Quincy Jones
Back On The Block
Qwest Records (1989)
With Back On The Block, Jones brought together the biggest names in jazz, R&B, and hip-hop for a seamless collaboration that yielded several hit singles and awards. The song “The Secret Garden (Sweet Seduction Suite)” is a sensual ballad featuring Barry White, James Ingram, Al B. Sure, and El Debarge. Other standout records include “I’ll Be Good To You” performed by Ray Charles and Chaka Khan; the title track by Big Daddy Kane, Siedah Garrett, Ice-T, Kool Moe Dee, Melle Mel, Caiphus Semenya and Rod Temperton,  and “Tomorrow,” the debut from then teen sensation Tevin Campbell. The album is also remembered for featuring the last recordings from Ella Fitzgerald and Sarah Vaughan.
Inspired Jermaine Dupri: The Back On The Block album for me is one of the best of all albums. 7 Grammys it won. It won Best Rap Duo performance amazing!!!!!!!! Album Of Year, and Quincy got Producer Of The Year. This is the album that really separated him and anybody else who thought they were getting close. Musically, he proved once again he is a musical genius by doing rap, jazz, and R&B all on one album.
