Jameis Winston wins Heisman

Florida State quarterback Jameis Winston is close to a month away from playing for the national title, but he already has a prestigious trophy.

At 19 years and 342 days old, Winston became the youngest Heisman Trophy winner when he was named college football’s most outstanding player Saturday night in New York.

He is the second straight freshman to win the Heisman after Texas A&M’s Johnny Manziel last season.

Winston ran away with the ballot, earning 2,205 points. Alabama Crimson Tide quarterback AJ McCarron was second with 704 points.

Winston set freshman records by passing for 3,820 yards and 38 touchdowns while leading No. 1 Florida State into the VIZIO BCS National Championship.

He was the overwhelming favorite to win the award after a sexual assault complaint against him in Tallahassee, Fla., was closed without charges being filed.

In his 13 career games, Winston has thrown for 300 yards seven times and accounted for at least four touchdowns six times. And he did it while playing every snap in just just three of Florida State’s games, thanks to a bevy of blowout wins.

The Alabama native is on pace to break the NCAA record for passer efficiency rating (190.1). He also leads the nation this season in adjusted QBR (90.9) and yards per attempt (10.9).
