Madonna, Miley Cyrus, Rihanna and Chelsea Handler might want to take note. Instagram has clarified its no nipple policy.
According to CNN, the social networking site posted new guidelines just this week detailing when nipples are acceptable to share on the site.
“We know that there are times when people might want to share nude images that are artistic or creative in nature, but for a variety of reasons, we don’t allow nudity on Instagram. This includes photos, videos, and some digitally-created content that show sexual intercourse, genitals, and close-ups of fully-nude buttocks,” a statement on the site’s community guidelines page notes. “It also includes some photos of female nipples, but photos of post-mastectomy scarring and women actively breastfeeding are allowed. Nudity in photos of paintings and sculptures is OK, too.”
Many female celebrities have voiced their opinions on Instagram’s nipple policy via the #freethenipple campaign. Made famous by Scout Willis, high-profile acts including Cyrus and Rihanna (who had her account suspended in 2014 for posting NSFW photos) have showed their support of the campaign.
Earlier this month, Madonna also posted a censored topless photo to bring attention to the “hypocrisy.”
