Damon Dash was running the rap game at one point. As one of the founders of Roc-A-Fella Records, along with Jay Z and Kareem Biggs Burke, Dash was filthy rich, but also brash and arrogant in some people’s opinion.
Fast forward nearly a decade. Jay Z is flourishing while Burke is doing time in prison for his involvement in a drug operation and Dash is reportedly in deep financial trouble.
Super producer Just Blaze knows all three of the former partners well. He spoke recently on what he feels brought Dame crashing down.
“My take on Dame has always been he’s a great guy, with a good heart, whose mouth just got in the way too much,” Blaze says. “And that just comes from my own personal dealings with him. There were times when Dame was great to me. And then there were times when he was an absolute jerk. And I think that it’s a thing where sometimes you rub enough people the wrong way, you lose out on certain opportunities.”
