Jagged Edge is back with yet another hit single, Hope that’s expected to be released on their upcoming album, Jagged Edge Heartbreak Too. Lets catch up with R&B Sensation Group, Jagged Edge…

Jagged Edge

3 Voices: Welcome Back! Let everybody know what Jagged Edge has been up to for these past few years.

Jagged Edge: We never really went anywhere. When you don’t see us or hear us on the radio we’re always on the road. It’s funny because in black music people say stuff like “Where you been?”, but rock groups go out a tour for years and years at a time and they never really get that question. The touring industry in terms of the urban side is not what it used to be, so sometimes, we’re out every week, even though it’s not an actual tour so it doesn’t get the momentum, the press and the headlines of the actual tour to get exposed…we’re out touring every week.

3 Voices: You all have been in the public eye for quite some time now. Can you share your most memorable experience, whether it being a performance, an award show or etc.?

Jagged Edge: Wingo: My most memorable moment was when we beat out Destiny Child and The Isley Brothers at the Soul Train Awards. We won two awards that year…we thought when we got nominated that we were just working towards being nominated for anything and we won an award over Destiny’s Child and The Isley Brothers. It was a blessing. It was a Soul Train Award and we’ve been working ever since.

Brian: For me, the greatest moment is doing what I love every day, so every day is the greatest moment.

3 Voices: You all recently got together for the 20th anniversary of So So Def. What was that whole experience like?

Jagged Edge: We performed and we did the most songs out of everybody, like 4 or 5 songs. I went out in the audience after we got off stage and we went to watch the rest of the concert and I overheard conversations where people were saying that was the best concert they had ever been to in their life. And I just said thank you. He didn’t say it to me, he just said it in general. And I was just like, “Wow!”

3 Voices: What is it like to reunite with Jermaine Dupri? Are you all working on anything that we should know about?

Jagged Edge: Yeah…we started the recording process a couple of weeks ago and then we literally had to hit the road to promote the single. We’re probably about 10 songs done. We’ll probably record another 20 and then decide from all of that stuff.

3 Voices: You all have been doing it for nearly 20 years. You are one of the most successful R & B acts to do it. How have you all stayed together all of these years? What has kept you going?

Jagged Edge: Respect for what we do and loving our craft. We’re 4 men that love the same thing and we go hard for that! We go hard together from that. Ultimately it’s just us loving what we do and respecting each other. It’s a respect for one another and we all got one common goal, and that’s to win.

3 Voices: Your next album, which is your 8th, will be called J. E. Heartbreak Too. Tell us about the process of making it.

Jagged Edge: The process is still the same. For us it’s always been organic. We don’t have a set process or a set way to do things. A song for us can come about in so many different ways that we have all learned to just be really open to the process. Open to wherever the idea might come from or wherever you get the inspiration in terms of melody or production. Just be open to it and flow with it.

3 Voices: How is it similar to the original, multi-platinum selling J.E. Heartbreak? How is it different?

Jagged Edge: J.E. Heartbreak is all of us! Lol. We’ve written everything you’ve ever heard from Jagged Edge…like literally. We’re hands on. We’re in the studio everyday writing and producing a little bit. Jermaine Dupri and Brian Michael Cox, the original guys who did J.E. Heartbreak are back with us. Ultimately it’s all of us…hands on.

3 Voices: You all recently released a new single, Hope, which was released to iTunes just a few weeks ago. Tell us about the song. What inspired it?

Jagged Edge: Sometimes you want to talk about things that nobody else is talking about. We want to represent for what’s missing. You wanna standup for the ladies who, to me, at the time are being totally left out. I said it on Instagram one day, it seems like it’s more songs out there for the side chick or the stripper than it is for your wife. So we feel like we make the type of music that if you’re a real woman you can feel it, and if you’re a real man then it’s the message that you’re trying to deliver.

3 Voices: Will there be a visual for Hope?

Jagged Edge: The video for Hope should be debuting sometime this week. So just look out for it.

3 Voices: What is next for Jagged Edge? Are there any exclusives you can share?

Jagged Edge: Get ready for Hard Case Records; we have a few artists under the umbrella. We’re just working. Get ready for Jagged Edge’s 9th, 10th, and 11th album. We’re not stopping. We’re big on numbers.

We love our fans. Thank you for supporting us over the years. Support your favorite group. Go out and buy the single, Hope, it’s on iTunes right now. The album J.E. Heartbreak Too comes out late September…September 30th. Support your favorite group…we love ya! We’re going to keep giving you what you love us for. We got you!
