Jermaine Dupri, Bryan Michael Cox define ‘real R&B’ For Sister 2 Sister

It’s not uncommon to hear music lovers complain about the absence of “real R&B” in the industry today, and Jermaine Dupri knows exactly what they mean.

“I think when people say ‘real music’ they’re just talking about music that focuses on instruments whether it’s vocals whether it’s keyboards…” Jermaine told Sister 2 Sister. “I don’t see nobody playing nothing now.”

It’s not just about instrumentation, though. Jermaine’s fellow super producer Bryan Michael Cox said it’s also about the lyrics.

“People rely on the melody heavy. People rely on what feels good and then plug in the story. One thing you’re going to always get when you come in this building is a story,” he said.

Right now, the duo is producing new music with former “Lincoln Heights” star Mishon Ratliff. Jermaine and Bryan plan to deliver the goods to those who’ve been wondering what happened to the “soft subtle mix” of R&B that’s often lacking today.
