music and if you can make music that someone can relate to then make it. Rap has too many stipulations and imaginary guidelines. can we get back to the music PLEASE???? I dnt care if you are 18 or 60 if your music is jamming thats what it is. people need to qiut making music so regional and with a age limit. I dnt care where you from and how old you are if you cooking that heat I fux with Real Spill. Shout out to JD and all the lifers 100!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  23. I haven’t commented in a while but I felt compelled to so here it is, I don’t think age matters at all I just wish some of the content was more meaningful. People stay talking mess about Bow Wow and how he rap about the same things, well so does Jay-Z, he hasn’t been a D-boy in quite some time yet and still he always rapping about baking soda, get out the kitchen with that. I’m not really a rap person unless I can dance to it in the club or get a meaningful message from it; Kanye is my favorite so that should tell you something. Now as for Bow Wow being humble, be honest there are not too many entertainers who are humble, if you are always catered to sometimes it is hard to remain humble. Bow Wow is really young, he has been doing this forever so I think people forget how young he is so he’ll grow into his own. Look at most child stars they don’t do well because they are too young to understand humility and they expect everything to be handed to them and when it isn’t they can’t deal and many times end up strung out.

As for the XXL cover, first of all 50 and Soulja look suspect on that cover, second of all Bow Wow should be on the cover of every magazine just for escaping the perils of most child stars. If you can name me one child star that has remained relevant for 10 plus years other than Bow Wow than I will take all the praise I give him back. And I do mean relevant, I don’t mean you went on a 5 year hiatus and then returned to the game. I don’t know what people want Bow Wow to rap about, these rappers rap about what they know, or what they make up about themselves. Do y’all want him to rap about being a D-boy, a gangster, or what. All he knows is money, money and the cars, cars and the clothes, the hoes… *in my Trey Songz voice* LOL!!! I love Bow Wow and I’m not far from 40 and I will shake my backside to his songs any day, I’d rather listen to him than to somebody talking about selling drugs! As for Soulja Boy does he even rap or does he just say the same line over and over again over a hot beat?? As far as I can tell he can’t even put together a Dr. Seuss rhyme he just says one line over and over again, if that’s rapping let me get a hot beat right quick, LOL!!!

  24. JD, how can you talk about people “hating” on Bow Wow because of his age when he and Drake are the same damn age??? Bow Wow makes songs about NOTHING! Money, hoes, cars, clothes…same shit different toilet on every track….and please for heavens sake tell me who you would remove from that you ten list to put Bow Wow in there??? I know that’s your boy JD, but that’s why you should keep it real with his ass, tell him that lyrically he is lacking…he thinks that he is way better than what he is…good music is good music no matter what age you are

  25. @Nina Jay-z only raps about being a d-boy??? what albums are you listening to? if you can’t see growth from album to album from Jay-Z I don’t know what you are listening to…like it or not, at this point in time Soulja Boy is more relevant in music than Bow Wow…he might not say shit, but he has a niche and he sticks to what his audience wants to hear from him….where is this great relevancy you say Bow Wow has? because the numbers sure doesn’t show it…you are right about most entertainers not being truly humble, but it’s ok to think highly of yourself when you produce the material to back it up…Bow Wow simply is not producing the material to warrant all this respect he wants…

  26. @ijusthkdifrentLTL

No disrespect to you but how do you know Bow Wow doesn’t have stocks and bonds, he doesn’t publicize his finances and nor should any celebrity in my opinion. They could all be broke for all we know, living on a lie, how do we know either way??

This is the mistake we all make, we hear someone say something about themselves or we see them on the blogs or in the media and automatically we think we know who they are and what they really have. There have been soooooo many people claim to be rich and they renting their homes and cars putting up a front, I know regular people who do that mess, so I can imagine celebs do it to. So we can’t assume we know a person based on what we hear them say or what others say about them.

