J. Cole Album Could Move to No. 1 on Billboard 200 Next Week

It’s not often that an album climbs to No. 1 on the Billboard 200 chart, but that’s just what might happen next week.

J. Cole’s “Born Sinner,” which debuted at No. 2 a week ago, looks like it should take the throne next Wednesday. Industry sources suggest that “Born Sinner,” which spent a second week in the runner-up slot this week, may sell around 60,000 copies by the end of the tracking week on July 7.

That figure should be enough to fend off the week’s new releases, which include titles by R&B singer Joe and pop/rock band Relient K, as well as the new Hillsong live album “Glorious Ruins.” The biggest of those titles should be Joe’s “Double Back: Evolution of R&B,” with around 25,000.

The new Billboard 200 chart’s top 10 will be revealed on the morning of July 10.

The last album to climb to No. 1 — as opposed to debuting at No. 1 — was Bruno Mars’ “Unorthodox Jukebox” on the chart dated March 16. The set moved to No. 1 in its 12th chart week, after debuting at No. 2 on the Dec. 29, 2012, tally.