  27. @nina
trust me if he had stocks and bonds this nigga would have been own three or four companies, not just no one little bitty mickey d’s. And he don’t got it cus he to busy blowing his money on stupid shit he don’t know how to invest in the long run. furthermore i don’t draw my assumptions for the media and tabloids i watch the way he act and how he talk thats says enough right there. He doesnt publicize his finance but here he is giving his credit cards away to all dem niggas dats under his nuts sack for them to go do wateva they feel. i.e DION

  28. some people are just silly and need to listen to music for what it it. Something to make you know that it is REAL MUSIC. Music is not always about age but it is about the beats and the words that come out of them. I still listen to RUN DMC. Yeah they old school, but you know what, its all about the music.

  29. Age shouldn’t really matter, as long as you’re putting out good material, because Jay Z would usually be considered too old, but to me he’s the best rapper there is, there are also some young rappers that are good as well, so just because you’re a certain age doesn’t necessarily mean you’re more talented

  30. To me it don’t matter how old u r as long as u gon good it down.N I seen that top 10 wrappers of da 21st century n my main man nelly didn’t make tht list wen he was was the rapper of da decade r some shit like dat. Oh yeah JD if u get dis tell dat nigga nelly he need 2 drop a video fa tht long wit my man Breezy.

  31. @ijusthkdifrentLTL

Ok, I’ll let you have the last word on this one because the point I was trying to make didn’t get across and I won’t pretend to know what someone has or doesn’t have just by the bs that comes out of their mouths because it’s all facade if you ask me. Either way I enjoyed your post, good debate and we could go back and forth all day, love that!

  32. @ nina
y thank I enjoys yours too
and my point about lil bow wow is this: the reason why lil bow wow don’t get respect is because his delivery and punch line is WEAK AND REPETITIVE. Now go and listen to all his record if you will, and see if your hear the same pattern of bars. They may be different words buts its the same thing. His beats thats he use are all the same he borrows his materials and swag from JD, Lil Wayne, and T.I. (And I dare anybody to say different) and he sounds like all of them, for real. He is not original, some of his songs may be, but not him. And this nigga talk big shit like he got countless grammies and awards as of recent years. Seriously, when the last time has this nigga won anything? Is his album number #1? NO Is his song getting played on every radio station? HELL NO Is he the hottest rapper out there? HELL TO THE MOTHERFUCKIN NO, NOT EVEN CLOSE. So what the fuck is this nigga talking bout he deserve respect? Just b/c he sold 3 million records when he 13 whoopy big shit, Thats all he talks about that shit is old, I honestly think that if it wasn’t for the braids and his eyes he would’ve lasted very long, and besides people were writing his raps for him and i think they still do now. Hell at 13 MJ was megastar and a sex symbol and by 20 he was an icon! Music wise his career is over, thats the way it goes your only hot for so long then someone else steps in, lil bow wow I don’t think he can comprehend that. His best bet is to become a full time actor and, and he not even that good of an actor he just got lucky. And I can’t hate on the nigga to much cause he got his money, dats all good. (LightBulbgoes on ) Which brings up another question if this nigga say he don’t ever have to work again b/c “he got it like that” and he know people not feeling him, and his records not selling like they used too. Why the hell is this nigga wasting his time putting out records that aint gon get nothing but bad feedback.
Moreover, and quit brown nosing this nigga don’t nobody want see you shack yo 40 y.o saggy ass to his music thats just gross lol

  33. It dont matter what age you are to me. Good music is good music regardless I love old hip hop and some new school hip hop, but some of this garbage out now is just ridiculous. I went to Meth and Red show down her in Fl and it was amazing. People there were craving the old days when hip hop was about the music, the DJ and the MC not his entourage, clothes, his grillz or whatever else he had on. And can I tell you everyone there had an amazing time and those guys are 40. So I dont think its age at all, its quality. As for Bow wow, I have seen where he has matured in his music and I agree with everyone else who said as he continues to grow he needs to redefine what his music is about if he wants to stand out. The money, cash, hoes era needs to end and usher in a new era of good music that is listener friendly and buyer worthy.
